As the reality of quarantine set in and I realized that the Seminary school year would end online I began to wonder about my summer assignment. What would I be able to do in a parish when everything is shut down and human interaction is almost nonexistent? I quickly learned from Fr. Al and Fr. Roth that there are so many ways to still minister to the people of God and plenty of behind the scenes work to be done. I was blown away by the amount of time and effort the priests and staff of the parish put into live streaming the Mass and devotional throughout the week. The church strove to continue to pray for the people and to find ways in this separation to bring the parish together and remain connected.

Upon my arrival to St. Joan of Arc, I was kindly welcomed into the rectory to assist with the diverse behind the scenes work to make live streaming possible and to improve it, as well as to prepare for everyone’s safe return to the sacramental Church. These learning opportunities are not exclusive to a pandemic; I have learned that any time a priest in a parish does something, be it a mass or conference or any parish event, there are so many man hours put in by the priest himself, his staff, and so many volunteers beforehand in order to make everything run smoothly. This is not ugly grunt work, but a beautiful humble ministry that the priests and people of our parishes carry out day after day.

I am very grateful for the welcome I have received from the parish, and very glad to have met those of you I was able to meet. St. Joan of Arc is a beautiful parish and the joy I have seen in your return to the sacraments after quarantine is inspiring. Thank you all and be assured of my continued prayers as I return to St. Charles Seminary this fall.

—Kevin Key, Seminarian

The person with true wisdom, like Solomon, will seek the reign of God and treasure it above all else. It is more precious than gold and silver. Thus one becomes conformed to the image of Christ, the Son.

Moving Day! This past Monday, numerous volunteers pitched in to help begin the transition of the school from West Areba Avenue to Sandhill Road. Starting with preschool and kindergarten, the contents of eight classrooms have been relocated to the ground floor of the new school. Many thanks to all who helped make the move. As you can see below, the teachers

still have a tremendous amount of work to get their rooms ready, in what can be called the “before” photos. We can’t wait to share the “after” pictures in a couple of weeks. There was even a little time to enjoy some pizza in the new cafeteria.

Keep in prayer that Pennsylvania continues on an effective path of managing the uptick in coronavirus cases. The first day of school is now seven weeks away and we look forward to the students returning to an in-person education. We have over 425 signed up for the new year- an increase of 70! With such rapid growth, the unfinished top floor will need to be completed sooner rather than later. To make that happen, we need your financial support now.

Thank you to all our benefactors for their commitment to St. Joan of Arc Parish. We have been blessed with many generous gifts and pledges. We are especially grateful to those who have made large additional donations over and above their original gift. The Centennial Project 2020 is securing our children’s future. Your tax deductible contribution will provide the needed funding to assure its success.

RESPECT LIFE Regarding abortion: Once the truth is denied to human beings, it is pure illusion to try to set them free. Truth and freedom either go together hand in hand or together they perish in misery. The truth is that a nation that kills its own children has no future. From the Pro-life Corner

ROAD TO KINDNESS The summer months are quickly going by us and it is a summer where we are experiencing challenges and opportunities. Let’s look at the bright side and focus on the opportunities that can continue to bring us closer to a kinder community and world. Many people have asked – what can I do to help and to follow God’s Way – “The Road to Kindness” this summer? Have you thought about talking with your family about preparing a summer kindness program? There is still time! You might ask, what can we do that will allow us to keep our social distancing yet still bring us closer to a kinder heart? Today, we encourage you to take some time and list out 5 kindness acts that you can do for the remainder of the summer. Some suggestions come from an article on Rediscovering Families – Parenting from the Heart: “20 uplifting acts of kindness you’ll love to do this summer!” Please read over this article, keeping in mind the social distancing aspects, and you will find at least 5 kindness acts that you can do with your family to become inspired to be kind for the remainder of this summer. May god bless you and keep you safe and continue to bring you down The Road to Kindness!
