Mr. Sajjan Jindal was born on December 5, 1959, in Calcutta, India. A Mechanical Engineer from Bangalore University, Mr Jindal began his career in 1984 in Mumbai by independently looking after the O.P. Jindal Group’s steel manufacturing business in western India. Since then he has followed an aggressive strategy that has propelled JSW Steel to one of India’s largest private integrated steel-makers. He has also diversified into power, cement, aluminium, software and infrastructure operations. JSW Group is under the

JSW Steel, the flagship company of the JSW Group, is today an integrated steel manufacturer. JSW Steel is the largest private sector steel manufacturer in terms of installed capacity.

The Group set up its first steel plant in 1982 at Vasind near Mumbai. Soon after, it acquired Piramal Steel Ltd., which operated a mini steel mill at Tarapur in Maharashtra. The Jindals, who had wide experience in the steel industry, renamed it as Jindal Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. (JISCO). In 1994, in order to achieve

the vision of moving up the value chain and building a strong, resilient company, Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Ltd. (JVSL) was setup, with its plant located at Toranagallu in the Bellary-Hospet area of Karnataka, the heart of the high-grade iron ore belt and spread over 3,700 acres of land. It is just 340 kms from Bangalore, and is well connected with both the Goa and Chennai ports. In 2005, JISCO and JVSL merged to form JSW Steel Ltd.

JSW Steel is one of the lowest cost steel producers in the world. It has established a

strong presence in the global value-added steel segment with the acquisition of steel mill in US and a service center in UK. JSW Steel has also formed a joint venture for setting up a steel plant in Georgia. The Company has also tied up with JFE Steel Corp, Japan for manufacturing the high grade automotive steel. JSW Steel has also acquired a controlling stake in Ispat Industries Ltd. With this acquisition JSW Steel has become India’s largest private sector steel producer with a combined capacity of 14.3 MTPA. The Company has also acquired mining assets in Chile, USA and Mozambique.

Vijaynagar works is India’s largest single location steel plant with 10 MTPA capacity. It was the first Greenfield project in India to use Corex technology to produce steel. With the commissioning of Blast Furnace IV with 3.2 MTPA capacity, JSW Steel became the largest private sector steel producer in India. It has also set up of 5MTPA state of the art Hot Strip Mill. The next phase of expansion taking the total production to 12 MTPA at Vijayanagar Works is also under implementation.

It’s eco-friendly approach has also led to the development of Vijayanagar into a modern township. Enveloped by acres of greenery and maintained by JSW, Vijayanagar is prospering by leaps and bounds. GROwING BIGGeR tO BUIlD the DReAMS OF A NAtION.JSW Steel acquired the erstwhile SISCOL and took over the Management in November 2004. Salem Works is the only integrated specialised steel plant in South India and is located at Pottaneri/M. Kalipatti villages and at about 35 kms from Salem in Tamil Nadu.

As part of the JSW group, the plant underwent a dramatic transformation and started making profits from the first year onwards. Today, it has become the first 1 MTPA integrated steel plant in Tamil Nadu. It is the largest single-location special steel facility in India.

The Company is having facilities for production of Pig Iron, Steel, Billet and Rolled Steel products in the long product category. The present capacity is being expanded to one million tones per annum. It has adopted the Sinter plant – Blast

furnace – Energy Optimising Furnace – Ladle Furnace, Vacuum Degassing Continuous Casting Machine – bar and rod mill route with iron ore as the basic input material. It also has plants for generation of power and production of oxygen.

The Company commissioned a Blooming Mill in August 2010. Following the commissioning, Salem Works is the only Indian facility manufacturing the entire range of rolled long products (5.5 mm to 200 mm).

Salem Works is highly environment conscious and the process and technology is designed for reusing and recycling the process waste.

Products of Salem Works have the hallmark of quality and combined with competitive pricing, they are highly preferred in automobile and construction sectors.

It is here that all began. A new chapter was written in the history of Indian Steel Industry when JSW made its foray at Vasind in 1982 and setup a 20 Hi CR mill. JSW then acquired a mini steel mill, which moved on to become JSW Steel Ltd.

Apart from being a leading manufacturer of cold rolled and color coated steel, Tarapur and Vasind works is today India’s biggest producer & largest exporter of galvanized steel. At Vasind Works, the Company has recently launched GALVALUME, a revolutionary product in the steel industry. Its strategic location, with access to the major ports of Mumbai, markets and raw material sources has worked to its advantage.

The total capacity of Vasind and Tarapur Works is 0.9 MTPA of Galvanised, GALVALUME & Colour Coated Cold Rolled products.

As, JSW grew phenomenally, it also steered Tarapur and Vasind towards newer horizon of prosperity. • Vijaynagar Minerals Private Limited, a joint venture between Mysore Minerals Limited (MML), a Govt of Karnataka undertaking and JSW Steel Limited, mines the iron ore from Thimmappangudi Mine. With mineable reserve base of about 30 Million Tons the mine has production capacity of 2.5 Million Tons per annum.

• Mining operations commenced in the Iron ore mine in Chile. Expected to yield an annual output of about 1 million tonnes saleable products. The mine produced o.8 million tons iron ore in FY 2011-12.

• Iron ore mines in Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu in various stages of regulatory clearance.

The Company has planned strategically its power plants to be diverse depending on geographical locations, fuel source and off-take arrangements. Each project is planned to be strategically located either near an available fuel source, load centre or infrastructure facilities. Ensuring fuel security JSW Energy acquired majority stake in South African Coal Mining Holding Limited. (SACMH) - a listed South African Company having 13 Million Tons of coal reserves through acquisition of shares in

Royal Bafokeng Capital (RBC) and Mainsail.

