CENTREPORT IN THE COMMUNITY

Inland Port Footprint Tours: Over the last several months, CentrePort has been pleased to host bus tours of the inland port’s footprint to showcase the overwhelming amount of development currently underway.

In April, members of the Manitoba Real Estate Association joined CentrePort staff for a tour and a behind the scenes look at Torque Brewing - a brewery and taproom located in CentrePort. In June, CentrePort took students from the University of Manitoba’s James W. Burns Leadership Institute on a footprint tour.

Groupe Touchette

May 30 - Groupe Touchette, the largest Canadian-owned tire distribution company, is building a $20-million distribution centre with CentrePort partner Concord Projects in Brookside Industrial Park Phase III. Expected to be operational in 2020, this facility will enable the company to double their capacity. Read more here.

TechTop Canada Inc.

May 26 - TechTop Canada Inc., a Canadian industrial motors distributor, opened its first-ever Manitoba location in Brookside Business Park. TechTop’s products are distributed by rail, road and air, making CentrePort an ideal location for the company. TechTop was featured in the Winnipeg Free Press here.

June 20 - Connecting to Opportunity, JohnQ’s high-speed internet project has broken ground at CentrePort. The fibre optic initiative is critical in ensuring companies locating at the inland port have access to high-speed, reliable internet services for their operations. Conscious Kindness Day 2019: CentrePort celebrated the United Way Winnipeg’s Conscious Kindness Day by teaming up with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce to collect much needed snack items for West Broadway Youth Outreach.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by our office to donate! Efforts resulted in the collection of 200 juice boxes, 100 freezies, 700 fruit snacks and 1,800 snack bars.

Grow West: CentrePort was pleased to attend the Government of Canada’s recent announcement at Red River College’s Skilled Trades and Technology Centre. The Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, unveiled the next chapter of Grow West: The Western Canada Growth Strategy. Budget 2019 allocated $100 million in new funding over three years for Western Economic Diversification Canada to strengthen programming and advance Grow West.

In appreciation of CentrePort’s partners and key stakeholders who contribute to the ongoing development of North America’s largest inland port, CentrePort hosted its 6th annual invitational golf tournament on July 10 at Bel Acres Golf & Country Club.

As part of CentrePort championing a “live, work, play, learn” approach to development, proceeds raised at the tournament support bursaries and scholarships at Red River College and Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology.

EXPANDING CULINARY RESEARCH – Red River College’s Culinary Research & Innovation program received a $1.75 million grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council’s College and Community Innovation program. The Culinary Research Technology Access Centre will provide culinary-focused food research to food manufacturing and food services businesses. Read more about the announcement here.

INTO THE FIRE – In an effort to make the world a safer place, Bison Fire Protection has launched a new show that pulls life lessons learned from front line professionals into brief tutorial videos. Tune into the episode “Into the Fire: Staying Calm Under Fire” on YouTube to hear how one father saved his family’s life by staying calm and making the right decisions during a home fire. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY – Congratulations to Bison Transport on the celebration of their 50th anniversary. Bison began providing local cartage services to the construction industry in 1969 and has since grown to over 1,700 tractors and 2,900 employees.
