I will not be setting any records butplan to finish the course and have funalong the way. I will be joininggrandsons Tyler, Justin and Jacob Starrwho inspire me greatly.

The Bible compares the Christian lifeto running a race (Hebrews 12: l). Thebook of Hebrews was written to a groupof people who were having a roughtime. They were Jewish believers whohad suffered great physical and socialpersecution from Jews and fromRomans. They were torn between theirnew faith in Christ and their old form ofreligion. Words of faith and hope forthem centered in the certainty andsuperiority of Jesus Christ.

The above verse reminds us that “weare surrounded by a great cloud ofwitnesses” - loved ones and friendswho have gone before us in the faith.The message of encouragement is thatothers have endured this race, so canwe.

In the Christian life, Jesus is both theprize as well as our travelingcompanion. We can climb anymountain, endure any hardship andsuffer any loss as long as we rememberwe do not run alone.

Navy Seaman Recruit Alyssa C. Myner,daughter of Jacquelyn E. Olney of Grand Haven, Mich. and Christopher L. Myner, of Plainwell, Mich., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Il. During the eight-week program, Myner completed a variety of training which included class-room study and practical instruction on na-val customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and air-craft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exer-cise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into ac-count what it means to be a Sailor. Myner is a 2008 graduate of Lakeshore Baptist Academy of Grand Haven, Mich.

Albert passedaway Thursday,July 19, 2012 athis home. He wasborn July 11, 1939in Plainwell to Albert J. andJunerose (Livingston) Wasonand was a lifelong resident of

the area. Al served his country in the US AirForce. For 43 years he was employed withPlainwell Paper Co., retiring as a millwright in2000, and had served as President of thePlainwell Paper Co. United Paperworkers UnionLocal No. 1062. He had also served as head ofthe Otsego Township Planning Commission. Inhis leisure time Al enjoyed farming, baseball,traveling, U.S. History and reading westerns. OnSeptember 10, 1960 in Otsego he married hiswife of 51 years, Mary Pittner, who survives. Alsosurviving are his son and two daughters, Randy(Kim) Wason of Kalamazoo, Lisa (Steve) Peet ofPortage and Melissa Chavez of Crivitz, WI; hisgrandchildren, Trevor and Rachel Wason, Emily,Ashley and Daniel Peet, Tristan and Noah Chavezand Ridge Oisten; brothers, Larry and RobertWason, sister, Dian Florian; numerous cousins,nieces and nephews. Farmer of Louisville, KY; a brother, Lewis(Ruth) Barton of Otsego; many nieces, nephews,aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend,Ruby Julia Nicole. He was preceded in death byhis father and by a niece, Tracy Barton. Funeralservices will be held Friday, July 27, 11:00 A.M.at the
