St. Eustace - Master PlanLake Placid, New YorkCLA SITE provided landscape architectural services for the design of a $350,000 facility upgrade for the St. Eustace Episcopal Church, in downtown Lake Placid, NY. Project objec ves were to create mul -use gathering spaces for outdoor sermons, pre and post church services, recrea on, and annual Town of Lake Placid events and fes vals. The scope of work included site visits, site inventory and analysis, conceptual design, construc on cost es ma on, and fi nal design plans, renderings and presenta on to the town to achieve project funding.

A series of various sized ered gathering spaces combined with retaining walls and plan ngs were designed to highlight surrounding town focal points, and to meet project goals. The following drawings narrate the design process from inventory and analysis, to conceptual design, through the fi nal design presenta on drawings.

The Norwood Facility is a sand, gravel and aggregate mine, in which over 25 acres of property has reached it’s life of mine. CLA SITE provided stormwater management, engineering and landscape architectural services to create a reclama on plan to: stabilize eroded slopes; control runoff through the design of stormwater ponds, grass lined swales, stone check dams, earthen berms and hydroseeding with a custom na ve slope stabiliza on seed mix. The breadth of work included: a detailed inventory and analysis of exis ng watersheds, reclama on site plan, construc on/bid documents, and construc on cost es ma on.

Sec ons A-A’ and B-B’ illustrate a detailed analysis of the exis ng topography in two par cular areas that were the sites of large scale slope failures, consis ng of over 4000 CY of material, due to inadequate drainage. A detailed surfacing study was also conducted between exis ng and proposed grading to calculate slope failure impact. A grading and drainage plan, alongside construc on documents were designed and dra ed to regrade the areas of slope failure, and implement sustainable erosion control methods.

CLA SITE provided sub consultant landscape architectural services for the site reconnaissance, inventory and analysis, conceptual design, presenta on graphics for board presenta ons, and construc on cost es ma on for segment #2 of the historic Champlain Canal Trail system.

The historic Champlain Canal Trail system is a 58-mile network of public pedestrian and bike trails, running north south along the previous site of the Champlain Canals and Locks.

Over 2 miles of poten al trail routes were iden fi ed during the site reconnaissance with various obstacles including dense vegeta on, wetland crossings, stream crossings, fl ooded historic trail sec ons, and railroad crossings. CLA SITE was contracted to provide conceptual innova ve design solu ons to overcome these obstacles, with minimal impact to surrounding wildlife.

The project goals were to highlight historic Champlain Canal and Lock elements along the trail, while crea ng opportuni es to interconnect already exis ng segments of the trail system to the north and south.

With over 5 years of experience in the landscape construc on fi eld, in various posi ons from laborer to landscape construc on foreman to designer, I have gained a unique understanding and confi dence in all phases of landscape architectural design and construc on from conceptual design through fi nal construc on drawings and bid documents, and installa on.

I am profi cient in the design, fi eld layout, and construc on of all plan ng design projects and hardscape design projects including: natural stone retaining walls, pa os, and steps; paver stone pa os, segmental retaining walls, and steps; and cultured stone veneers.

Also adding to my fi eld experience, I am a Cer fi ed Nursery and Landscape Professional (CNLP), which demonstrates an extensive knowledge of plant material iden fi ca on and care, disease iden fi ca on, and landscape construc on principles.

The following images represent plan ng design and landscape construc on projects that I was involved in over the course of my me working in the fi eld.

The Honest Weight Food Co-op, one of the oldest running food co-ops in the northeast, a coopera ve model that con nues to be adopted by newly founded co-ops, thrives as an example of deep rooted community and culture. When Honest Weight moved to its new loca on in 2014, the now na ve gardens existed only as trampled turf and weeds.

Myself and two others volunteered to spearhead the design and coordina on of plan ng a na ve meadow garden that would hold its aesthe c throughout all seasons, and act as a screening bed between the outdoor gathering space and parking lot. We chose to use Piet Oudolf’s plan ng philosophy, and emulated the gardens a er the High Line, in NYC. The following images show our design process and the fi nal product during the fall, spring and summer months.
