Two more Backyard BBQs on Sunday evenings this summer! What a great way to mingle with your church family. Each evening is 5-7 p.m.
Sunday, July 16 Brad & Elizabeth Dixon have opened their backyard to us. They will furnish the grill, beverage, and table service. You bring your meat to grill, a side dish to share and a lawn chair (if you want to sit down ).
Sunday, August 20 Scott & Laurie Cowser will open their backyard to the church family. Same arrangement applies.
Bring your family and enjoy an evening around the BBQ!
Transportation is available, just let Rachael know when you pre-register your kids.
Come, visit ancient Rome with us
As you plan your summer activities and vacation, have you been to Rome? You have an opportunity to step back in time at Rome, exploring the life of the apostle Paul and the underground church during
Participants will walk through a memorable Bible-times marketplace, sing catchy songs, play team-work-building games, dig in to Roman eats, visit Paul while he’s under house arrest, and be remind-ed of God’s Word daily as they hide God’s Word in their mind & heart. They will also get better ac-quainted with a mission BCC supports - Tri-State Family Services. TSFS provides help to women and men through counseling, classes & much much more. Located in Carthage, IL.
Register the kids - 4 years old through entering 5th grade in the fall - at the church or online at www.burnsidechristian.org. Registration forms available in the fellowship hall, in the office or from Rachael.

Storms. We’ve all experienced the rain, thunder, lightening. We’ve all experienced storms in our life. Whether family relationships, vocational, health, friendships, or ____ - you fill in the blank. Even in Mark 4:35-41 a storm occurs. The disciples are in a boat with Jesus who is sleeping. What do you see or hear when you read this passage?
In a recent sermon presented by Chuck Sackett I was encouraged to see this Scripture differently than I had. The disciples were asking, “Don’t you care?” and Jesus asked, “Where’s your faith?” Disciples asked, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him.” Just think, in most storms there is mighty rag-ing of winds & rain, then a gradual diminishing until completely stopped. When Jesus said, “Quiet! Be still!” the storm calmed immediately! There was no gradual to it. It was instant!
What kind of response do we have when we’ve en-countered Jesus? Amazed? Do we go, “WOW! Who is this?” like the disciples did? In our storms are we ready to give up? Just hide out until the storm has passed and praying it passes quickly. Even Paul had times of despair, ready to give up. Do we ever ask Jesus, “Do you care? Where are you?” Who are we focusing on when these questions are asked? We, as humans, are often focused on our issues instead of realizing that Jesus is in the boat and He’s the most important. Yes, Jesus will be with us in our storms and He may ask us “Where is your faith?”
Perhaps you are in a calm right now, no storms are raging or even suggesting there will be one soon. Have you considered Jesus has already calmed the storm in your life?
As Sackett pointed out to us, the reason for this story is Jesus. Not our issues or storms, but Jesus is with us in the storms of life, He will stay with us, He will calm the storm. Do you have faith that He will?
If you would like to hear this sermon in full, it may be found online at http://madisonparkchurch.com/sermon/ The sermon is “Jesus is God” June 25, 2017 in the series “Embracing Jesus-the Gospel of Mark”.
Here are lyrics to the song, “In Control” by Hillsong United. They speak of who is in control in a storm.
ing school year that requires some logistical an-
swers. We desire to see more CSC members
committed to serving on a ministry team next
school year. We are seeking to clearly communi-
cate with students this fall the who, what, where,
when & why of each ministry team so new mem-
bers will more quickly get plugged in. Each year
we wrestle with what mission trip experiences are
needed as our student membership is always
changing. We need God’s guidance to help us se-
lect the experiences He will use to shape students
into better leaders for His name’s sake.” Please
join CSC in these prayers.
“From heaven You can hear I know You’re drawing near as I worship
Held within Your love The wind and waves will come
But I will stay here
I lift my hands to heaven Here my heart surrendered
I tell my soul again You are Lord of all
Though the seas are raging You will speak and tame them
In You I find my rest You are in control
Through valleys I will trust Your Spirit is enough to keep me walking
You guide my ev’ry step Speak life to me again
Lord I need You oh I need You
I will trust in only You No one can add to Your perfection You’re the beginning and the end
More than I can comprehend There is no one like You (no one) (Jesus)
In You I find my rest You are in control.”
Thanks for letting me share this month with you.

ership (2009) in order to meet the needs of to-day’s students. In 2009, they changed their name to Lincoln Christian University. This change re-flected, among other reasons, LCU’s vision of a broad education united under the truth of Jesus Christ and the mission of Church.” (lincolnchristian.edu)

Lincoln Christian University at Lincoln, Illinois
strives to meet the needs of students by designing a Christ centered curriculum that not only prepares them for their chosen profession but also gives them the knowledge and desire to live out their faith in this fallen world. Students come to LCU for a major. They leave on a Mission.
A few facts about LCU: 130 acre campus 14:1 student to faculty ratio Founded in 1944 as Lincoln Bible Institute Average ACT for incoming students: 22 More than 70 percent of undergraduate stu-
dents live on campus Undergrad & Graduate student body total al-
most 1,000 Students receive nearly $10 million in financial
assistance Average class size: 13 Over 325 undergraduates completed more than
10,300 hours of service learning in different ministries during the 2016-2017 school year.
Restoration Week 2016-2017 saw 15 teams, totaling 125 individuals, travel around the coun-try and abroad, doing good work for our Lord.
Why LCU? “You crave a life of meaning. You hope to live each day doing something that matters. Be-ing a person of purpose and finding God’s call re-quires a different view of the world. Let LCU help you prioritize. At LCU we know the meaning you
seek requires far more than a degree. That’s why we go beyond preparing students for a career. We’ll give you the skills to interpret Scripture on your own and foster in you a love for God’s Word that can change your life as well as the lives of those around you. And we’ll show you a new way to see the world, too--one that takes every thought, be it theological, philosophical, political, or eco-nomic, captive for Christ. We’re a different kind of college, but that’s a good thing. We’ll make a better you, so you can make a better world.” (from their website lincolnchristian.edu)
Lincoln Bible Institute was founded in 1944 by Earl C. Hargrove, preaching minister of Lincoln Chris-tian Church. It was originally intended to prepare preachers, teachers, and other Christian workers to serve Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. With Hargrove’s original vision for a Chris-tian Workers’ School, the school quickly became known as a training ground for all Christians--no matter their vocational goals. Store clerks and sec-retaries, mothers and missionaries all had some-thing to learn: how to live out their faith consistently and considerately as leaders in both the Church and the world.
“As the school grew, a graduate school was added in 1952 and within a few years became known as Lincoln Christian College and Seminary….The school has continued developing academic offer-ings like the adult degree completion program (2001), the Doctor of Ministry degree (2007), and online degrees like the MA in Organizational Lead-
