BY CHARLIE DIMPFL, CCM I would like to take this last newsletter as an opportunity to share my appreciation for my years spent at the Country Club of Peoria. First of all, to the membership, thank you for allowing me and my family to be a part of something as special as the CCP community. It has been a long history for me at CCP starting in 2004 when I was first introduced to the Club as an Operations Manager. Since then, I have worn many hats along the way and have had the pleasure of working for some of the most thoughtful, encouraging and caring people. In both exciting and difficult times in my life and career, there was always an outpouring of congratulations or support from everyone. Cards, flowers, handshakes, hugs and any other acknowledgement that was ever needed, the membership was always there. The Club and its members hold a unique place in my heart as you have embraced me and my family so whole- heartedly. Peoria has given me more than I will ever be able to repay including my family, my friends and an incredible professional opportunity. The basis and foundation of what makes up everything good in my life, revolves around and emanates from the Club community. You welcomed us, cared for us and helped us grow into the people that we have become. To the staff, thank you for all of your hard work, understanding and belief in a process to continue to grow the already great legacy of CCP. If it was not for your dedication to the Club and willingness to do whatever it takes, the success of the past, present and future would not be possible. Your mentorship and friendship will always be appreciated. To the Boards and Presidents who have selflessly taken on a leadership role at the Club - thank you for the patience and open-mindedness that was needed to both continue and build the great traditions at CCP. It was a pleasure to have been a part of many strong discussions and the comradery and respect shown will long be remembered. And finally, thank you to all my friends at CCP for allowing me to be a part of your great Club and your lives. I hope to remain in contact and will always be rooting for the continued success of your historic Club! CHARLIE DIMPFL, CCM INSIDE THIS ISSUE JULY 2017 Grand VIEWS MEMBER NEWSLETTER WWW. CCOFPEORIA . The Club and its members hold a unique place in my heart as you have embraced me and my family so whole-heartedly.

Peoria has given me more than I will ever be able to repay including my family, my friends and an incredible professional opportunity. The basis and foundation of what makes up everything good in my life, revolves around and emanates from the Club community. You welcomed us, cared for

us and helped us grow into the people that we have become.

To the staff, thank you for all of your hard work, understanding and belief in a process to continue to grow the already great legacy of CCP. If it was not for your dedication to the Club and willingness to do whatever it takes, the success of the past, present and future would not be possible. CLUB NEWS

TASTY NOTES

BY CHEF STEPHEN HURD As I sit down to write this article, I now have had a chance to look back on my first year at CCP. It has been a great year here in Peoria and I have the membership and many people to thank for that. I would like to personally “thank” Charlie for the job offer and ultimately enticing me to join CCP. I have enjoyed working with Charlie over the past year. One of the many reasons, I enjoy my job here is Charlie’s vision, leadership and friendship. I don’t believe it can be said enough but, “thank you” for everything Charlie. You will be a missed as an individual and as an asset to the Club. Most of all, best wishes and good luck to my new friend and colleague.

Our wine pairing dinners continue to be a success! If you still have not joined us for one of these incredible experiences, please do. Many of you enjoyed our Memorial Day buffet and Father’s Day cookout. It was truly nice to see so many members enjoying their dining experience. I hope to see an even better turnout for the Fourth of July buffet.

I have been pleased to receive such positive comments about the food and service throughout the Club. The culinary team works long and hard to provide the best food and dining experience in Peoria. So, it is always great to hear our hard work is producing “good results”. This summer we will be offering fresh new ideas using local products in our specials to enhance your dining choices with the hopes of getting even more positive feedback from the membership. So, enjoy and let me know what you think. Let’s get cooking!

THANK YOU

CLUB ATHLETICS

BY ANDY MORRIS July is already here! June flew past us and now we are facing the challenges of summer. June gave us some nice weather to warm up with and you can bet July will offer up some real heat and humidity. The “Dog Days of Summer” are upon us.

As July rolls in we enter into the summer stress period. The next 8 weeks or so are the toughest time of the year for cool-season type turf. All of our grass types on the course are cool-season grasses, so the heat and humidity can take a toll. We have done everything we can from an agronomic standpoint to prepare the turf for the stress of summer. A little help from Mother Nature is always appreciated but we never plan on it! We just have to wait and see what the season throws at us. Every year is different and we spend hours every day scouting the course for disease and turfgrass stress. This time of year we never leave the course unattended for long as turf decline can happen rapidly.

If you are on the course, you will likely see our staff hand watering throughout the summer. We hand water greens, tees and fairways in order to provide the turf with some much needed moisture. Hand watering is the most effective manner to provide needed moisture to an area.

