Jubilee Year of Mercy
January 17, 2016- Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mary, whom Catholic tradition names “Mother of
Mercy,” at Cana intercedes with her Son to show mercy
toward the bridal couple: “Son, they have no wine.” But
he does more! Jesus’ transformation of water into wine is
a “sign” (John’s term for “miracle”) that God’s marriage
with the whole human race has begun in Jesus’ person
and ministry, a marriage that will be consummated on the
cross: “It is finished”—we are saved! But before Jesus
acts, Mary instructs the servers to prepare the way for Je-
sus’ miracle of mercy: “Do whatever he tells you.” Dur-
ing this Jubilee Y ear of Mercy, Mother Church, like
Mother Mary, instructs us to share the Spirit’s manifold
gifts—some of which Paul lists in today’s second read-
ing—in generous service to the human family. Thus we
prepare the way for Jesus’ new miracles of mercy, trans-
forming life’s sometimes stagnant water into the refresh-
ing wine of God’s mercy.
Dios.

From the Pastor’s Desk …. The good wine at the wedding feast Every Sunday Mass is a feast for all of us. We come to seek the good wine that Jesus offers us; the good wine
of His Word; the good wine of His love; and the good wine of his Body and Blood that He gives us as food, and that gives joy to our lives. We can say and we ca be sure that God loves us. He comes to us in the Eucharist!
What do we learn about love? Human love is not only the union of spouses, but a communion that unites peo-ple in life and in their ultimate destiny; one that flourishes in the fullness of joy. Jesus proclaims and requires an indis-soluble marriage. A marriage based on true love must be exclusive, total, and unconditional for a lifetime. Our society today needs men and women who know how to defend marital love founded on Christ's principles, yet at the same time, can understand those who are unable to live it. We have created to love and to be loved, as God loves us.
What is the role of Jesus in a Christian family? Christ cannot simply be a guest at our wedding, but He should be the One who should stay with us when all the other guests have left. Christ wants to be the witness of the spouse's love; the guarantor of their happiness; the mediator in their conflicts; the confidant of their problems; the friend who gets them out of trouble when the wine begins to run out; and above all this, the One to give them the joy to live, by convert-ing the wine of human love - at the last minute - into a generous wine: the wine of Christian love. Therefore, Christian marriage can never be the selfishness of a duo, since it represents the infinite love God has for us.
Do we value the place our Blessed Virgin Mary has as the teacher of our life yet? Her short intervention at the wedding highlights her role as Mediator in the Mystery of Redemption. This presence of Mary is rich in details of exquisite femininity and discretion, attentive and effective as a real mother. In this passage, we read Mary's only words in the fourth Gospel: "They have no wine." In the Old Testament, the wine symbolizes the fullness of joy in the love between husband and wife. This must be your perspective - to see the faithfulness of God for all; not to be one who is only worried about themselves and their own profits; but to realize that the "thirst for wine" is there for many peo-ple around us, who have lost the joy of living. This has been the attitude of Mary at Cana, and this should be ours.
Finally, let's not miss an important detail: when we do "what he says" in our lives, everything becomes "better". This is the transforming power of Jesus. We must be the water converted into wine for our fellow man. We our-selves are converted into the miracles of Christ, so that the world may believe. A privileged sign is the faithful living of a Christian marriage. The family that is born of this union, will remain the basis of a perfect society, happier and more hu-man. In a time of crisis like ours, we ask God to bless all our families. Again thank you for your love and your support, may God bless you all and please know that I am going be praying always for you and your loved ones. Fr. Oscar

P. Oscar

Under the sun, there is a time for everything…
There is a nice reading in the old testament that reads that under the
sun there is time for everything; a time to be born and a time to die, a
time to laugh and a time to cry, a time come and a time to leave, a
time to change and a time to grow; and it seems that for me a time of
moving has come now.
