The Pirbright Institute is a world leading centre of excellence inresearch and surveillance of animal viruses and zoonotic diseases.First established 100 years ago, as a cattle testing station to combatTuberculosis, it now plays a vital role in the investigation andcontrol of animal diseases with serious economic and public healthimplications. As the only specialist animal pathogen facility in theUnited Kingdom (UK), its work is critical both nationally andinternationally. With the importance of its work and specialistexpertise growing daily, the Institute is undergoing a majorredevelopment of its two main research sites. Having benefitted inthe past from a long standing relationship with Panasonic, theInstitute turned to us to help equip a new high containmentlaboratory built at its Main Campus in Surrey. With the purchase of30 Panasonic MDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool -86ºC freezers, theInstitute has already seen improvements in sample security, workflow and resource efficiency within its new high containmentfacility.

The Pirbright Institute forms part of theUK Government’s Biotechnology andBiological Sciences Research Council(BBSRC). It carries out essential researchinto infectious diseases that pose asignificant threat to agriculture and/orpublic health. This research helpsidentify disease control and eradicationstrategies, new diagnostic tests andtreatments. It carries out surveillanceactivities on general animal health anddisease movement in the UK and alsoprovides National and InternationalReference Laboratories for ten exoticviral diseases of livestock.
With significant financial investmentfrom the BBSRC, a major phasedredevelopment of both of its researchsites at Pirbright in Surrey and Comptonin Berkshire is underway. Thetransformation will make it the mostadvanced institute in the world forfundamental and applied research onsome of the world’s most devastatingviruses of farmed animals. A state-of-the-art, high containment (Level 4)laboratory complex at the PirbrightMain Campus in Surrey has just been
completed as the first part of theredevelopment. Equipment for thelaboratory was sourced by its ResearchServices Group, led by Miriam Windsor,in consultation with the scientific staff.
“Our new high containment lab enables150 scientists and support staff toundertake research on highlycontagious viruses including Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Swine Fever and highlypathogenic Avian Influenza viruses,”said Miriam. “Equipment security andreliability are our top priorities. Dealingwith pathogenic biological materialmeans we never compromise on safety.Whilst the decision making process wassubject to tender, we chose Panasonicequipment on the basis of the uniquecapabilities of the Panasonic MDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool -86ºCfreezers and the reliability andlongevity of our previous Panasonicequipment.”

valuable biological samples securely. Twoindependent refrigeration systems provide a reliable -86°C ultra-low temperature storage environment.Should an unexpected failure occur in one coolingcircuit, the other maintains the freezer in the -70°Crange until service can be arranged.
“We were particularly impressed with Panasonic’s DualCooling System and it was the biggest factor in ourpurchasing decision,” added Miriam. “It is imperativethat our samples are safely stored. We hold the worldreference collections of some biological materials. Wewould have an extremely limited amount of time torelocate our samples if a freezer failed. That meansjust hours - even at night. In addition, working withinthe highest security levels (Levels 4 and 5), meansthat there is a long, drawn-out process to rectify thiskind of situation. With the reassurance provided byDual Cooling, we know that if one compressor did fail,we would have more time to take appropriate action.Although so far, we’ve had no problems whatsoever. No other manufacturer offers this kind of advancedsystem assurance.”
Arun Parmar, Panasonic’s UK Sales Manager, explainedhow evolving customer needs have drivendevelopment of Panasonic’s Dual Cooling System.
“Many of our customers’ samples are extremelyvaluable, either scientifically, commercially orhistorically, and some are even irreplaceable. Forexample, they may be from a critical clinical trial, represent many years of scientific research, or theycould be pathogenic in nature, as in the case of ThePirbright Institute.” he said. “It is essential that weensure our freezers provide a safe environment forthese samples. Reliability is critical. In addition, theprocessing of these samples has become moreexpensive. If a freezer goes down, the implicationsare becoming much more significant. AlthoughPanasonic products are well known for reliability, ourDual Cooling System was developed to make sureextra capacity is available to cover any eventuality.”
Long term visionLong term product reliability was another key factorin The Pirbirght Institute’s choice.
“We have a long standing relationship with Panasonic and have used their products withabsolutely no problems for many, many years,” said Miriam. “Bycontrast, some of the products madeby other manufacturers have failedwhilst still under warranty! Even our‘ancient’ Sanyo freezers have neverbroken down. The long termperformance of Panasonic’s productswas another important decidingfactor for us.”
As well as ensuring that its productsdeliver long term performance,Panasonic strives to build long term
business relationships with the aim to grow anddevelop alongside its customers.
“Our customers evolve and their needs change asscience and technology advance. Panasonic prioritisesbuilding long-lasting, two-way relationships with itscustomers. We believe that providing a strongknowledge base and continuity is the only way toprovide effective solutions that meet customer needs. And continual dialogue with our customers forms thebasis for advancing our technology and product line-up,” remarked Arun. “As a company, we have enjoyeda good relationship with various departments of ThePirbirght Institute for many years. We have a clearunderstanding of their needs.”
Delivering performance in a dynamicenvironmentThe Pirbright Institute is a highly dynamic workenvironment. Samples brought into the Institute canarrive at any time of the day or night and fromanywhere in the world. The number and volume of
samples requiring freezingcan vary widely at any giventime. The energy-savingcapacity of the PanasonicMDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool-86ºC freezers is veryeffective in this instance. TheDual Cooling System’s ECOmode is an industry first. Thetwo independent refrigerationsystems can run inoverlapping cycles tominimise energyconsumption, whilst

