“Can Do”
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Philippians 4:13 KJV The weather’s warm and the pace of life is always fast – where’s your power source for the challenges that come up from day to day? The apostle Paul was definitely a “can do” kind of guy. His life was full of challenges and obstacles. Yet instead of becoming bitter or discouraged or disheartened, he kept on faithfully full of hope, love, compassion and joy. What was his secret? He put it succinctly enough in the verse quoted above. I did a little digging in the original Greek text behind this verse and the original words are even more powerful than the English translation. The words, “can do” come from a Greek word that literally means, I am strong,” and the word “strengtheneth” comes from the same Greek root from which we get the word “dynamite.” It means, “to empower.” A fresh and direct translation of this verse might more literally put it – “For all things I am strong in the one who empowers me – Christ!” Or, to put it with a little more flare for the 4th of July,
“I am strong for all things in the one who fires me up like dynamite – Christ!” No matter how you word it, Christ is the key to a victorious Christian life. Jesus warned us, “in this world, you will have trouble, but take courage, I have overcome the world,” (John 16:33). Paul found his courage for life’s challenges in Christ and he gave thanks for life’s joys to Christ. Jesus Christ himself, a relationship with him is the secret to a victorious Christian life. Have you accepted Jesus personally as your savior? He is the One whose love truly “never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8). He is the “ever present help in time of trouble” (Psalm 46:1). He is the friend who “sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). Whatever your challenges today – may Christ be your strength and your song! Pastor Garry

BOOK RECOMMENDATION FOR July. . . Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers Can God's Love Save Anyone? Bestselling author Francine Rivers skillfully retells the biblical love story of Gomer and Hosea in a tale set against the exciting backdrop of the California Gold Rush. The heroine, Angel, is a young woman who was sold into prostitution as a child. Michael Ho-sea is a godly man sent into Angel's life to draw her into the Savior's redeeming love. This remarkable novel has sold over half a million copies and is among the top twenty on the ECPA fiction bestsellers list for four years running.

Enjoy your freedom
Because many Americans have never known other cir-cumstances, it’s easy to take our liberties for granted. The Isra-elites knew firsthand the oppression of slavery. Yet when God finally led them out of Egypt, they had problems adjusting to
their newfound freedom. Fearful and rebellious, the Israelites grumbled against their leaders, Moses and Aaron, saying they would’ve been better off as slaves in Egypt. Our freedom as Christians cost Jesus his life. But we, too, often find it easier to fall back into sinful habits. In Galatians 5:1, Paul offers this encouragement: “For freedom
Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (NRSV). We’re no longer bound by sin and death. That “independence” is worth celebrating every day!
We are well on our way to the next $100,000 in receipts. We have collected $55,621.50. More than half way there! Please keep those receipts coming!

We will be fortunate to have you as future leaders of our church. Thank you Pastor Garry and Bridget for you help, love and support. Please remember, we have Sunday School through the summer and the entire year. And He said to them, ‘”Follow me and I will make you fish-ers of men.” Matthew 4:10 (NASB) GO FISH! Sharon, Robin and Amy P.S. Sunday School Church Picnic (bring a covered dish) will be July 12that 12:00 in the Ministry Center followed by a concert at 1:00 p.m. by Shoutin’ Time. The Sunday School will be serving ice cream sundaes after the concert. Mark your calendars.
LADIES GUILD: The ladies met on June 2nd for an encouraging evening of fellowship. Jane Schlager, Heddi Stricker and Barb Kautz were hostesses. Martha Stricker gave our program on women’s health issues and Barb gave the devotion. We are looking forward to our annual picnic on August 3rd. Make plans now to attend and watch for further details.
MISSIONS: An important ministry is being conducted all summer. Many of our youth attend. I didn't realize the wonderful effects of the ministry until my grand-children attended Camp Rock. It gave me a peace to know that what the family has taught them is being re-inforced. Children listen better to their friends and leaders. Children need Christian icons more than ever. The leaders have seen many children come to Jesus Christ during Camp. As adults, we can encourage our children, grandchildren, friends and neighbor children to attend Camp Rock. Miraculous things can happen. Serving for Christ, Terry Martin
SUNDAY SCHOOL: Bible School, 2009 “Go back stage with Go Fish” We had an awesome week with over 80 kids attending Bible School. Our main goal during the week was to help the Gideon's. The kids were challenged to raise $125 for the Gideon's by Friday and if successful they would get a snow cone from JAX. Mark Harris, who is a Gideon was here to talk to the kids on Monday and hand out Bibles to kids who did not have one. The kids met the goal and far surpassed it! We were able to give the Gideon's a check for $500.00. On Monday, the kids learned they were a V.I.P. to God; so important that He wants all of us to spend eternity with Him. On Tuesday they learned, because we are sinners, we fall short of the glory of God. Wednesday, the lesson learned was that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Thursday, the ultimate questions was asked, “Are you saved?” And on Friday, the kids learned about God’s Great Commission and how to become ‘fishers of men.’ In other words, “GO FISH” and tell others about Jesus and what He did for us. The kids enjoyed craft time, devotions, snacks, games and learning new songs. On Friday, we fed the kids lunch and they each got a JAX Snow Cone. Thank you Mark, Erik and Adam Harris! What a special treat. Thank you to all the wonderful people who donated snacks. We love you and appreciate you! Thank you so much to all our volun-teers who helped teach. Thanks to our youth who helped. What an awesome example you are to our younger kids.

CIRCLE OF PRAISE: The Circle of Praise pie sale to benefit the "Festival of Hope" took in $593.00...included in this amount a Blackberry Pie that sold for $150 at their Auc-tion. A big thanks to Donna Reifschneider for donating the blackberries. We surpassed last year's total. Thanks to the ladies who made and brought their pies for this very worthwhile cause. Be sure to sign up for the Hamburger Fry at the Reifschneider’s on the 4th of July at 6:30 p.m. Joyce Kautz
WOULD YOU HELP OUR PASTORS? If for some unfortunate reason you are
admitted to the hospital, please:
#1) Have someone call the church office at 632-8125 and let us know.
#2) Be sure to tell them at the hospital that your
church affiliation is Zion Evangelical Church. (Your name is supposed to go on a list for the Pastors
to see but many times that does not happen.)
Please understand that the hospital will not call the church or notify us of your hospitalization; therefore
our only way of knowing you’re in the hospital is if we are notified by you or your family.
Our sincerest desire is to be there for you during your hospitalization.
Thanks for your help with this!
