The proposal site is part of a re-locating families housing' plan, in favour of urban

reformulation of Coimbra' uptown. This plan aimed to relocate poor families, which justifythe economical character of its architecture.

By the time of its construction, it was located in the vicinities of Coimbra. Nowadays,

its situation become one of the city' urban centres. In order to support the differences of daily life needs from those of half century ago,

and despite the strong legislation in what concerns to reconstruction projects, it was

possible to increase the construction area, allowing the improvement of the interiorspace' quality.

During my internship I had the opportunity to work in several projects. This one was verychallenging due to the morphology of the terrain. It had a steep pendant and consequently, the

access to the parcel was very difficult. However, the view over the city made it worth it.

Besides the huge slope, the proposal site was also characterized by its narrow limits. In order to provide to most the rooms natural light, it was adopted a patio solution, resulting in a

small terrace in the middle of the dwelling.

Instant HouseInternational Competition, Milan 2012

The aim of the competition was to promote the study of housing strategies that couldsupport the new residential needs of users who may be highly mobile.

The inherent characteristics of city users pose significant problems to which traditional

living spaces are often unable to provide satisfying results in terms of cost or spatialorganization.

In Milan, thousands of people use the city occasionally or infrequently (ranging from a

few days to a few months at a time), for reasons that enrich its culture and urban vitality. Thisis a resource that should be reinforced; it is appropriate to capture its value as a driving force,

essential for its economic and social value.

The responses to this new type of housing needs are still weak, significantly lacking inquality and quantity. What is missing is an efficient and extensive network across the territory;

existing locations offer obsolete choices in their methods of use and are inadequate to the

new forms of spatial organization. Social housing construction has failed to adequately meet

these needs because it is still closely related to the outdated image of stable nuclear familiesthat live permanently in the same home for their entire lives.

The competition proposes to experiment on housing models for people who do not live

permanently in the same location. The strategy of locating temporary housing in themetropolitan area is part of a broad-based vision of those who live in the city for limited

periods. The profiled field of this edition of the Instant House competition is part of the “Sustainable

Campus” plan launched by the Politecnico di Milano.

ISA HeadquartersProject develop during professional internship

by the orientation of Architect Alexandre Saraiva Dias

ISA is a New Technology related company that due to its current growing processhad the need to enlarge its headquarters. The proposal is located in the New

Technological Business Centre in Coimbra, which is characterized through its naturalsurroundings and wide open spaces.

The major concern of the client, besides the required technological equipment

areas, was to create three considerable open spaces that could increase its employees'interactions.

The answer to this problem consisted in organising these spaces in a central position, inorder to allow favourable resources flow, and simultaneously, would value the

interior/exterior interaction.

Due to proper legislation, it was required to organize half of the programmeunderground, which was used to locate the major technical areas, allowing the social and

working spaces the constant contact with the exterior.Despite the fact that the building is punctuated with several open exterior spaces,

they are dissimulated by a uniform perception, which is built up through the repetition of

one single element - a vertical blade. This structure allows filtering the interior privacyand, at the same time, gives to the proposal an enterpriser image, reinforcing its

programmatic character.

Cova da Moura PathTrienal of Architecture of Lisbon 2010 Universities Competition

Project oriented by Architect Nuno Grande and Architect Gonçalo Byrne

Section schemes of some parts of the path

[042]

This project was a proposal to a competition for university students for the Trienal

of Architecture of Lisbon 2010.The main objective was to value the existent equipments around this particular area

of Amadora, a city near Lisbon that serves the capital as a dormitory suburb. This

particular site is characterized by its lack of urban design, and consequently without anurban liveliness.

After a research, it was clear that the existent equipments didn't need a substitution ,

because they are recent and they respond the needs of the locals inhabitants. Althoughthe quality of these equipments (train stations, sport complex, local business) it was

obvious that its use was reduced due the characteristics of the pedestrian path, that did

not favor the access by the users to which they were intended for.The suggestion to resolve this situation was to draw a new path that connect all the

local equipments and settle a new urban layout. The concept of the proposal was the use

of pre-fabricated elements, that due its repetition and transformation allows a identity of apedestrian path that invites the local inhabitants a journey along their city.

The pre-fabricated elements, through its metamorphose, turns an ordinary path insomething else, the path can become a basketball court, a skatepark, a cycling path, an

open auditorium... This in the main goal of this proposal: the appropriation of the territoryby their users, where their imagination can turn a simple path into a dynamic equipment

improving the life quality of this particular suburb Town.
