THE VALDEZ CITIZEN RELATIONS

HILTON WORLDWIDEREVEL

At Hilton Worldwide, I Created content across websites for all HW brands. This varied from writing summaries for hotels, dining options and nearby attractions to creating content for landing pages and special offers to highlight unique selling points. I worked with the ecommerce team to implement SEO, A/B test and work within brand strategies and guidelines.

Content Creator

The Valdez is the freelance work that my wife and I do together. We enjoy creating for creatives so many of our clients are musicians, photographers, painters, etc. We do album covers, websites, digital ads, motion graphics, run various social media and create other promotional materials. We have also done a good deal of commercial work for start ups and larger clients.

Revel is an advertising agency in Dallas, TX. I was the lead art director and handled a good amount of the copywriting duties as well. We got an equal amount of digital and print ad work as well as some TV and radio mixed in. For TV and video, I have written scripts as well as designed the graphic elements. I also did several logos and identities while at Revel.

COVER LETTER

I always wonder if potential employers actually read cover letters or it’s more of a, ‘just the way it works’ sort of thing. Anyway if you decide to read it, you’ve probably already looked at the rest of my resume and work, so I’m not going to worry about talking about that anymore.

Instead I’ll tell you some things I’m awful at, making curry for example. I never can get that sweet/savory balance right. Oh also I suck at sitting still and relaxing; I’ve got serious FOMO at all times. Also, I’m absolutely terrible at basketball, football, baseball, pretty much any and all sports. This proved to be difficult growing up in small town, nowhere Texas, where the worth of a young kid was entirely determined by which teams you made. The only team I ever made growing up was the bowling team. There were 16 spots open and exactly 16 people tried out…I was spot 16, 2nd alternate. Seriously, that’s a true story. By the time I got to middle school I knew better than to keep trying at sports. I was already one of the biggest nerds in school anyway, so instead I joined the only other options available in my small school, band and art class.

By the time I got to college, I was doing both in a very collegy kind of way, i.e. playing in bands and making album art and flyers for myself and my friends’ bands. I had never heard of design before, that’s how small the town I grew up in was. But when I realized that the thing I was doing was called graphic design, and that it was a job that companies pay people to do, I started calling myself one. And that’s pretty much where my resume starts.
