Bragonier’s latest CDinspired by love of home

When 10-year-old Scott Bragonier received a guitar for Christmas, no one knew he would someday be performing for audiences.

“I played it a little but then, like most 10-year-olds, it ended up in the corner of my room with dust on it,” Scott said.

But this wasn’t the end for him.

“I was exposed to live music while I worked at the 7D Ranch after some famous musicians came through,” Scott said.

“This rekindled my inter-est in the guitar and singing songs. From there, I started working on basic guitar skills

and trying to sing along.”With some outside motiva-

tion, Scott started performing for audiences.

“I went to work for Rimrock Ranch while I was in college when Glenn and Alice Fales owned it,” Scott said.

“Alice heard I played gui-tar and sang a little bit. She promptly made me sing to the guests and that’s where my performing started. I’m very thankful to Alice. She had all the confidence in me that I lacked. She was very persis-tent and persuasive.”

Scott grew up in Cody and graduated from Cody High School. He moved away and came back seven years ago with his family.

Scott’s son Cade Bragionier

is proud of his dad’s accom-plishments.

“I like traveling around with him and being there when he performs,” Cade said. “It’s amazing how much he has progressed.”

Scott likes singing for audi-ences. “I love to perform and I’m always looking for more opportunities,” Scott said. “I love the connection I can make with the listeners. If I’m playing, then I’m happy.”

‘From Where I Came’Scott recently released a CD

in May called “From Where I Came.”

All of Scott’s songs are originals he either wrote or co-wrote.

“When I approach a song, I

write about what I see, what’s been done and the experiences around me,” Scott said.

“What inspires me the most about music is writing and try-ing to craft a song with words and melody that can touch someone in the same way music has touched me. I strive for people to feel emotion through my songs.”

Scott put a lot of time into making his CD.

“He has worked really hard for this,” Cade said. “He did so much of it by himself.”

Scott won’t receive the num-bers for the CDs being sold until the end of the quarter but he said the sales have been “fair.”

The theme of the CD is the Wyoming landscape and the people. The CD didn’t start out that way.

“When I set out to write this CD, I was trying to write a collection of songs about Wyoming,” Scott said. “What happened was I ended up with a collection of songs that I had written because of inspira-tion. I narrowed them down to 12 and they all related to Wyoming and, more specifical-ly, Cody and the area around it.”

All of Scott’s songs have meaning behind them. Some are in remembrance of a loved one, others about the land they live in.

Cade said listening to his dad in person is better.

“Hearing him over a CD isn’t the same as hearing him live,” Cade said. “He’s gotten really good.”

Scott’s goal is to get people to listen to his music.

He said, “I’m trying to get my CD to as many people as I can because for someone to appreciate it they have to hear it.”

Balloon FestThe 19th annual Wild West

Balloon Festival will be Friday-Sunday, Aug. 1-3, at Mentock Park.

The festival begins Friday evening with a “balloon glow,” which organizer and pilot Jack Way describes as spectacular.

“The balloons are anchored to the ground, and the burners make the envelopes glow like a giant light bulb,” Way said. “It’s great event for amateur and professional photogra-phers.”

The balloons take off Saturday at sunrise about 6

a.m. The wind is most calm early, making it the safest time to fly, Way said. Weather permitting, the morning flights will be used for two competi-tions.

The “Hound and Hare” race involves a lead balloonist, the hare, dropping a target with other balloonists, the hounds, following and dropping a bean bag as close as possible to the target. The closest hound wins the competition.

The “Pole Grab” is the most challenging competi-tion. Balloonists try to grab

the banner atop a 35-foot pole placed downwind from the launch site.

The rally is sponsored by area businesses, and Cody people serve as host families. Returning pilots often carry on relationships with a host and stay with the same family every year.

“We couldn’t do this without our home-stays and sponsors,” Way added.

The festival began in 1996 – Cody’s centennial and Buffalo Bill’s 150th birthday – when the city decided to dedicate

each month to a different event.

As for the weekend’s festivi-ties, Way said it’s much like the rally’s relaxed feel.

“Sometimes we end up on the other side of the river,” Way aid. “We’ll go wherever the wind takes us.”

Balloons launch at sunrise Saturday and Sunday morn-ings, weather permitting. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early, if they would like be on a balloon’s chase crew.

Whether you need an extra boost in the morning or you just want to hang out, go to Rawhide Coffee in downtown Cody.

Rawhide makes more than regular coffee.“We can make any drink ice, hot or

blended,” Rawhide worker Jenny McDonald said.

They carry a variety of drinks.“We can make Smoothies, chai, tea,

steamers, Italian sodas, Americanos, hot chocolate, lattes, mochas and granitas,” she said.

One of Rawhide’s specialty drinks is the white mocha.

“A white mocha is milk, double shot of espresso and white chocolate powder,” McDonald said.

Another crowd pleaser is the caramel granita.

“The caramel granita is iced milk and caramel powder,” she said.

A typical drink at Rawhide is a flavored latte.

“We’ve got about 50 different flavors but a lot of people go with the basic vanilla latte,” she said.

Rawhide also carries some different foods.“We’ve got pastries, bagels, muffins,

scones and casserole,” McDonald said.Rawhide sells merchandise according to

the season.“We always have something different for

sale almost every time you come in,” she added.

“I love the regulars,” she said. “I love being able to see the same people almost everyday and really getting to know them. I love seeing the locals come in the summer.”

Festival of Nations Aug. 1-2 in Red Lodge

Supaman will headline the Festival of Nations this year. He performs Saturday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.

Celebrate the cultural diversity of Red Lodge during its annual Festival of Nations on Aug. 1-2.

Ethnic dancing, music, games and food are all part of the event, which was started in 1950 when the different culture groups in Red Lodge decided that they wanted to show off their roots.

Music from around the globe will be featured and for a tasty meal, the Festival of Nations is the place to be.