maintaining the highest levels of performance. The facility is effectively staffed 24-hours a day. Inaddition, the staff present range in a variety ofspecialisms and work patterns. Security was a specificissue for the Institute, due to its workflows and thevolumes and pathogenic nature of samples.
Smooth installation One important challenge that the Instituteexperienced in equipping the new high containmentlaboratory was connected to the removal of oldfreezers. This proved less simple than it might sound.Old freezers had to be decommissioned, requiring fulldecontamination before removal. Only one old freezercould be decommissioned at a time, which meant thatthe new Panasonic MDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool -86ºC freezers could only be installed andcommissioned gradually. Panasonic arranged andmanaged the entire process on behalf of the Institute.
“Panasonic’s flexibility and personal service ensured asmooth operation,” added Miriam.
Significant savingsNow installed and operational, the Institute’s 30 MDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool -86ºC freezers arealready bringing significant results.
“The Panasonic Dual Cooling freezers have savedspace. They are taller and have a bigger internalcapacity that enables us to fit more samples in,” saidMiriam. “We are also already seeing savings in energy
use and we have not had any emergency call-outs.Overall, these benefits save substantial operationalcosts. Panasonic products really seem to be designedto directly solve problems that our scientistsencounter.”
MDF-U700VX-PE VIP Dual Cool -86ºC freezers featurePanasonic’s patented VIP technology - a revolutionaryvacuum insulation cabinet construction that reduceswall thickness by approximately one half andachieves up to 30% more storage capacity thanconventionally-insulated freezers, without increasingits footprint.
Strong service and supportPreventative maintenance of Panasonic equipmentthrough a service agreement is an increasinglypopular option. The Institute is in the process ofsetting up a service contract with Panasonic forregular maintenance of its Panasonic Dual Coolfreezers and other Panasonic products.
“Alongside a solid knowledge base and continuity, long term customer support through effective serviceprovision is an increasingly important element in oursuccess,” said Arun.
Looking aheadThe Institute has now begun its second phase ofredevelopment, which will include new containmentLevel 2 laboratories. Due for completion in 2016,these laboratories will accommodate 90 scientistsworking on viruses that do not require highcontainment. A new Biological Resources Facility forin-vivo work at various levels of containment is alsoplanned for completion in 2018. Panasonic looksforward to the opportunity to support The PirbrightInstitute with its future developments.

Panasonic Dual Cool Freezers The industry’s safest ultra-low
Ultimate security is critical for extremely valuable samples, such as those in the
pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector, research institutes or blood and tissue banks.
Freezer failure requires swift, effective action to transfer precious samples to a safe,
ultra-low temperature environment – often within a matter of hours, even if a failure
occurs at night. Any failure, therefore, significantly increases the risk of losing a unique,
irreplaceable or potentially life-saving collection of samples. This could halt promising
research, delay medical treatments or simply cause substantial financial losses, as well as
an administrative nightmare. Panasonic developed Dual Cooling technology specifically
to greatly reduce this risk.
Our advanced Dual Cool freezersprovide an unparalleled level of safetyand added peace of mind through theuse of two independent refrigerationsystems that reliably maintain anultra-low temperature environment, even if an unexpected failure shouldoccur in one cooling circuit.
Panasonic developed Dual Coolingtechnology more than five years ago.The world’s first Dual Cool freezer –Panasonic’s MDF-U500VX – waslaunched in 2010. Following itssuccess, the larger volume MDF-U700VX VIP Dual Cool -86ºCFreezer was first introduced in 2011.Since then, customers with samplesthat are valuable, irreplaceable, potentially life-saving or havepathogenic implications, such asthose stored at The Pirbright Institute, have benefitted from the addedassurance, capacity and advancedfeatures of Dual Cool freezers.

Unparalleled performance Dual Cooling technology differssignificantly from conventionalcascade refrigeration technology infundamental design and operation. In Dual Cool systems, twoindependent refrigeration systemsprovide a reliable -86ºC ultra-lowtemperature environment. Shouldan unexpected failure occur in onecooling circuit, the other canmaintain the freezer in the -70ºCrange until service can be arranged. This level of ultra-low temperatureback-up cannot be achieved byconventional cascade systems. The unique functionality of DualCooling is achieved through theuse of two, completelyindependent, auto-cascade systems– the compressors, evaporators and
cooling fans of the two systemsoperate separately from each other. Two efficient evaporator circuitssurround the interior chamber in astrategically-designed arrangementto ensure the highest levels oftemperature uniformity with eitherone or both of the refrigerationsystems functioning.
The accurate ultra-lowtemperatures within Dual Coolfreezers are managed andmonitored by an integratedmicroprocessor controller, complete with a comprehensivealarm system and diagnosticfunctions. Freezer status andcontrol is accessible via the LCDinformation centre, which providesa clear overview of freezerconditions and straightforwardoperation for changing of settingsand parameters. In the unlikelyevent of a problem occurring, clearmessages display the issue, so thatoperators can contact their localPanasonic Service Team and explainprecisely what has happened. Thisenables our Service Technicians to
either guide the user through howto proceed, or identify when anengineer might need to visit andindicate which repair componentsmight be required.

Relevant applications
Important questions to considerwith conventional freezers
What measures do I have in place if myfreezer fails?
Do I have all of the necessary alarms andremote monitoring systems in place toalert me if my freezer fails outside ofworking hours?
How quickly can someone get to thefreezer to move samples if the freezerfails overnight, on the weekend or during theholidays?
Do I have a spare freezer with enoughcapacity to transfer all of my samples intoif my freezer fails? Will this sparefreezer definitely be empty and ready touse at any time?
What would be the consequences if mysamples were lost or no longer viable dueto a freezer failure?

processes to reduce compressortemperature, extending compressorlife and minimising heat output. The freezers feature a vacuum-release port, which creates smoothdoor opening in environmentswhere regular access is requiredensuring there is no need to putexcessive pressure on the door andhandle of the freezer.
Minimal footprintPanasonic’s patented VIP PLUStechnology has resulted in arevolutionary vacuum insulationcabinet construction that reduceswall thickness by approximatelyone half and achieves up to 30%more storage capacity in Dual Coolfreezers than in conventionally-
insulated freezers of equal size. Aswell as allowing a smallerinstallation space in the laboratory,VIP PLUS contributes to the overallenergy efficiency of the freezers
due to the low thermalconductivity of the insulation.
Dual Cool freezers can be set toNormal or ECO mode operation, depending on the requirementsof the user. A unique, intelligentECO mode overlaps refrigeration
system cycles to significantlyreduce energy consumption,
whilst maintaining optimuminterior uniformity from top-to-bottom and front-to-back for theprotection of high valuematerials. The microprocessorcontroller constantly monitorsthe load status of the freezer tooptimise the operation of thetwo compressors and minimiseenergy use, whilst protecting
valuable samples. ECO mode isrecommended for 90-95% ofapplications, whilst normal mode
maintains the most repeatable, cycling wave form for the strictestof GMP applications.
Unsurpassed protectionFor complete protection ofsamples, many customers opt for acombination of Dual Cool freezerswith optional Liquid Nitrogen orLiquid CO2 back-up system, in caseof a power failure. This offerscomplete and unsurpassedprotection for samples under anycircumstances. Multiple accessports within the Dual Cool freezerspermit insertion of independentprobes for temperature monitoring, instrumentation or back-upinjectors.
Panasonic’s MDF-U700VX Dual Cool -86ºC Freezer is certified as aClass IIa Medical Device accordingto the European Union (EU) MedicalDevice Directives 93/42/EEC &2007/47/EC.
With performance and reliabilitythat is second to none, PanasonicVIP Dual Cool freezers have beenwelcomed by a number ofprestigious research sites, such asThe Pirbright Institute, as well aspharmaceutical and biotechcompanies, leading universitiesand across the life science market. When sample security and peace ofmind are of paramount importance, put your trust in Panasonic VIPDual Cool ultra-low temperaturefreezers.

