PRESIDENTS LETTER Christi Moorehouse/President/CEO As 2019 draws to a close, I would like to reflect back on all Joplin Metro Credit Union accomplished and thank our members for another successful year! It was a year of reflecting, changes, and

making plans to improve your member experience. JMCU continues to grow and we now serve over 5,500 members. We appreciate our loyal members and our goal is to always provide realistic and simple solutions to make your lives easier. Joplin Metro Credit Union has been serving members since 1950, and we will be celebrating 70 years in 2020. Although a lot has changed within those years, our mission of helping members meet their current and financial needs has not changed. JMCU treats you like family and we will continue to work together as a family and focus on you! The value we deliver to our members with competitive rates resulted in strong loan growth. The lending department origi-nated over $8 million in loans bringing the total loans ser-viced by JMCU to over $22 million. We began 2019 with 31 million in assets and have now reached over 33 million in assets. Our 2019 year-to-date net income surpassed what we made last year by August of 2019. This growth wouldn’t be possible without our loyal members. In 2019 JMCU was recognized for their achievements. High-lighted below are some of the achievements and activities that took place during 2019. · We were a finalist for Small Business of the Year for the third year in a row · We made a few internal changes, which included promo-tions for a few of our employees · We were voted favorite credit union in “Favorites of the Four States” for the fifth year in a row · We won best costume theme at the Webb City R-7 Schools Foundation event · We delivered random acts of kindness to various organiza-tions and schools by donating over $3,000 in supplies and gifts! · We gave away a storm shelter valued at $4,500 to some-one in the community · We awarded two $500 scholarships to member college students · We continued the JMCU tradition and helped several mem-ber families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday. A portion of the proceeds from the Holiday Skip-A-Pay help support this cause. Credit Unions were founded on the philosophy of “People Helping People” and in 2019 JMCU supported and spon-sored several organizations and their events. We donated over $16,000 to various non-profits and community organiza-tions. We had several employees volunteer their time as well. We feel it is our commitment to give back and provide assistance wherever we possibly can.

During the year we sell candy bars at our offices with all money going to our Families fund. A portion of the money from Skip-A-Pays also goes into this fund so that we can

help member families during the holiday season.

This year we were able to help 10 families at Thanksgiving

and 15 families for Christmas.

Thank you so much for helping us to be able to do this!

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE YOUR MOST CURRENT CONTACT INFORMATION ON FILE..

If you have changed your phone number, email, or physical address,

please make sure to inform our office.

We want to ensure our members information is as current as possible,

so that we may better serve you and successfully contact you if need be.

Returned mail may receive a storage fee, so please make sure that you

have notified us.

Joplin Metro Credit Union continues to think of new ways to im-prove your credit union experience. We are currently working to-wards more opportunities to provide you with the highest level of service and convenience. JMCU hopes to deliver some exciting announcements in 2020, which will make your credit union experience even better! In addi-tion, our goal is to roll out new services and enhanced products for our members. The more products and services for you at JMCU, the better we can serve as your primary financial institution. As a member-owned credit union we sincerely appreciate your support and the referrals you make to family, friends and acquaintances. Thank you for being our member and we look forward to celebrat-ing 70 years of service in 2020! If you haven’t attended our annual meeting we encourage you to do so in 2020. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 14th, so be sure and save the date! Celebrating 70 years will deliver bigger give aways than before to our members! Thursday, December 19, 2019, we presented Childrens Miracle Network with a check in the

amount of $1,462.54.

Thank you to our members for all the ice cream sales and to those of you that participated in our

skip-a-pay program that made this possible.

Thank you so much!

Remember to Spring forward SUNDAY MARCH 8TH, 2020

We know that the holidays just finished for 2019…

But the best time to start saving for 2020 is now by opening a Christmas Club Account!

Finding yourself paying off holiday purchases until July? If so, then you could benefit greatly from our Christmas

Club accounts!

When you sign up for a Christmas Club account, dividends are compounded and credited to your account eve-

ry quarter. There is no balance requirement and you can easily contribute through payroll deduction.

You may think it’s somewhat like an old-fashioned savings plan but it works! Plus when you contribute to a Christmas Club ac-count, you know how much money you will be able to afford to spend beforehand, helping you to set a budget for your spend-ing. And you know you will have the money there, so you won’t have to worry about how you are going to pay for something at

the last minute.

