Pecha Kucha Presentation Script Slide 1 : I decided to name my presentation journey path, because every place I visited, there was a story behind. not many people know about the histories or little background of these sites but it is an important part of the reason they are there. Slide 2 : This is the Santa Fe Dam. It’s located at Irwindale next to Azusa to the north. The Santa Fe Dam is on the San Gabriel River. The United States Army Corps of Engineers began the construction of the Santa Fe Dam in 1941 and finished in 1949. Slide 3 : I took a picture of this close-up of some feathers because I thought it looked interesting with the water behind it. It captures the past because it was left behind from a bird that was once in that spot on the site. Slide 4 : The dam is a dry dam which means that its main purpose is for flood control in the event of hard rainfall. The Santa Fe Dam is 92 feet tall and spans for 4 and a half miles long. The actual reservoir can hold about 45,400 acres of water. This image depicts some of the plant life with the water behind which makes it look like a natural lake. Slide 5 : my experience at the Santa fe dam was a calming experience. I went midday when there was not very many people and I could just enjoy the nature that surrounded me. I remember it being a little breezy which also made the experience feel more tranquil and relaxing Slide 6 : This is the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Spreading Grounds. They have a water storage facility that also recharges groundwater. The Rio Hondo Spreading Grounds has 6 miles of both bike and pedestrian pathways. It’s opened all day every day and is usually closed when it rains. Slide 7 : as shown in this photograph as well as the proviso one, there are overhead power lines bow the site. Although the spreading grounds is a pretty big open space, its is located in a residential area. there are homes right across the street and it made me question the safety concerns in the area with these power lines in the way. Slide 8 : in this photograph, as you can see, there is not much to look at at The Rio Hondo Spreading Grounds, it’s pretty barren with not many trees around. its not until you explore the area a little more is when you can see some of the pieces that bring character to the site. Slide 9 : this piece of art is interesting because whoever created it, wanted it to be a hidden treasure. When I arrived at the site I had no idea this artwork was there. it wasn’t until I walked further into the site that I saw it. it was located behind a fence in a concrete rectangular area that had no opening other than the top. I found it interesting that the artist basically trapped themselves in this area to create this artwork. Slide 10 : Grand Park is located in Downtown right in front of the City Hall to the West. It serves as a public park that connects Bunker Hill to the Civic Center. The 12-acre park was designed by

Rios Clamenti Hale Studios. Construction of the park first began in 2010 and finished in 2012. It costed 56 million dollars to make. Slide 11 : Peace on earth by Jacques Lipchitz, its is cut off in the picture, but he sculpture depicts a dove descending to earth bringing the spirit of peace. Many of his works were inspired from his past. the sculpture was dedicated on may 4, 1969 with funds provided by lawrence e. deutsch and lloyd rigler. Slide 12 : originally known as the criminal courts building, the clara shortridge foltz criminal justice center was named after clara s foltz, the first female lawyer on the west coast of the united states, it is the country courthouse in downtown la. it also help the OJ Simpson murder trial. Slide 13 : This is an aerial view of Grand Park. Grand Park is located in Downtown right in front of the City Hall to the West. It serves as a public park that connects Bunker Hill to the Civic Center. The 12-acre park was designed by Rios Clamenti Hale Studios. Construction of the park first began in 2010 and finished in 2012. It costed 56 million dollars to make. Slide 14 : This is the Victoria Gardens. It’s a shopping mall located in Rancho Cucamonga. It’s a 147-acre mall that opened in October 28 of 2004. The Victoria Gardens Cultural Center has the Rancho Cucamonga Public Library and a performing arts center. Slide 15 : I had decided to visit Vicotria gardens because I had never been. this is a central part of the site and the signs can been seen from far away especially in the night when it is lit up. although this photograph was taken during the day it is a different feeling seeing it at night. the lights also creating an aesthetically pleasing and almost enchanted feeling. Slide 16 : this image taken at Victoria gardens photographs many locks on a fence. Similar to a tradition done in Paris, many people add a lock to the fence with their significant other or very close friend or family member, throw away the key symbolizing their love for each other and leaving a piece of themselves behind with the site. Slide 17 : Olvera Street is located in the El Pueblo part of Downtown la which is the oldest part of Los Angeles making it the historical district. Olvera Street is located near Union Station and Chinatown, attracting people passing by both of those places. Slide 18 : This image is of a tiny store the sells different latino descent pieces. I remember visiting olvera street for the first time when I was in 4th grade. this was my first shop and I was amazed and all the different very detailed pieces that were being sold. I could stay in that store forever admiring everything. Slide 19 : On Olvera Street they have many gift shops that sell a lot of Mexican craft. It has actually received controversy for supposedly having a stereotypical “fake” Mexican presence just used to attract tourists and visitors. Slide 20 : it is very unique how different parts of la have completely different cultures and can attract so many people. Olvera street is a very well known part of LA and people from any culture can visit it and enjoy the food and the shops.