Panasonic developed the MCO-170AIC CO2 incubatorseries in response to customer requests. The startingpoint for Panasonic’s Design Engineers was to developan incubator with an interior that was much easier toclean³, but the resultant product takes ease-of-use to anew dimension. The MCO-170AIC CO2 incubators, which replace the Panasonic’s MCO-19AIC CO2incubator series, provide exceptional productivity andperformance. First introduced in Europe in May 2014,the MCO-170AIC CO2 incubators include three modelsthat share core technology and specifications, withvarious special features as required. A full range ofaccessories is also already available for the incubatorseries.
“Panasonic’s incubators are well known within theglobal scientific community for delivering exceptionalperformance, the highest levels of precision, securityand long-term reliability, and the new MCO-170AICCO2 incubator series does not deviate from thisincredibly high standard,” said Jacqueline van derZijden-Anusic, Panasonic’s Product Manager forEurope. “However, laboratory scientists arediscovering the significant additional advantagesoffered by its greatly enhanced ease-of-use and theopportunities it provides to improve their workefficiency.”
Extra space Key to the superiority of the MCO-170AIC CO2incubators are their simple design and advancedintegrated construction. With just five components inthe interior chamber, contamination risks are greatlyreduced. The MCO-170AIC CO2 incubator series has aninternal capacity of 165 litres. Additional space forwider shelves has been created by fully-integratedshelf supports that hold the shelves securely in place.Overall, the series provides capacity for up to 25%more culture vessels2. The integrated shelf supportshave fully-rounded, easy-to-clean corners, which not

minimise the effect of temperature and humiditychanges during- and after door-opening, providingoutstanding CO2 control and fast recovery. The pump-less CO2 sensors have no moving parts, which reducesvibrations and the risk of breakdown. In addition, theseries features improved insulation performance, which minimises the impact of ambient temperatures, ensures fast recovery after door opening and reducesrunning costs2.
Optimum protectionInside the MCO-170AIC CO2 incubators, a number ofadvanced systems provide continuous backgroundcontamination control to ensure protection forcultures. The inCu saFe® copper-enriched stainlesssteel interior protects cell cultures by eliminatingsurface contamination sources and mitigating theimpact of airborne contaminants. InCu saFe®leverages the benefits of copper (resistance) andstainless steel (resistance to corrosion and durability).
Incorporating a longer-life, ozone-free, SafeCell® UVlamp, continued contamination control of chamber airand water in the water pan is possible with theMCO-170AICUV-PE model. Laboratory scientists havewelcomed the significantly extended time betweencleaning that can be achieved with the SafeCell® UVlamp. With the MCO-170AICUVH-PE model, rapidsterilisation can be achieved with Panasonic’s H2O2vapour sterilisation cycle, which reduces downtime toless than three hours for complete, validatabledecontamination. All these features not only preventloss of valuable or irreplaceable cell cultures, butenhance productivity measurably. In addition, thenew, easy-to-clean incubator interior saves valuabletime in cleaning and reduces the risk ofcontamination.
Added securityAlongside optimal culture protection, the MCO-170AICCO2 incubator series includes opportunities for addedsecurity with an electric door lock (password-controlled), featured as standard in the

Employing 160 people, including some of the world’sleading scientific experts in bioinformatics, cytometry, histology, high-end microscopy, micro-array analysis and next generation DNA sequencing, the IMB is housed in a state-of-the-art laboratorycomplex, equipped with cutting-edge technologies. With top performance, sustainability and reducedoperational costs amongst its priorities, the IMB choseto equip its core facilities with Panasonic’s ultra-lowtemperature -86ºC and -150ºC freezers, both withwater-cooled condensers.
The IMB’s research involves a wide variety of differenttypes of biological materials, including human cell
lines, tissue samples andhuman protein clones. Allthese need to be stored atultra-low temperatures, before nucleic acids andproteins are extracted forfurther research. With suchcrucial medical and researchapplications, the IMB requiredfreezers that offered thehighest levels of performanceand reliability to securely storethese valuable, oftenirreplaceable samples. Thefacilities of the IMB werespecifically-designed to minimiseenergy consumption and saveresources. With this in mind, wherever possible, equipment suchas freezers, centrifuges, lasersystems and sterile work benches, arewater-cooled, rather than relying ontraditional air-cooling, therefore, reducingcosts and enhancing efficiency. Equipmentuse is optimised further by sharing resourcesamongst multiple users from different researchgroups.
The IMB selected 25 Panasonic MDF-U74V -86ºC ultra-low temperature freezers and four PanasonicMDF-C2156VAN -150ºC Cryogenic freezers. Allfreezers were equipped with a water-cooled condenseroption and utilise the IBM’s central water-cooling

Panasonic water-cooled ultra-low temperature freezers bring significant savings to the Institute of Molecular Biology
The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a centre of excellence in life
sciences located in Mainz, Germany. It carries out academic research into
developmental biology, epigenetics and DNA-repair towards deepening our
understanding of how we develop, adapt to our environment, age and develop
diseases, such as cancer. Its work is acknowledged globally.