Putting $10 a week = $40 a month x 12 = $480 $25 bi-weekly = $50 a month x 12 = $600 $50 bi-weekly = $100 a month x 12 = $1200

Stop by either location and open a Christmas Club account with us. It’s FREE & EASY with DIRECT DEPOSIT or PAYROLL

DEDUCTION.

To all of you that purchased a bracelet or a jar opener, made a donation or elected to participate in our skip-a-pay program we thank you. The money collected made this check presentation possible. We also will be purchasing a wig

through Wig-N-Out for a local person in the Joplin area.

We presented a check to Hope 4 You for $2,271.00!

Thank you for your support!

Saturday, December 7, 2019 was JMCU 3rd Annual Acts of Kindness Day! We started out at

Cracker Barrel for lunch and JMCU paid for the meal of a few military officers. Then we headed

to Walmart to shop so we could fulfill several wish lists!

We cleared off the angel tree at Spring River Christian Village and bought gifts for the residents.

Then we bought several items for Children's Haven. We also purchased Christmas wish items

for the Salvation Army from the Angel tree. There is so much that we love about this day, but

we especially love the participation from employees. This is a volunteer event and we had so

much fun delivering gifts. We were invited to Children’s Haven and we delivered several items

on their wish list. We had three SUV’s full of stuff!

IDEAS FOR YOUR TAX REFUND A couple of ideas that maybe you haven’t thought about using your refund check for this year.

Rebuilding your credit—If you don’t have good or excellent credit, getting a loan or even

applying for an apartment can be difficult.

Fortunately, your tax refund can be an opportunity to get a JMCU Secured Credit Card that

cab help you build or rebuild your credit.

A secured credit card is designed for people who are looking to build or rebuild their credit with responsible use. It looks and acts like a standard credit card, with one exception. You must provide a pledged amount from your ac-

count as collateral for your credit card account. This is where your tax refund can become very useful.

By using your tax refund to fund your pledged amount as security, and then using your secured card for everyday purchases, such as gas and groceries, you can start building or rebuilding your credit history, provided you use your

card responsibly.

Your credit line will equal the amount that you have pledged as your deposit. If you don’t have extra money for this

deposit, using your tax refund could be an option to fund the account.

You will need to make payments each month and in doing so you can build your credit history with the 2 major credit

reporting bureaus. Prepaid and debit cards generally can’t do that.

Another option for your tax refund that you might consider is Recharging your batteries. Studies have shown peo-ple who spend their money on experiences rather than physical goods tend to receive more satisfaction from their purchases over a long period. Research suggests taking a vacation can have positive effects on your health, includ-ing stress reduction, heart disease prevention, improved productivity, and better sleep. So why not take a portion of your refund this year and use it to finance a getaway to your favorite destination? A little time in the sun or on the

slopes can go a long way toward building a better year.

Did You Know… Cattle ( which include sheep, camels, and other livestock) are the first and oldest form of money. Each head of cattle was called a caput, which is Latin for “head”. So, a person with a lot of cattle had lots of

caput or “capital”, a word still used today to describe money.

People have used many forms of money, such as soap, cocoa beans, elephant tail hairs, elephants,

grain, animal skins, fishhooks, feathers, tea tobacco, bird claws and bear teeth.

Largest United States bill ever in circulation? The $10,000 bill, which was issued until 1945. As of May 30, 2009, only 336 of these large bills have been known to

survive. Salmon P. Chase is depicted on the bill.

The bird pictured on the American Silver dollar was a real eagle named Peter. From 1830 to 1836, peo-ple who worked at the U.S. Mint adopted him to use as a model for the drawings. When he died after getting his wing injured in the coining press, they stuffed him. He is still on display in the lobby of the

mint.

In old English pygg was a type of clay that was used to make jars and dished that held money. The word

eventually morphed into “piggy bank.”

Not only do money engravers work with incredible precision, but they also have to illustrate backwards. The design they cut into plates is the mirror image of what it will be like when it is printed. It takes 12-15

years of training to become an engraver.

There are more than 1.6 million ATMs in the world. There is even one in Antarctica. Friday is the most

popular day at the ATM. Average amount withdrawn from an ATM is $80.00.

AND NOW YOU KNOW!
