About Joy Children’s Village

HistoryIn June 2011, the Nazareth Joy Children’s Village opened to provide unconditional love and quality support to HIV+/AIDS orphans and vulnerable Kenyan children. The Village operates under the care of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Marry (FIHM) and the Archdiocese of Nairobi.

The VillageThe Joy Children’s Village is designed to create a true family for these abandoned children. The "moms" have been trained to develop an atmosphere of Christian love, support and accountability for 7 to 10 children each. Each family lives in a private apartment, sets goals specific to their family, manages a family budget, and anything else you would assume of a typical American family...even homework around the kitchen table while mom cooks the evening meal. 

This model intentionally avoids some of the pitfalls of an institutional model, creating an environment of true love and the human touch one can only draw from being in a caring home.

Sponsorship Facts

• You can also sponsor a child's entire care for one year for

$2000 via check, credit card or in 12 installments via automatic withdrawal.

• You can sponsor a child by making a monthly donation from $25 per month or more via automatic withdrawal or credit card.

• Your donation covers all of the costs to holistically take care of the child for the year, including housing, food, clothing, medical care and education.

• Your contribution will be combined with those of other sponsors and administered by the mother of that family, under our supervision, to ensure all of the family's needs are taken care of.

• For privacy, you will not be sponsoring a specific child; sensitive information about the child's background will not be made available.

• You will receive newsletters, information and pictures of the JV families but you should not expect to receive regular photos of, or correspondence from, “your” sponsored child or “your’ sponsored family.

• Although we hope to develop long term relationships with our sponsors, you may stop sponsoring a child at any time; please just let us know in writing.

• 100% of child sponsorship donations go to the care of the children.All donations are tax deductible, as the Joy Village operates under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, VA, a 501(c)(3) organization. We will provide you with a record of your contributions shortly after year-end.