system. The 728-litre, space-saving, -86ºC ultra-low temperature
freezers with improved energyefficiency are used to hold acollection of more than25,000 different humanprotein-coding clones, whilst the large capacity(231 litres) -150ºCCryogenic freezers store alarge number of human celllines, tumour cell lines andtissue samples.
“What we really love about thePanasonic freezers is that they
provide a very stable, constantenvironment with no temperature
fluctuation,” said Dr. Korn, formerDirector of Core Facilities and
Technology at the IMB1. “The insulatedinner doors reduce temperature
change when the freezer is openedand there is enough space for
large boxes. A wide choice ofshelving arrangementsprovides the flexibility toaccommodate the storageneeds of our differentresearch groups. Thefreezers are very easy tooperate and we like thefact that the main powerswitch is on the side. This means there is nodanger of a unit beingturned off accidentally –a recognised hazard ifthis switch is placed onthe front panel.”
Advanced performanceand reliability
Panasonic’s VIP insulationsignificantly reduces the
overall footprint and maximisesthe energy efficiency of the
freezers compared to freezers withconventional insulation, whilst
providing excellent temperatureuniformity.
Panasonic’s MDF-C2156VAN -150ºC freezers feature aspecially-designed cascade refrigeration system withCool Safe® compressors. These application-specificcompressors employ innovative refrigerant feedbackprocesses to rapidly reduce compressor temperature, minimise heat output and extend compressor lifetime,
thereby increasing the durability of the freezers.Temperatures within the freezers are extremelyuniform.
Seamless integration into an energy-savingsystemMany of Panasonic’s ultra-low temperature freezersfeature an advanced new capillary tube heatexchanger, which significantly increases overallefficiency. By optimising the available heat exchangeareas, system reliability is also increased and energyconsumption is cut. In addition, some models can besupplied with an optional water-cooled condenser thatenables laboratories with a chilled re-circulating watersystem, like the IMB, to reduce their requirement forair conditioning within the freezer facility, re-use heatenergy elsewhere and achieve even greater savings.
The process of achieving ultra-low temperaturesrequires a lot of heat exchange at various stages ofrefrigeration. The condenser, which is where hot, highpressure, refrigerant gas is cooled to the point that itbecomes a liquid, is the most intensive component inthe heat exchange equation. In an air-cooled ultra-lowtemperature freezer, all of the heat is then releasedinto the surrounding air. This heat energy is lost tothe environment and in most cases, has to beremoved from the building using air conditioning, which requires input of a lot of additional energy. Ifthe air conditioning system fails for any reason, theroom could potentially heat up relatively quickly.
Panasonic’s water-cooled ultra-low temperaturefreezers incorporate a double plate heat-exchangerthat maximises heat energy transfer from therefrigerant to a closed water circuit. As water is moreefficient than air at removing heat, the compressorefficiency is improved, meaning that the powerconsumption of a water-cooled ultra-low temperaturefreezer can be reduced by 15-20% compared to anequivalent air-cooled model. As heat is removedthrough the water, there are much lower demands onthe air conditioning system, resulting in additionalsavings. The energy removed by the water coolingsystem has the potential for use for other purposes
”With less heat dissipated in the freezer room, onlyventilation is needed, rather than air-conditioning, which not only requires energy but wastes heat”

within the facility, such as heating water for hand-washing, or heating the building, reducing site-wideenergy costs. As well as the environmental andfinancial benefits, a water-cooled system can alsoimprove freezer performance and sample protection. The greater cooling capacity of water leads to areduction in pull-down time by up to 40%, meaningfaster temperature recovery after door-opening andimproved sample security. Should the air conditioningsystem in the freezer room fail, the room will heat upless quickly, as less heat is being released into theroom, helping to maintain freezer operation andprotect samples.
“With less heat dissipated in the freezer room, onlyventilation is needed, rather than air-conditioning,which not only requires energy but wastes heat. Water is circulated at 18ºC and leaves the freezers at 23–24ºC. However, this heat energy is not wasted, asthe warmed water is used to contribute to the centralheating for the whole building,” explained Dr. Korn1.“With more than 100 instruments throughout the IMBconnected to the water-cooling system, only a veryfew laboratories and measurement rooms requireactive cooling. Therefore, the IMB is able to reduceenergy costs and benefit the environment.”
The IMB also runs instruments and equipment, suchas freezers, at the limit of capacity to optimiseefficiency. The Panasonic freezers are located togetherin a dedicated area to make use of a centralisedmonitoring and alarm system, which constantlychecks the temperature, power supply and coolingwater for all units.
“Although initially more expensive than equivalentair-cooled freezers, choosing the water-cooledcondenser option enables the IMB to use less energyand make significant savings in the medium and longterm. We believe this is the way to go for the future,”remarked Dr. Korn1. “Installing the freezers was essentially a ‘plug-and-
play’ experience for us - The freezers arrived, theywere hooked up to the cooling water, switched on andthey worked! In the longer term, another importantfactor for us was the high level of service and fullguarantee provided by EWALD InnovationstechnikGmbH, Panasonic’s German Distributor. Panasonic iswell known, not only for the quality and reliability ofits laboratory freezers, but also for building goodcustomer relationships and providing excellenttechnical support.”Panasonic has since introduced a hybrid water-coolingoption for its Eco Series freezers (MDF-DU300H, MDF-DU500VH and MDF-DU700VH). This hybridsystem offers even greater sample security byallowing the freezer to function via an air-cooledcondenser, if for any reason, the water cooling systemfails, therefore, ensuring samples are still protectedunder these exceptional circumstances.
Water-cooling is an ideal solution for any facility witha recirculating, cooled-water circuit, as it not onlyprovides great energy savings and reducedenvironmental impact, but also offers even betterperformance and sample security.

Just like any other apparatus, laboratory equipmentneeds regular maintenance to remain in optimalworking condition. However, in busy workplaces, thisoften gets forgotten or overlooked. It can seemrelatively unimportant, until samples are put at risk.Panasonic has developed a cost effective solution toensure that its products receive the attention theydeserve, whilst minimising the effort required forcustomers. An in-warranty maintenance package fromPanasonic can lengthen the lifespan of equipment andreduce overall lifetime costs. For Panasonic productscovered by extended warranties, a basic essentialmaintenance schedule isavailable at a reduced price.
“Our products areproduced to exceptionallyhigh standards, which iswhat makes them soreliable,” explained IgorSpierenburg, Panasonic’sService Manager for Europe. “Ifthe unit is not used, itscondition would probably lastindefinitely. However, customers buy our productsfor many different purposesand varied demands. Somecustomer applications involvelight ‘duties’ and others willreally utilise them to themaximum. To maintain a highlevel of performance, productsin use require some daily or
frequent attention from the user, as well as a more in-depth check on an annual level, carried out by theexperts on these products - Panasonic’s qualifiedService Engineers.”
Essential careDaily maintenance carried out by users of theproducts might include tasks, such as: scraping iceand cleaning the condenser filter on a medicalfreezer; checking the CO2 concentration and cleaningthe interior on an incubator; replacing the lamps onan environmental test-chamber; or defrosting a cooled
incubator.
“This daily or frequentmaintenance can becompared to the
straightforward tasks thatyou would carry out as a car-

