Daniel Tiger's Be My Neighbor Day“Won’t you be my neighbor?” The words and spirit of Mr. Rogers were very much alive at "Daniel Tiger's Be My Neighbor Day" at the south side of Columbus on June 17. And, like good neighbors, children led their families in writing “thank you” notes to community helpers—the firemen down the street, the nurses and doctors at the children’s hospital a couple of blocks away, a librarian and dozen others.

The neighborly activity was part of a celebration organized by WOSU’S Ready To Learn® service with the support of Community Development for All People (CD4AP), a faith-based organization serving the south side. Close to 200 families attended the event, urged for sure by the little ones—two to four year-old tykes that are the biggest fans of Daniel Tiger. The celebration did not disappoint with arts-and-crafts, bounce houses, balloon animals, pizza and ice cream! The biggest thrill of all was the grand appearance of Daniel Tiger to cap the event.

All’s well in the neighborhood!

89.7 FM NPR News can also be heard on our regional network stations on HD Radio as well as streaming online at wosu.org and on WOSU’s mobile app.

Hear portraits of the people, communities and countries that are struggling with warmer temperatures, increased rainfall, rising sea levels, drought, and more.

The question that will shape this series: "How is climate change changing the way people live around the world?"

Hear the stories each Sunday in July and August.

Weekend Edition Sunday airs from 8-10am Sundays (of course) on 89.7 NPR News.

Summer Series on 89.7 NPR News to Spotlight Climate Change

Travel w/ Rick Steves

With the Trump administration’s decision to pull the United States from the Paris climate change agreement, the issue has been top-of-mind this year. It can be a difficult story to tell, even if you leave out the politics. The science is complicated and often abstract. Effects of climate change can be hard to identify. The communities affected many times are far away. This summer, NPR and 89.7 NPR News will travel the world to tell the story of climate change through the eyes of those dealing with it.

In partnership with NPR's International Desk, Weekend Edition Sunday will air a series this summer on the effects of climate change around the world.

All programs are subject to change. 11

If a musical instrument gathers dust in an attic and no one plays it, is it still musical? Musical instruments were meant to be played, so if you have one sitting around unused, help us get it into the hands of an aspiring young musician. If your child has moved beyond his ¾ size violin, or your old band trumpet has been consigned to the basement, let that instrument sing again!

Classical 101 is collecting musical instruments for kids in Columbus school music programs. Music not only enriches lives, research also shows that children who study music perform better academically.

You can donate a new or used instrument – even strings, mouthpieces and reeds are

Every Young Musician Needs an Instrument…needed – to help a young musician who might not otherwise have access to a quality instrument. Drop off instruments at WOSU’s offices in the Fawcett Center the week of July 31-August 4 to get kids ready for a new school year. Learn more at wosu.org/replay.
