ART & DESIGN EXPERIMENTS

COSA FAI DOMANI? (WHAT ARE YOU DOING TOMORROW?) is part of “Looking Forward” on-going project in collaboration with the grief support group from Fondo Edo Tempia, a cancer foundation in Biella, Italy. This project is an inquiry on grief, its cycle and possible transformations.Participants are invited to write in the space about the things they would like to do the next day or even the things that they look forward to doing further in the future.

FILL IN THE MESSAGE [ILLY CAN DESIGN COMPETITION] When colored by user, entire message appears: BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS THAT CAN-NOT BE CHANGED. Alternate color reveals: BE THE CHANGE

TIME TO BE SILLY [ILLY CAN DESIGN COMPETITION] A collage made out of an old Italian art newspaper found in Cittadellarte’s premises. Just a friendly reminder that there is time to be, well, silly. First image is the visualization of the design with the Illy plastic wrap. Second image reveals the entire design.

CASINO’ PROJECT WITH THE 5 STONES COLLECTIVE [ANNA MORENO, KOSTA TONEV & JOBELLE TAYAWA] The concept of change and how it is perceived in a community was our main curiosity. In this site-specific work, we spread a rumor that an abandoned church in La Pigna, Italy was to be converted to a casino. Banners and posters were put up in the area, as well as a notice for a public referendum that would consider La Pigna citizens’ opinion. These were our instruments to provoke discussion amongst the citizens their idea of change.

CASINO’ PROJECT WITH THE 5 STONES COLLECTIVE [ANNA MORENO, KOSTA TONEV & JOBELLE TAYAWA] In a matter of a day, the “casino” raised the interest not just of the citizens but also of journalists from La Stampa and Il Secolo, as well as San Remo News online. These further elevated the tension and controversy of the “casino”.

On the day of the referendum, we raised the question, “Pensi che qualcosa debba cambiare nella Pigna?” (You think that something must change in La Pigna?) People who attended the referendum were invited to vote “Sì” (Yes) or “No” to the question, a symbolical gesture and response to the project.

CATHARSIS An on-going collage project on the concept of discontinuity, deconstruction and donation. This piece was created as a reaction to my previous work as an art director for fashion magazines. When Typhoon Ketsana ravaged and flooded the Philippines in September 2009, I lost almost all my belongings, making me rethink the relevance of my career. After recovering, I asked for magazine donations and created a collage out of them.

Jobelle Tayawa is a 24-year old, self-taught graphic designer and art director born and based in Marikina City, Philippines. She obtained her Bacherlor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, Communication and Psychology tracks from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2006.

A predilection toward collage art, independent zines and children’s illustration influenced her to pursue a career in publication design after graduation.

Currently, she is experimenting on projects involving design and psychology.