The staff makes every effort to stay out of the way of golfers on the course. If you come across a staff member hand watering while you are playing, we appreciate your patience as they move aside.

We will begin a cart path project around the 10th of July. The course will be open and some days it may be necessary to re-route traffic on a given hole if work is being done on that hole. All cart paths on the course will be replaced or resurfaced so this will be a major project impacting the entire course. It is anticipated that the project will be completed in around 4 weeks’ time. Please be patient as we work our way through this project - the final result will be appreciated by all who play the course. We will do everything we can to keep the impact on our golfing membership to a minimum. Check with the Pro Shop staff for any daily cart rules and construction areas. As always, we appreciate your understanding as we work through this major course improvement.

It is also likely that some cart restrictions may be required in July. Mainly, the 90 degree cart rule. This cart rule has nothing to do with the air temperature. When you are asked to use the 90 degree rule please keep the carts in the rough until you are at a 90 degree angle from your ball.

Carts may be driven out to the ball at a 90 degree angle and stopped to take your shot. After the shot proceed directly across the fairway back into the rough. There are times when the temperatures are too high and the turf is under extreme stress. Driving carts on the fairways can damage the turf, cause unsightly brown tracks or even kill the turf. Utilizing the 90 degree rule keeps turf damage to a minimum and keeps already stressed turf from being pushed to the limit. Your assistance when asked to use the 90 degree rule is greatly appreciated. The Pro Shop staff will keep you informed of any daily cart restrictions or rules.

Well now that July is here, so is the summer heat! If you like the hot, humid weather - then now is your time to bask in the sun. Get out and enjoy your course on a nice evening or cool morning. If the heat is not for you don’t worry, we will be talking about the cooler days of fall very soon!

As always, if you have the opportunity to introduce a friend, family member or young person to the game of golf, please do so. It is a great game for all ages!

See you on the course!

FROM THE GOLF SHOP

BY SCOTT BROWNFIELD Happy Summer!! As play on the golf course is ramping up, we would like to give a few gentle reminders regarding on course etiquette and guidelines:

1. Replace all divots – Superintendent Andy Morris would like us to replace what we can of a divot. If the divot does not take, Andy’s team will come by later and fill divots with sand and seed mix.

2. Please make an effort to fix your ball marks. A properly fixed ball mark will heal 15 – 20 days faster than one left damaged.

3. Keep carts on the paths where possible. Carts should never be pulled up to the edges of tees and greens.

4. Please let faster groups play through.

5. Check in with the Golf Shop before starting a round.

6. The Driving Range maximum distance is 170 yards, please stop hitting when players are present on hole #17.

FROM THE TENNIS COURTS

BY SHANE SMITH June was a great month for tennis and July is full of activities for both adults and children – just see the list below! Please sign up for any event two days prior so we can keep track of numbers and be prepared. The courts are also newly repaired and ready for play! We have seen an increase in members using the courts and I would love to see even more people get out to play tennis and take advantage of all of our programming.

This year, CICCA is going to be hosted by the Bloomington Country Club on Saturday, July 8th. Age groups will be: 11’s, 14’s, and 17’s. If your child is interested in playing, please contact me. I know that the date for the tournament is fairly close to the Fourth of July holiday and realize that many members may

be out of town, therefore it would be great if I can find out the numbers we have willing to participate in the tournament. We anticipate great competition among the teams from Bloomington, Champaign, Danville and Decatur.

July is also full of activities for kids as well. Kid’s Night is July 14th when the boys and girls come together to play games and eat pizza. Another favorite event is the Junior Carnival on July 28th where kids have lots of fun playing tennis-related games and earning prizes. Also, July 28th is the Sr. Tennis Campout, where teens ages 12 and up camp out overnight at the tennis courts. They play games, watch a movie, and eat s’mores. The event continues until 9:00am the following day (July 29).

I also encourage the adults to take advantage of Men’s and Ladies Nights. These events are great opportunities for members to come together to play doubles with others and socialize. Stay afterwards for food and beverages. And, if you are looking for a workout, come to Cardio Tennis every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am to 10:00am. We are also offering an additional time slot for Cardio Tennis from 9:30 to 10:30 am for individuals that are unable to arrive by 9:00am. It’s a great way to break a sweat, stay in shape, and work on your tennis game!

JUNIOR TENNIS CARNIVALFRIDAY, JULY 28 5:30pm – 8:00pm

$5.00 per person (plus tax)

This carnival is for kids ages 4 – 11 and includes fun tennis-focused games, water balloons, and other activities at the tennis courts. Kids will enjoy a fun buffet and a special s’mores and rice krispie bar. Parents must stay on site.
