Elaine JW StanovskyResident Bishop
The Greater Northwest Area
Bishop Elaine JW Stanovsky was assigned as the Resident Bishop of the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area (encompassing the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho, and Pacific Northwest Annual Conferences) effective September 1, 2016.
Elaine was elected to the episcopacy by the Western Jurisdiction in 2008 and served the Mountain Sky Area, comprising the Yellow-stone and Rocky Mountain Annual Confer-ences for eight years prior to assignment to the Greater Northwest Area.
Born in Vancouver, WA, she earned her BA degree summa cum laude from the Univer-sity of Puget Sound and her M.Div. degree from Harvard Divinity School. Stanovsky was ordained deacon and elder in The Pacific Northwest Annual Conference, where she
served pastorates at Kennydale and Crown Hill United Methodist churches in the Seattle area. From 1995 to 2008 she served in several District Super-intendent positions and as Director of Connectional Ministries for the Pacific Northwest Conference. She has served as a member of the General Council on Ministries, the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreli-gious Concerns and the General Board of Education and Ministry, as well as the Plan of Organization and Rules Committee of the General Conference. From 2012 - 2016 she served as the vice chair of the General Board of Dis-cipleship.
Elaine maintains strong ecumenical and interfaith commitments, including the Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches, the Washington Associa-tion of Churches, the Seattle Holocaust Conference, the Consultation on Church Union and the World Council of Churches. She traveled to Russia twice with the Seattle-St. Petersburg Sister Churches Program. In 2009 she represented The United Methodist Church on an interfaith peace mission to the Middle East with the National Interfaith Leadership Initiative.

Due to the Covid-19 pan-demic, the commissioning and ordination service, with its laying on of hands, was postponed until we can gather again.
