Development of the domain market

PARTNERSHIP WITH RNIDS ACCREDITED REGISTRARSThe Advertising Co-financing Programme for RNIDS accredited registrars continued in the second quarter of this year. All ARs who signed an agreement to participate in the programme were notified at the start of the second quarter of the expiry of the initial 100,000 dinars that the Co-financing Fund had made available to them.

The Conference of Accredited Registrars was held on 14th June in the BAH hotel and was attended by 36 representatives of 21 ARs. The main topic at the conference was the new RSreg 2.0 national internet domain name registration system. In additional to procedures and the General Terms and Conditions, the attendees also talked about marketing activities and defining the services which accredited registrars offer their users. Proposed definitions of these services were presented in the form of a survey and those at the Conference discussed amendments and additions to them, after which the final definitions were agreed on. These definitions were then incorporated into the AR chooser tool on the website домен.срб. As part of the implementation of the Action Plan for improving communication with ARs, two quizzes were held for ARs, with practical prizes for the winners, which were well received by those participating in the conference

Educational and promotional campaigns

GOOD EXAMPLES OF INTERNET PRESENCE

The “Good Examples of Internet Presence” competition, organised by RNIDS, ran from 18th April to 30th May. Forty-one companies entered the competition via the address praviprimeri.rs, but only 24 of the applications were considered as 17 of the submissions did not meet the conditions.

The committee that reviewed the submissions comprised: Radojka Nikolić, Jelena Bulatović, Dr Sanja Popović Pantić, Rade Tričković and Mugdim Šehalić. On 9th June, after two rounds of consideration of valid submissions, the committee shortlisted four submissions for the final round: mojazubarka.co.rs (5 votes), alibris.rs (5 votes), lespetits.rs (3 votes) and travelboutique.rs (3 votes). After holding interviews with the finalists, RNIDS will choose the number it needs for presentation during its autumn promotional campaign.

Education programmes

RNIDS AT WEBIZ

RNIDS was a partner of the Webiz Business Education event, which was held from 17th to 19th June in Zlatibor. RNIDS Director Danko Jevtović participated in the module “Web 3.0 - Business Web Trends” and spoke about the importance of building a unique and recognisable online identity.

Predrag Milićević, RNIDS Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer, and Vladimir Cerić, Global Communications Manager at GFI Software, spoke about the importance of Internet domains for the overall identity of companies and organisations on the Internet, as well as why national internet domains have a slight advantage in local Google searches.

Organisation and co-organisation of events

SEEDIG 2016 IN BELGRADE The second regional SEEDIG 2016 (South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance) event was held in Belgrade on 22nd April. RNIDS hosted the event and the local institutional partners were the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and the Directorate for eGovernment at the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government. The event was held with the support of numerous international institutions (Council of Europe, European Commission, IGF, IGFSA, ICANN, ISOC, RIPE, EuroDIG), and local and foreign Internet companies also gave their support (Afilias, Serbian OpenExchage, SBB and Stanco).

Over 50 Internet experts from south-eastern Europe were involved in the organisation of the event. This initiative is a part of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which was established by the United Nations as a model for global dialogue between all Internet governance stakeholders. SEEDIG is also a part of EuroDIG, which in turn is a part of the IGF dialogue on Internet governance initiative at the European level.

The event was titled “Can We SEE internet Governance?”, and the programme was divided into four blocks covering the most important topics relating to Internet governance. About 120 participants were in attendance from countries in the region (Serbia, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Albania and Moldova) as well as a little further afield (Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine and Russia).

The first panel dealt with Internet governance in the region and tried to answer the question of who governs the Internet in our region. The speakers were Andrea Beccalli (ICANN), Chris Buckridge (RIPE NCC), Frederic Donck and Markus Kummer (IGFSA).

The second panel looked at the digital divide and digital literacy in the region. The panellists were Valentin Negoiță (APDETIC, Romania), Megan Richards (European Commission), Vojislav Rodić (RNIDS) and Jan Žorž (ISOC Slovenia).

The third and best-attended panel dealt with a very popular topic in Serbia and the world today – Internet security. The panellists were Axel Pawlik (RIPE NCC), Dezire Milošević (Afilias) and Milan Sekuloski (DCAF). The panel very quickly turned into a lively discussion with numerous questions about this subject area.

The fourth panel looked at the topic of human rights on the Internet and was opened with presentations by Patrick Penninckx (Council of Europe) and Nevena Ružić (Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data, Serbia).
