A través de los seis números publicados en

estos tres años se observa como se han

originado diversas expresiones gráficas en el

espacio público. Se puede percibir ciertas

tendencias, filosofías en torno al graffiti o al arte

urbano. Por una parte están quienes entienden

el graffiti como una forma de vandalismo, es

decir que el graffiti debe ser ilegal, por otra

parte, están quienes ven el arte urbano como

una manera de expresarse creativamente, lo cual

los lleva a solicitar permisos para poder realizar

libremente y con tiempo su obra.Ambas

posturas son respetables, se destaca el hecho de

que la mayoría de participantes en el arte

urbano o graffiti juarense realizan sus trabajos

de manera autogestionada. Este número no solo

representa el tercer aniversario de un proyecto

de difusión sino que además es una muestra

clara del hacer creativo de personas con la

necesidad de apropiarse de espacios públicos, en

un sentido gráfico, por lo cual dedicamos este

número a tod@s aquell@s que con recursos

propios buscan generar espacios de creación

para realizar tipografías urbanas, ya sean tags,

bombas o elaborados pieces, caracteres, pegar

stickers y carteles.

Since the six published editions on the past

three years, some observations have originated

among diverse graphic expressions on the

public space.We can perceive some

philosophical , tendencies around graffiti or

street art.There are the ones that believe that

graffiti is vandalism and therefore it has to be

il legal. On the other hand, there are the ones

that think street art is a way of expressing

creativity.These street artists ask for

permission so they can have enough time to

freely express themselves on their work. Both

postures are valued moreover the majority of

participants creating street art or graffiti use

resources to create their own work.This issue

represents not only the third anniversary of an

expansion project but to show the creative

work of people that needs to take over public

spaces in a graphic sense.This issue is dedicated

to all artists that use their own resources to

find space to create their urban typographies,

tags, bombs, or elaborated pieces, stickers and

posters.

¿Desde cuándo y por qué se juntaron?

Pues fue yo creo que la necesidad de estarpintando.Al principio fue Talavera y yo,fueron los que iniciamos; también el otrocolectivo que teníamos antes que fue Yutzil ,pero pues como que ya no funcionó tantoy nos queremos meter más al Street, más acal le y pues decidimos ser. Conocíamos alfundador de la revista de Hype que es unarevista de hip hop aquí en Juárez pues yadecidimos platicarlo con él y todo el rolloy pues si nos hicimos un derivado de larevista, pero pues nosotros con nuestroproyecto y ya él con su proyecto aparte.

Why did you start the crew andwhen?

Betone: I think it was the necessity to paint.Talavera and I were the first members, andYutzil crew that was before, but that crewdidn’t work good, and we wanted to bemore street, that was the reason of thecrew.We met Hype magazine’s founder,that it is a hip hop magazine from hereJuarez, so we decided to talk with him.Weworked on the magazine, but we with ourproject and him with his own project.

¿Entonces engloba un poco más así laidea de hip hop como cultura ustedesla parte de grafiti?

Sí, acá por ejemplo lo que es la revistaagarra a los beatmakers, a los este los mc´s,a los b-boys que con nosotros es purografiti.

¿Qué artistas urbanos o grafiterosson importantes para ti?

Internacionales pues me gustan mucho elcrew y el estilo de los MSK de EstadosUnidos, me gusta más Bose, el Revok, elDoes, me gusta más el estilo como quetienen limpio como de ilustración y quere-mos más o menos pegarle ahí a la cal idadque tienen ellos pero pues.

¿Y locales de aquí de Juárez?

Locales… pues fíjate que me gusta elestilo que trae por ejemplo Union, estebueno por la l impieza que manejan sabescómo, la cal idad que manejan, pero yo creoque hay muchos, yo creo que cada vez queveo un mural nuevo es como llenarte de

No pues por ejemplo para mí es muy im-portante es como una forma de expresar-me, una forma de sacar el estrés, las malasenergías que a veces se carga uno y enton-ces plasmarlo ahí en la pared es fundamen-tal.

¿Qué significado tiene OFA?

Pues OFA es un crew muy grande, tienedistintos significados uno de ellos lopodemos acercar al urbanismo que es OnlyFor Art, que en sus siglas en español essolo por arte, esta agrupación ya tienebastante tiempo, tiene desde 1 981 , naciócon los crews en la localidad de Pico Uniónen los Ángeles California.

¿Aquí en Juárez desde cuando se jun-taron?

Desde, me parece durante el 85.

¿Hace cuánto tiempo qué empezastetú con OFA?

Tengo casi veinte años con el crew, empecé

What is the OFA’s meaning?

OFA is a big crew, it has different meaningsone of the meanings we can related tourbanism that it is Only For Art.This crewhas a lot of history, since 1 981 , it was bornin Pico Union location in Los Angeles,California.

When you started here in Juarez?

I think in ´85.

When did you started with OFA?

I have almost twenty years in the crew, Istarted in 1 995, when I was a toy.

How was the graffiti in those days?

Antes había mucha guerra, guerra en elgrafiti, los versus los battles, que es un crewcon otro crew jugar battle o de writer awriter o solistas como le quieras decir.

¿Qué importancia tiene el grafiti parati?

Mucha ya que el grafiti me refugia aexpresarme, a encontrarme a mí mismo ydar a conocer lo que hago, lo que soy, es mivida.

¿Con qué frecuencia pintas?

Cada, si se puede, si se me permite, cadados semanas o incluso cada cuatrosemanas, dependiendo como andeeconómicamente ya que pues esta ondapues no es de a gratis.

What is the importance that graffitihas for you?

A lot, the graffiti helps me to expressmyself, to find myself, and to give knowwhat I do, what I am. It is my life.

How often do you paint?

Whenever I can, every two weeks or evenfour weeks, depends how I am economicalbecause it is not free.

Besides Juarez, had you painted inanother city?

Yes, in Huastepec Morelos, Mexico DF, inAlbuquerque and Los Angeles.

Can you tell me how the beginning ofthe graffiti was?

I t started in… well in my time. In 96 wasbetter, from 95 to 99 was better. It was

Albuquerque y Los Ángeles.

¿Podrías contarme inicio el grafiti enCiudad Juárez?

Inició como en el…, bueno en mi época.Cuando se puso chida es en el 96, del 95 al99 es cuando se puso chida, es cuando tecomento sobre la guerra de grafiti decrews, la batal la por el l iderazgo o porexponer quien traía más estilo, es cuandose notaba más, este a mi parecer inició enel 90 aquí en Juárez, no se vuelvo acomentarte, empezó lo más bueno, a mipunto de vista.

¿Cuáles grafiteros de Ciudad Juárezte han influenciado?

De Ciudad Juárez el Mack, el Mack STK,una crew desaparecida, Risk, ¿quién más?,Sas, ¿quién más? Abion, Zona, Coka,Gramo… ya esos, esos ya estándesaparecidos, ya no los he visto, ya tienemuchos años que ya no están activos.

¿Para ti que es grafiti?

¿Para mí que es grafiti? Es una exposiciónde ideas, con dinámicas, es una experienciamuy agradable para mi persona, para laspersonas que me rodean y que les gusta,les gusta el grafiti bien hecho y ya no es

For me what is graffiti? It is an ideasexposition, with dynamics, it is a goodexperience for me, for the ones in myenvironment and that they like it, that theylike good graffiti, and it is not a vandalismissue, that is the good thing.

Do you have an objective to paint?

Be better, be better in each painting,overcome me in each painting.