This isnever a 100% guarantee, of course, but our engineershave the experience and know-how to keep the qualityof the unit at a level, as though just installed andpowered on from brand new!”
Service beyond screws and softwarePanasonic has more than 250 qualified ServiceEngineers across Europe. These individuals aretrained to exceptionally high standards. Throughintensive ongoing- and modular training schemes, they achieve qualification in various technical andservice aspects, such as First Response andDiagnostics training in Panasonic’s ultra-lowtemperature freezer and incubators, AdvancedCascade Training for Panasonic’s ultra-lowtemperature freezers and Validation Training.Certification in each subject remains valid for twoyears, after which, each engineer must re-qualify.Panasonic ensures that all its Service Engineersremain up-to-date on the newest techniques throughtraining and testing courses in Europe and withPanasonic’s engineers, in Japan. Next year, an e-learning training platform will be introduced toenhance training of the Service Engineers evenfurther. Each qualified engineer carries anidentification card that clearly explains who they areand what their specific qualifications are. Panasonicalso cultivates a holistic approach to technicalsupport.
“We say that technical support is an attitude, not adepartment,” said Igor. “It means our ServiceEngineers are not only qualified, but dedicated toensuring that customers get the optimal benefit fromtheir Panasonic products. Their passion for innovationgoes beyond the technical features of our products to
cover how they integrate into the laboratoryenvironment.”
Flexible service packagesPanasonic has developed a number of servicepackages to meet any demand of the customer withclear content and fair pricing. Customers can getinformation on price and arrange their package ofchoice through local Panasonic Sales Representativesor online. Even in the event that the Service Engineercannot repair the unit immediately, there areopportunities for back-up equipment to be sent to thecustomer until the repaired unit is available.
Panasonic’s service package options include:• WARRANTY PLUSDesigned for customers who wish to keep theirequipment in optimum condition during its warrantyperiod, at an affordable price. but deterioration might have already started insidethe system,” explained Igor. “A lot of the componentsin the products are moving parts, which have limitedlife cycle and require replacement or cleaning at somestage. When this is not performed, the system couldstart to operate less optimally and the powerconsumption will increase due to more friction in thesystem. Even electrical components could start tomalfunction, because of the current inside of theelectrical systems. These are allnormal with a mechanicalproduct that has some movingparts. Eventually, the unit couldstop working or work incorrectly, and in biomedical applications, this could result in skewed testresults or even loss of samples.”
“In most cases, the resultantdamage to the samples keptwithin the Panasonic units wouldbe far more expensive than the price of a serviceinspection or service maintenance visit,” Igoremphasized. “We therefore recommend every ownerof a Panasonic Biomedical product to consider anannual maintenance on their equipment to make surethat the best care is in place to protect the samplesinside, as well as the product itself and not to forgetthe environment, because it will prevent anunnecessary increase in power required tocompensate lack of performance.”
Discovery powered by precisionWith a precisely-maintained Panasonic product, customers can achieve optimal results. One example
is from a large university medical centre in TheNetherlands, which currently utilises more than 160pieces of Panasonic equipment under contract. Fromthe moment of taking on the contract up until now(four years), failure rate of equipment at the medicalcentre has dropped by 30%, because of the intenseinvolvement of Panasonic’s dedicated engineers, whocarry out annual maintenance. The Panasonicengineers have optimised the maintenance
programme to fit the individualusage of each specific piece ofequipment, and are, therefore, able to offer optimal support,as well as learning more aboutthe use of the equipment insuch an application.
Aligned with customerneedsPreventative Maintenance ofPanasonic equipment through
a service agreement is becoming increasingly popular.Panasonic strives to continually evolve its serviceoffer alongside customer needs.
“We are currently exploring the possibility toincorporate the use of communication methods thatdetect problems developing before they actuallyhappen, so that we can warn customers and takeaction before a problem arises” said Igor. “This is amove towards remote service applications, which ismade possible through tuning our diagnosticcapabilities in temperature-mapping for example. The future looks bright for even more proactiveservice from Panasonic.”

