The soldiers used new methods of warfare such as trenches and air attacks.

America would try not to take sides in the war but many Americans disliked the German government because it was not a democracy.

Germany attacked any American or allied ships with u-boats or submarines they could find.

On April 2 president Wilson spoke to congress about joining the war and that America must help “free the seas''. Congress declared war.

A law was passed that required that all men 21 to 30 must sign up for a draft ordering them to serve in the armed forces.

The government had to pay for the war so they set up a system to pay for the war called war bonds or Liberty Bonds.

Germany began a series of attacks across Europe, at first the attacks were successful, but as the army got weaker the attacks started failing until Germany surrendered.
