Journal analysisBy Wan Noordiana Wan Hanafi, SJ 22337Journal tittle: Extraversion, openness and conscientiousnessThe route to transformational leadership in the hotel industryAuthor: Anastasios Zopiatis, Panayiotis ConstantiObjectives: To add to existing knowledge pertaining to the relationship between leadership and personality traits in the hotel industry;To utilize the findings in order to inform industry stakeholders, especially those directly involved with human development processes, regarding the specifics and implications of the issues under investigation.Problem statementAn investigation into leadership is a significant undertaking, within the Cyprus context, bearing in mind that approximately 20 per cent of countrys GDP (Cyprus Government Statistics, 2010) is reliant on the hotel and tourism industry. An industry operating in an environment which is traditionally highly labour intensive, and which, by default, demands effective leadershiptheoryLEADERSHIPTransactional Leadership: : Transactional leadership are a leader ability to identify their followers needs and clearly show the ways to fulfill these needs in exchange for the performance of followers. Transactional leaders employ three factors which are: (1) Contigent reward (2) Management by exception: active (3) management by exception: passiveTransformational Leadership: Transformational leaders are those leaders whom create ownership on the part of group members, by involving group members into the decision process rather than exchanging reward for performance. There where five dimension which are idealised influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, idealized behaviours and idealized traits.Laissez fair : A leader whom would not give any supervision towards their employees, this type of leader styles is similar with a leaders that dont lead, this occurs because their employee are highly experienced and needed only a little supervision to obtain the expected outcome that were required by the leader.

B. PERSONALITY- The way we interact and react to those around us, and which is usually described via a set of measurable traits that we exhibitOne model which has been used extensively in personality research is the five-factor model of personality (Tupes and Christal, 1961) and constitutes the following:

Research limitations or implications The small sample size (n = 131) and the homogeneity of the sample, limit the generalizability of the findings to other environments.Practical implications Hospitality organizations should recruit, promote and invest in developing extrovert individuals who are both open to experience and conscientious, and who also exhibit transformational leadership behaviors.
