STEWARDSHIP: “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” (John 6:9). The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes is the only miracle which is recorded six times in the Gospel. It carries two important messages. First, no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share. Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let Him.

Diocesan Pro-Life Mass at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich on Saturday, August 1st ~ 8:30 a.m. Please join us and our celebrant Rev. Joseph Whittel at Mass as we pray to end abortion and for healing for those who have had an abortion. Following the Mass, the Rosary will be prayed both at the Cathedral and Planned Parenthood. A brunch in the Cathedral Hall will follow the Rosary this month.
SUMMER IS HERE With the arrival of warmer weather it might be tempting to attend Mass dressed in clothing more appropriate for a picnic or sporting event. Keep in mind that modest church attire is a sign of respect for God and fellow worshippers. Please dress appropriately when attending Mass.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES The RCIA classes for adults who have not received Confirmation will begin in September at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Storrs. Please call St Philip's office: 860-429-2860 if you are interested in attending these classes which will enable you to be Confirmed at Easter.
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: Critics who say the Catholic Church is against universal health care are misinformed. The Catholic Church is founded on the Corporal Works of Mercy and helping others. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has always advocated for health care. The Catholic Church is opposing the health care mandate because it violates the First Amendment, which is supposed to safeguard freedom of religion. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the abortion and contraception mandate by calling President Obama at the White House at 202-456-1111 or U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445. You may clarify that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom at: www.whitehouse.gov/contact.

MASS INTENTION ENVELOPES To make it easy to order a Mass for your beloved dead or for any occasion like an anniversary, birthday, etc., please pick up a Mass Intention envelope in the vestibule at St. Philip's or next to the bulletins on the table at St. Jude’s. You can fill it out and place it in the collection basket. Weekend and Holy Day Masses are $20; weekday Masses are $15.
When you are planning your estate, please consider putting St. Philip or St. Jude in your will. Leaving a donation to your parish
is a wonderful way to be remembered while supporting the ongoing needs of the parish. Also, Memorial Donation forms are available on the parish website, and can be downloaded and printed.
