Wallyball

Wallyball is a faster paced game than compared to vol-leyball. The general concepts of wallyball are very simi-lar to indoor volleyball. The most obvious element that

differs between the sports is the fact that wallyball is played in a racquetball or squash court with a rubber

ball about the same size as a volleyball. Wallyball pro-vides the element of surprise as an ordinary volley can go a whole new direction with spiking the ball off the

walls in many directions. Dates: Tuesdays 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Location: Court 6 Fees: Free to members and day passes

Youth Gymnastic Schedule All gymnastic classes require a membership and a one time class fee of $35.

There is no class fee for Grade 2 & Under memberships

Busy Bees This class is designed for a safe and fun environment that will increase motor skills, develop social interactions, teach basic coordina-tion, flexibility, turn taking and listening skills. The Buys Bees are learning body awareness as they participate in a variety of move-ment activities designed to get their little bodies moving and working in a variety of ways. Basic beam skills will also be learned. Bal-ance is number one on the beam. As children become comfortable on the beam, they will gain more confidence to achieve more chal-lenging skills. Beginner Gymnastics These children will learn the basic coordination skills needed for physical movement through gymnastics. The children are working on their eye and hand coordination skills, as well as their eye and foot coordination. This class will begin work on form and repetition, which will give the children the strong foundation needed to learn more difficult stunts. Students will work on basic beam skills, in-cluding balance, mounting, poses and dismounts as they gain confidence. On the vault, they will learn to run, jump and spring, a much needed skill to conquer the vault. The beginner gymnast is now learning the correct hand placement for approaching the vault, as well as foot placement on the spring board. Students will be broken into two age groups: ages 5-K & 6-8. Back Handspring Must already be working on a back handspring with a good back bend. Cheerleaders welcomed! Advanced Beginners (Ages 6+) This class is designed for children ages 6 & up with some previous gymnastics experience. Students must demonstrate basic skills learned in the beginning level. This class focuses on complex beginning skills while preparing the students to progress to the Interme-diate & Advanced levels. Students will work on basic beam skills including balance, mounting, poses and dismounts as they gain con-fidence. On the vault, students will learn to run, jump and spring, which is a much needed skill to conquer the vault. Advanced Beginners (Ages 9+) This class is designed for ages 9 & up who have never taken gymnastics before. They will learn the basic coordination skills for physi-cal movement through gymnastics. They will work on their hand and eye coordination skills, as well as their eye and foot coordina-tion. This class will begin to work on form and repetition, which will give the children the strong foundation needed to learn more difficult stunts. Students will also work on basic beam skills including balance, mounting, poses and dismounts as they gain confi-dence. On the vault, students will learn to run, jump and spring, which is a much needed skill to conquer the vault. They will also learn the correct hand placement for approaching the vault, as well as foot placement on the spring board. Intermediate & Advanced Our intermediates will begin to master the basic skills and focus on learning new skills. This class is learning that gymnastics requires concentration, self-discipline, increased strength and flexibility. Students must be able to do a front walk over or a back walk over by themselves or have a strong walk over with a spot. Classes will merge skills from the lower levels to form more difficult combinations while continuing to learn higher skills. On the beam, students are working on improving previously learned skills, as well as incorpo-rating new skills on the beam. They are working on balancing both feet as well as both hands. Some intermediates are ready to try walk overs on the beam as well as use the spring board for the mounting beam. On the vault, gymnasts are perfecting their approach and spring to the vault. The intermediates are also working on their follow through without making contact with the vault. This group will work on more challenging approaches to the vault as they gain the confidence needed to pursue more difficult stunts.

It’s no secret childhood obesity is one of our top health concerns in this country. Current-

ly many of our schools have limited or no physical education, and far too many of our chil-

dren spend their spare time in front of video games, televisions, and computers. Studies

suggest physical activity helps to build connections in the brain. Gymnastics is a sport that

requires focus, concentration and understanding of the skill being attempted, bodies

awareness, and a variety of other thinking processes. Gymnast are not just exercising

their bodies-they are exercising their minds! Focus, discipline, determination and prob-

lem solving are all part of the gymnastics experience, and each of these skills are incredi-

bly useful in a classroom setting as well.