Safer cryopreservation with Panasonic’s –150°C ultra-low Temperature Freezers
Panasonic developed the world’s first -152°C ultra-low temperature freezer
in 1991 in response to a growing demand for cryopreservation solutions
following medical and scientific advances, such as the increased use of
cryopreserved oocytes in IVF and stem cells in transplants. Since then,
Panasonic has continually invested in the ongoing development of
cryogenic freezers, introducing improved insulation, better refrigeration
technology and alarm systems, and a bigger capacity. The latest Panasonic
MDF-C2156VAN and MDF-1156 ultra-low temperature freezers offer
unparalleled safety, reliability and uniform temperatures thanks to the
application of over 20 years of specialist expertise.
Reaching the ultra-lowtemperatures necessary for thecryopreservation of living cellswithout causing any damage orloss of viability requires specialtechniques and methods.Cryopreservation was traditionallyachieved using liquid phasenitrogen (LN2). Whilst thisachieved the lowest possiblestorage temperatures, it requiredthe use of large volumes of LN2,which is a potential hazard.Following the publication of anumber of documented cases ofmajor cross contamination byvirus pathogens via LN2, includinga well-known caseof transmission ofHepatitis B viabone marrowtransplants1),there was a shifttowards usingvapour phasenitrogen forcryopreservation. However, this cancreate an uneventemperaturedistributionthroughout thestorage chamber, with highertemperatures at the top. Vapourphase storage chambers also tendto have a higher rate of staticevaporation than liquid phasetanks, resulting in increased liquidnitrogen use and greateroperational costs. Panasonic’s -150ºC freezers provide effectivecryogenic storage without thedisadvantages of liquid or vapourphase nitrogen. An increasingnumber of customers, includingblood and tissue banks, hospitals, research institutes, pharmaceuticalcompanies, animal healthinstitutes and biobanks are
opting for the added safety andsecurity that they offer. The twoPanasonic models, MDF-C2156VAN(231 litres) and MDF-1156/MDF-1156ATN (128 litres), areavailable with a range ofaccessories, such as a variety ofinventory solutions for even moreefficient sample storage andimproved usability.
Stable, uniform and reliableultra-low temperaturesFor successful cryopreservation, temperatures must be stable andwell below the critical temperatureof -135ºC (the recrystallization
point of water).Temperatureuniformitythroughout thefreezer is essential.Transitions aboveand below thiscritical temperaturecan cause damageto cells and loss ofviability, due to thechange in crystalformation. Invapour phase LN2systems, large
temperature gradients can developbetween the top and bottom ofstorage containers, which putssamples at risk. In crucial medicaland research applications, this canlead to the loss of life-saving,highly valuable or irreplaceablebiological materials. Panasonic’s -150ºC freezers feature a specially-designed cascade refrigerationsystem with Cool Safe®compressors. compressor lifetime, therebyincreasing the durability of thefreezers. Temperatures within thefreezers are extremely uniform, adding assurance that all samplescan be stored in identicalconditions. For complete security, the MDF-C2156VAN and MDF-1156ATN models comecomplete with LN2 back-upconnections as standard. Both ofPanasonic’s -150ºC freezersincorporate Status Alertcontinuous condition monitoring. The temperature, filter andcascade sensors monitoroperational conditionscontinuously. Should anabnormality be identified, analarm, error code and the currenttemperature are clearly displayed, allowing users to take promptaction.
Removes major health andsafety considerationsThe use of liquid nitrogen raisesnumerous major health and safetyissues. As LN2 evaporates, itreduces the oxygen concentrationin the air and can act as anasphyxiant, especially in confinedspaces such as laboratories.Nitrogen is odourless, colourless, and tasteless and can causeasphyxiation by oxygen depletionwithout any sensation or priorwarning. Consequently liquidnitrogen tanks need to be placedin well-ventilated areas tominimise this risk, such asspecialised storage rooms. Usersmust observe considerable healthand safety measures when usingLN2 and may be required tocomplete multiple forms andemergency action plans. Personalprotective equipment must beworn whenever dealing with liquidnitrogen storage containers toprevent contact with skin. SomeLN2 storage containers requiremanual filling, which puts users ateven greater risk of LN2 contact, cold skin burns and frostbite. Useof Panasonic’s -150ºC freezersremoves these risks, although theymust, of course, be closelyobserved for any LN2 back-upsystems employed in conjunctionwith the freezers.
No risk of cross-contaminationA number of serious cases ofcross-contamination of samples in
traditional LN2 storage have beenpublished. These cases changedthe way scientists stored theirvital samples and moved themarket away from storage in theliquid phase and towards vapourphase storage. There are somestudies that suggest cross-contamination can still occur invapour phase nitrogen storage 2),however, this is currentlyunconfirmed. With Panasonic’s -150ºC freezers there is no risk ofcross-contamination.
Eliminates liquid supply issuesLN2 vaporizes continuouslymeaning that a constant supply to
the container is required. Inremote locations and places whereroads can be badly affected byweather, issues with replenishingsupplies of LN2 may arise. Samplesecurity can be jeopardised if aconstant supply is not possible.Panasonic’s -150ºC freezers onlyrequire a standard European 230V,50Hz power supply.
Low operational costsThe constant supply of liquidnitrogen required for an LN2storage chamber to functionproperly often leads to highoperational costs. Not only is thecost of the liquid nitrogen itselfhigh in many areas, but usersmust also account for thetransport and storage of the liquidnitrogen, which can be significant.Panasonic -150ºC freezers useefficient refrigeration systems aswell as a host of other featuresdesigned to minimise energyconsumption, meaning electricalrunning costs are extremely low.
User-friendly DesignPanasonic’s VIP PLUS insulationreduces the wall thickness of theMDF-C2156VAN to save valuablelaboratory space, as well ascontributing to overall energyefficiency, due to the low thermalconductivity of the insulation.Panasonic’s Cool Safe compressorsextend compressor lifetime, minimise heat output and are alsoquiet when running, making thefreezers ideal for installation inbusy laboratories.Clear information on freezerstatus and access for operation isprovided by the MDF-C2156VAN’suser-friendly, LCD control panel.
With numerous clear advantagesover liquid and vapour phase
nitrogen cryopreservation,Panasonic’s MDF-C2156VANand MDF-1156 ultra-lowtemperature freezers arealready in wide use to storean extensive range ofbiological materials.

universities, hospitals anddiagnostics laboratories, areopting for the unrivalledperformance and design of thisadvanced biomedical freezer.
Uniform and stabletemperatures The MDF-U731M -30ºC BiomedicalPro Upright Freezer features directcooling with a full cold walldesign. The evaporator pipes, which remove heat from inside thecabinet, are located in the back, sides, top and bottom walls of thefreezer to ensure uniformtemperatures throughout. Tooptimise the temperatureuniformity even further, the pipesare strategically placed closertogether towards the top of thefreezer. This produces naturalconvection of the air inside thefreezer as the colder air falls tothe bottom, ensuring an eventemperature distributionthroughout the large chamber. The
absence of ‘warm’ or ‘cold spots’,typically found in ‘domestic style’freezers, ensures that all samplesare stored at the desiredtemperature. Cold wall technologyalso ensures maximum sampleprotection by providing a rapidtemperature recovery after dooropening.
As there is no automatic defrostcycle on the MDF-U731M, the innerchamber offers outstandingtemperature stability without anyshort term temperature increases.Manual defrost is often beneficialfor applications in which veryconstant and stable temperaturesare required - for example, in strictGMP applications or for thestorage of temperature sensitivesamples.
Extensive storage possibilitiesFixed shelf positions and non-changeable compartments withinmany biomedical freezers can
restrict storage options and limitcapacity. With adjustable shelving, the MDF-U731M -30ºC BiomedicalPro Upright Freezer can providesignificantly more usable capacityand a comprehensive range ofstorage options for a widernumber of applications. With theaddition of optional MDF-T07STextra shelves (available in a set ofthree) the MDF-U731M canaccommodate up to 14 plasticstorage containers. These optionalMDF-T07SC storage containers areideal for customers who need tostore a variety of different types ofsamples in different containers, including boxes, bottles and tubes.Individual containers can beallocated to different users orsample types for the most efficientuse of space. Panasonic also offersinventory racks for the storage ofcryoboxes within the MDF-U731M,giving it the capacity to store upto 384 50mm (2 inch) cryoboxes.
Maximum sample securityThe MDF-U731M -30ºC BiomedicalPro Upright Freezer features afully comprehensive alarm systemwith diagnostic functions andremote alarm. High and lowtemperature alarms can be set bythe user and easily adjusted tosuit specific applications andneeds. A door alarm alerts users ifthe door has been left openaccidentally. In the event of apower cut, the power failure alarmalerts users to the situation andthe non-volatile memory of themicroprocessor controller ensuresthat the freezer parameters remainas they were previously afterpower is returned to the unit. Inaddition, the MDF-U731M has an

