BUMC Youth to Holiday World

July is the month to shop for CLOTHES!

For years, I didn’t even think about including clothes in my shoeboxes. What

child likes to get clothes as a gift, right? WRONG! Some children, as one of the

quotes you’ll read, don’t even have one pair of underwear! They are so exited to

receive a new outfit (shirt and matching shorts or pants), dress, skirt, blouse,

underclothes, socks, flip flops and even shoes. Clothing is actually considered a

WOW ITEM! Trust God to deliver them to the child of the exact size clothes

you buy and remember to remove the tags for them.

Also, school supplies are already going on sale. Last week, I found Rose Art colored pencils and

Crayola crayons at Walmart for .50. School supplies are expensive and of poor quality around the

world, and some children can’t go to school unless they have them, so be sure to include them your

shoeboxes. Summer items like rafts (for beds), sunglasses, water pistols, and other items will start

to go on sale too.

Operation Christmas Child July Item of the Month is CLOTHES!

The BUMC Youth is invited to meet at the church on

Monday, July 9th at 8:00AM to go to Holiday World!

If you are interested in going, please see John (Chico) Poe!

Running Out of Room?

Operation “CHRISTMAS in July”

Starting Wednesday night, July 11, during the month of July, anyone wanting to help make crafts to

put into shoeboxes, can stay after our meal for a time of “fellowship and crafting.” You can bring

anything you are working on (sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, etc.) or Terri will have some

simple crafts that can to be made by men, women and children. Anita Westrup has offered to teach

anyone wanting to learn to crochet at that time as well.

And if there are enough interested, we can also meet another today and time. Just let Terri know.

If you are running out of room for your shoebox items, you may bring them to the church and place

them in the barrel at the end of the hall between the recycling tubs and the food pantry wagon.

We will store them at church until our fall packing parties. Also, see Terri if you have any tubs or

crates and want to help her organize and label the items.

Thank You BUMC!

30 Households from BUMC shopped at Kroger between March and the end of May and

contributed $201.81 to our Youth simply by shopping at our neighborhood store.

This is a great way to support the Bardstown UMC Youth and it doesn’t cost you a thing extra!!

Please sign up through the Kroger website (www.kroger.com/communityrewards)

or call the Kroger Customer Service (502-348-2977) and use Code# 12533

BARDSTOWN BELL P AGE 3

New Bluegrass District Superintendent!

Welcome Rev. Mark Gibbons, our new

Superintendent of the Bluegrass District.

Rev. Gibbons has served as the superintendent of the Owensboro District for

the past six years. He is a 1974 graduate of Ashland's Paul G. Blazer High

School, received a Bachelor of Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1978

and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University

in 1981.

He presently serves on the Conference Vital Congregations Team and the Boards of Higher Education

and Campus Ministries, the Good Samaritan Foundation, the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for

Children and Youth, Methodist Hospital of Henderson, and Kentucky Wesleyan College.

He is married to Cheryl Smith Gibbons who is an elementary music teacher. They are the proud

parents of two daughters: Amanda and Meghan; and grandparents of five grandchildren: Sierra,

Brysen, Aspen, Maxwell, and Nola. Rev. Gibbons follows Rev. Paul Fryman who has served as

superintendent for five years and retired this year at Annual Conference.

The Morrissey’s in Thailand

The Abundant Life Savings Group Program

lifts up families out of poverty and debt.

May Kuntisa is Sherri's assistant serving in the Abundant Life Savings

Group Program. She not only translates curriculum and materials but is

being trained by Sherri so that she will lead this program in the future

(our goal is to always train Thai leaders to do the ministries).

May and her husband Boy have been faithfully doing the program,

saving her money to build up an Emergency Fund equal to 3 months of income as well as paying down

debts. Back in March, May stood up in the morning worship service at her home church, Life Center

UMC of Pattaya, and celebrated that they were able to meet the goal of having a fully funded

Emergency Fund. This was a great encouragement and inspiration to the others in the group and

helped others to become motivated.

Two weeks ago, May stood up at her church again, this time to celebrate their debts are paid and they

finally paid off the last credit card. Part of the celebration that we do in these groups is cancelling the

credit card account and then coming to church on Sunday morning to cut the credit cards up in front of

the church. Sherri receives pictures of people cutting up their credit cards at church and we were

delighted to see May doing this. Below are some pictures. May said the Abundant Life Savings Group

at Life Center UMC was very happy for their success and that the members of the group are seeing

progress in their lives as they move towards Financial Peace that comes from doing finances God's

way.