Having commissioned 55 Kms. Double circuit 400 KV transmission line from Jaigad to New Koyna and expecting to extend it to 110 Kms, Jaigad Karad transmission line in FY 2011-12, the Company has successfully established itself in Transmission business in joint venture with Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company limited (MSETCL).

The Company has established entry into Equipment Manufactur ing by commencing construction facility for Supercritical Steam Turbine Generator sets near Ennore, Chennai in joint venture with Toshiba Corporation, Japan.

Kutehr, Himachal Pradesh240 MW Hydroelectric Power PlantJSWEL is implementing a 240 MW (3 x 80 MW), run-of-the-river, hydroelectric power project on the upper reaches of river Ravi in the district of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Company has won the project through a competitive bidding process in July, 2007.

The project involves the construction of a low-sill barrage across Ravi River to divert water through a 15 km long head race tunnel ending in a surge shaft to generate an aggregate 240 MW of power

JSW Green Energy

JSW Green Energy (JSWGEL) is a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited and a Peak Power generator company in the renewable energy sector. JSWGEL engages in the business of engineering, procurement and construction of rooftop integrated grid-interactive solar power systems. The manufacture, design and installation of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV)/Building Applied Photo Voltaic (BAPV) products would be the core of JSWGEL’s revenue model.

JSWGEL envisages to be a leader in the rooftop solar PV market and bio-mass based anaerobic digester space. JSWGEL plans to add substantial capacity by using agro wastes in the rural areas. Municipal solid waste (MSW) would be used to convert biodegradable part in to natural gas and sold at par with LPG (without subsidy). The model employed

JSW Green Energywould be to barter solid waste for LPG with consumers through a card-based measurement mechanism. The gas obtained by the process of bio-gasification has end uses for cooking / thermal application or for mechanical / electrical power generation. Some of the bio-gas generated through anaerobic digestion would also be converted to electricity and fed to the grid at pre-approved tariff for bio-mass generation, as determined by State Electricity Commission.

In the rural segment, JSWGEL plans to follow a hybrid generation model. JSWGEL plans to develop a technology, where in a small generator could use either biomass or sunshine and run for about 16 hours in a day. Such a generator would also be connected to the grid and would supply just the peak power.

JSW Jaigarh PortJSW Jaigarh Port Ltd. is part of JSW Group. JSW Jaigarh Port has inaugurated a Greenfield Port at Jaigarh on 22nd August 2009. This deep water port will meet the coal requirement of JSW Energy (Ratnagiri) Ltd. for its 4x300 MW thermal coal based power project and serve to all multi users in handling multi-cargo commodities like edible oil, molasses, cement, iron ore, fertilizers, completely/ semi knocked down kits for the domestic market. The port is being dredged to handle vessels of 105,000DWT capacity with a draft of 14 m in the first phase. In Phase-II it would be capable for direct berthing of capsize

vessels of 1,80,000 DWT capacity. The Jaigarh Port has the capacity to handle 10 Million tons per annum in phase-I which will be increased to 20 Million tons per annum in the phase-II. The bulk cargo includes import of coal for the power plant and export of bauxite and ash from the power plant. JSW is planning to connect the Road and Railway Network to the national grid for all logistics reasons to support the Jaigarh Port.

South West Port South West Port Ltd (SWPL) is a maritime infrastructure set up of JSW that facilitates import & export through two dedicated bulk cargo berths at Mormugoa Port. With mechanized cargo handling facilities, SWPL is well equipped to handle 7.5 million tones of cargo-traffic & comes with assurance of environment protection. The Port is equipped with fully mechanized PLC controlled operational system. SWPL has also installed an Air Monitoring station as per the Guidelines of Goa State Pollution Control Board. A green belt consisting of more than 2000 nos. of fast growing Acasia variety trees will be planted all along the boundary of the port area in order to increase the oxygen content and restrict any emission escaping from the port area.

JSW Cement, the new diversification foray of JSW Group, is presently having 0.70 million ton per annum (mtpa) grinding facility for producing Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS). JSW Cement, in its second phase of expansion plans, has set up a green field cement plant to expand its capacity to 5.20 mtpa. The fast track project includes PSC and Clinker manufacturing facilities of 4.50 mtpa and 2.20 mtpa respectively at Nandyal in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Vijayanagar Steel plant will produce 3.5 mtpa of slag, which will be sufficient to produce 7 mtpa PSC. JSW Cement will set up cement plants adjacent to all upcoming steel plants of the group, thus making it one of the leading cement producers of the country.

An important milestone was achieved in July 2005 when Jindal South West Holding Ltd. entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for setting up 1.4 mtpa Alumina Refinery and 4.2 mtpa Aluminium Smelter in Andhra Pradesh. Government of Andhra Pradesh would provide all support including supply of Bauxite and the required land.

JSW Aluminium Ltd. was incorporated on July 08, 2005 as a special purpose vehicle to implement this project. The Alumina Refinery and the Aluminium Smelter will come up in phases.

Extending a handA multi-storeyed building collapsed at Bellary and JSW was the first to respond by sending its team to the site. The team rescued three individuals from the debris; the operation lasted a week. An appreciation letter was received from the Government of Karnataka for this initiative.

LivelihoodJSW Foundation provides revolving funds, skill training and other linkage services to empower rural women and reduce gender-based discrimination.

Training Foundation (NTTF), Vijayanagar, to impart vocational training in mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance and computer application. During the year, 30 people were trained in mechanical maintenance and 24 in electrical maintenance. Vocational training was conducted at the O P Jindal Centre for Vocational Training initiated in 2008. OPJC was recently recognised as a Vocational Training provider by the state government and covers a total of 584 people.