Superior performance bydesignPanasonic’s MDF-U731M -30ºCBiomedical Pro Upright Freezerincorporates a refrigerationsystem that has been specificallydesigned to provide the bestperformance for use in demandinglaboratory environments, whilstmaximising efficiency and ease ofuse. The reciprocating compressorwithin the MDF-U731M features anoil cooler pipe. High compressorrunning temperatures canjeopardise the reliability anddurability of a freezer. In the Panasonic system, coldrefrigerant is passed through apipe in the base of the compressorto cool the oil, optimise lubricantproperties and reduce compressor-running temperatures. A skincondenser reduces routinemaintenance, noise level andenergy use as there is norequirement for a noisy condenserfan motor or filter. A ventilationline at the bottom of the doorreleases negative pressure that can
form on door closing, thereforereducing the waiting time neededto re-open the door, which is idealfor busy laboratories wherefreezers are accessed regularly. Inaddition, a hot gas line around thefreezer door prevents the build-upof ice and minimises cold air loss,by ensuring that the magneticdoor gasket seals effectivelyagainst the frame of the freezer.
A professional solution for awide range of applications Whilst ‘domestic style’ freezersmight appear to offer laboratoriesan inexpensive storage solution, the added risk to the security ofvaluable samples is significant.Investing in a professionalsolution in the form of purposedesigned Panasonic freezers, likethe MDF-U731M -30ºCBiomedical Pro UprightFreezer, can ensure thatsamples are properlyprotected. With its large capacity, extensivestorage options and advancedenergy efficient technology, theMDF-U731M can replace severalsmaller, ‘domestic style’ freezers, saving customers space, energyand operational costs, as well asproviding a much safer storageenvironment for precious samples.

Panasonic products are used by a growing number of customers for the preservation or
cultivation of human cells, tissues and blood components, and selected products are
classified as medical devices in this context, according to the European Union’s (EU)
Medical Device Directive (MDD). Panasonic was one of the first major international
companies to be awarded certification in compliance with the MDD for a wide range of
incubation and refrigeration products in 2011. Since then, it has continued
with commitment to certification of key products and its quality systems to
ensure that Panasonic products meet all current and future regulatory
requirements.
Stringent legislationThe EU’s MDD was established in the1990s to ensure that medical devicesof all kinds are safe, performeffectively and are designed,
manufactured, tested and marketedaccording to harmonised methods and conditions. The stringent European standards are acknowledgedglobally, although other regions have their ownspecific regulations for medical device developmentand production.
The legislation comprises of three relevant Directives:n the Active Implantable Medical Device (AIMD)
Directive - 90/385/EEC;n the Medical Device Directive (MDD) - 93/42/EEC;
andn the In Vitro Diagnostic Device Directive (IVD) -
98/79/EC.
The Directives 90/385/EEC (AIMD) and 93/42/EC(MDD) were changed by Directive 2007/47/EC of theEuropean Parliament and the Council of 5th September2007. These changes applied from 21st March 2010.
In addition, medical devices and accessories areclassified into one of four classes: I, IIa, IIb and III.This classification is based on the specific devices’invasiveness; duration of continuous contact with thebody; the nature of the tissue contact and whether thedevice is non-active or active. In general:n Class I includes devices with low risk, such as
external patient support products.n Class IIa/b covers devices with medium risk, such
as electro-medical devices.
n Class III comprises devices with high risk, such ascardiovascular catheters.
Panasonic is certified to manufacture blood bankrefrigerators, freezers and incubators as Class IIamedical devices, in line with Directives 93/42/EECand 2007/47/EC, for the following medical purposes:• Blood bank refrigerators - Storage of blood.• Freezers - Storage of cells, organs, DNA or plasma.• Incubators - Culture of cell tissues, organs orembryos.
Compliance with the Directive and certification forClass IIa devices is assessed and granted by a specific,EU-designated, Notified Body – For Panasonic’sproducts, this authority is the TÜV-Süd, a leadingtechnical service organisation, with headquarters inMunich, Germany.
Unwavering commitmentEvery step in the process of design, manufacture andtesting is subject to a multitude of complex andspecific rules and regulations when applying formedical device status. Declaring a relevant product asa medical device is a significant scientific, engineeringand business undertaking. It is very different fromdeveloping a ‘non-medical’ electronic product.
Obtaining MDD certification shows not only thatPanasonic products are designed and manufactured toexceptionally high standards, but also that Panasonicis deeply committed to serving scientificprofessionals in the medical field and ultimately, helping patients.
Complying with progressMedical device certification
C E R T I F I C A T I O N
Achieving certification requires compliance thatextends way beyond product function. It demands thatPanasonic provides a consistent and effective qualitymanagement system, technical documentation, essential product requirements, information aboutharmonised standards and medical device regulations, risk analysis, post-marketing surveillance, reportingunder the vigilance system, and a retention system forcertain critical documentation. Certified medicaldevices must display a CE mark that indicatesconformance with the MDD.
Acquiring MDD approval is definitely a lengthy andintricate process. Panasonic had to submit extensiveinformation for certification and assessment, including technical documentation, test results anddata on quality systems. A large cross-functional teamwas involved, including development, engineering, regulatory and quality experts. In applying for EUMDD certification, Panasonic also upgradedcompliance of its quality systems to the highest andlatest global standards for medical devices accordingto ISO (the International Organisation forStandardization) - ISO13485.
Matched with market developmentThe first Panasonic biomedical products to beawarded MDD certification in 2011 were: the MCO-19AIC CO2 incubator with rapid H2O2 vapourdecontamination option; the MBR-305GR blood bankrefrigerator; and the MDF-U74V ultra-low temperaturefreezer. Since then, many more Panasonic productshave also been certified, including:n MBR-305GR-PE n MBR-705GR-PEn MCO-170AIC-PE series n MDF-U55V-PE n MDF-U700VX-PEn MDF-DU300H-PEn MDF-DU500VH-PEn MDF-DU700VH-PE
As medical technology advances, the need forincubators and refrigerators for cultivation or storageof cells and tissues for human use is expected to growfurther. Panasonic already provides a wide range ofcertified products for this sector, but investscontinually and significantly to stay ahead of marketand customers’ needs.

Panasonic’s MIR programmable cooled incubators:
Precision andversatility
Panasonic’s MIR series includes three programmablecooled incubator models that provide a range ofcapacities: the MIR-154-PE (123 litres), MIR-254-PE(238 litres) and the MIR-554-PE (406 litres). A host ofaccessory options are also available for the MIRseries that extend flexibility of the system further.
Precise performance An extensive temperature range supports theexceptional versatility of the MIR series. Every MIRcooled incubator can be set to any temperaturebetween -10ºC and +60ºC. Precise temperaturecontrol with minimal fluctuation is achievedthrough the high precision, microprocessor-controlled PID heater. This system minimisestemperature fluctuations toonly ±0.2ºC, using heatercontrol only, and ±1.5ºC incombination with compressor-control. This level of accuracyis essential for the success ofmany environmental tests, experiments withmicroorganisms and plantgermination in particular. Inthese examples, the MIR series’door window and fluorescentlamp enable clear observationof samples and minimise theneed to open the door, whichcan create temperaturefluctuations. Day and night simulation can beachieved with a window blanking plate. This comesas standard with the MIR-554 model and isoptionally available for the MIR-154 and MIR-254models. In addition, fan circulation optimises thetemperature uniformity within the incubators. Thedoor switch automatically turns the circulation fanoff with door opening to minimise air loss andreduce temperature recovery times. In a dynamicenvironment, such as a busy microbiological testinglaboratory, this can be particularly important.
Buffering against ‘extremes’Working with incubators at the lowest or highesttemperatures within this range offers great
flexibility and work efficiency. Panasonic’s MIRseries incorporates innovative features that enableversatile performance. An internal fan offerstemperature uniformity in the incubators within awide temperature range. The MIR-154 and MIR-254models include a fan that is angled obliquelyupward to prevent direct air flow contactingsamples. This prevents the medium fromdesiccation and reduces medium drying. At loweroperating temperatures, ice can accumulate on theevaporator, which can be observed through the frostcheck window. Depending on the experiment andthe level and duration of the set temperatures, atwhich the incubator is being used, a choice can bemade either for automatic (daily) defrost or manual
defrost. The manual defrostcycle is started manually viathe control panel and iscompleted automatically.
Controlled lightingprotocolsFor a wide range ofenvironmental testing, andalso plant, algae and insectstudies, controlled lighting isintegral to experimentalprotocols. Panasonic’s MIRseries features two levels ofillumination with timed ‘on/off’ control. The incubators
are equipped with a fluorescent lamp (15W x 1pc),as standard. However, an optional light addition kit(MIR-L15) is also available, enabling up to threemore fluorescent lights to be placed in the chamberceiling, allowing greater flexibility in light intensity.
Advanced programming optionsAdvanced programming capabilities are anothermajor feature of the MIR series. Straightforwardconstant temperatures can be set, as is required intesting waste water for Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD), where a constant temperature of 20ºC isrequired for a period of five days. Or multi-step testprotocols, such as those required for plantgermination, can be programmed in easily with the

Many test and experimentation protocols require wide-ranging, high-precision,
automatic temperature and lighting control, for example, in analysing the performance
of a sample over a range of environmental conditions. In others, distinct and precise
temperature and lighting protocols are critical at specific times, as in the culture of
biological samples or in plant germination. Precision, repeatability and reliability in
laboratory testing are essential to avoid jeopardising samples, results, or entire
research projects. Panasonic’s MIR programmable cooled incubators offer exceptional
accuracy, reliability and flexibility, as well as value for money and enhanced efficiency.
Laboratories around the world and from a diverse range of industries are benefiting
from outstanding performance of the Panasonic MIR cooled incubators.
”Temperature accuracy is essential for the success of many environmentaltests, experiments with microorganismsand plant germination in particular.”
MIR series. Repeatable programs incorporating up to12 different steps per program that combine flexibletemperature, light on/off and time control arepossible. And up to ten programs can be stored forconvenient retrieval. Each program can be repeatedone to 98 times or continuously repeated. Programinput is simple and the incubators accommodate arange of diversified experimentation requirements. They are ideal for experimentation during night time, weekends and holidays, when experimentationsettings can be changed automatically, eliminating theneed for scientists to return to the laboratory duringthese times.
Sample protectionMaintaining optimum sample security is a priority indynamic laboratory environments with manyemployees accessing incubators during the course ofthe day or night. It is even more important whenworking with particularly valuable samples. The MIRseries features a comprehensive audio-visual alarmsystem that alerts the user to temperature deviationand other malfunctions. This helps to reduce the risksto valuable samples and experiments. An alarm ring-back function resets the buzzer to inform the user ifthe incubator remains in alarm condition after thebuzzer mute switch has been pressed. Self-diagnosticmessages can reduce service response times andcosts, by enabling the user to inform the servicedepartment of faults. And a non-volatile memory forprogram settings and battery back-up of clockfunction ensure continued operation after recoveryfrom power failure. For added security, the MIR seriescomes with a user-settable, four-digit keypad lockpassword and remote alarm output. An optional doorpadlock bracket is also available.
Easy-to-useThe series is easy-to-use through intuitive operationwith the LCD display that has a pop-up menu for fasttemperature setting and advanced programming. Ithas an effective data acquisition system with dataacquisition software that enables remote monitoringof cooled incubators. Data can be sent to a PC with the
optional communication interface board (MTR-480).The MIR series is designed for comfortable operationand has a reversible door with choice of left- or right-hand door opening (available for the MIR-154 andMIR-254 models).
Flexibility that creates significant savingsOffering outstanding value, the MIR series providesongoing savings in space, energy, efficiency andlabour. To save valuable laboratory space, the MIR-154can be stacked using the optional Stacking Kit (MIR-S154SB). Optimum energy savings are achievedby the highly efficient, microprocessor-controlled, PID heater that reduces compressor operation athigher temperatures1.The advanced programmingcapability of the MIR programmable cooled incubatorscan also enhance labour-efficiency by increasing theoutput of busy test laboratories, ensuring thatreduced staff availability at nights and weekends doesnot disrupt protocols. The MIR controller can beprogrammed so that the temperature is reduced to+4ºC after a normal incubation period to refrigeratesamples until they can be removed.
With exceptional precision and advancedprogramming capabilities, Panasonic’s MIRprogrammable cooled incubators are suitable for awide range of applications, from environmental, water, materials electronic and food testing to algae, insect and plant studies.
