THE GREENWICH CONTEXT

• Highly diverse student population:

- 30% of final year UG Business students from low participation areas.

- 65% from non-white families.

- Virtually all from state schools

• Population skewed towards part time and older students.

In 2011/12:

- 30% part time

- 45% over 25

• PGT programmes dominated by international students:

OBJECTIVES OF FAST FORWARD MASTERS SCHEME

• Recruit 150 additional home PGT students from traditionally under-represented groups

• Enhance their employment through mentoring and work experience

• Research barriers/incentives to home students undertaking PGT programmes and evaluate impact on employment outcomes

WHAT THE SCHEME OFFERS

• 156 places available on fast forward Masters scheme, offering:

- 60% fee reduction (30% funded through HEFCE PSS;

30% matching fee waiver from UoG)

- £500 bursary for study materials

- Outside mentor

- Work experience

• Open to Home students

- First/Upper second class UG degree

- Financial means test

RESEARCH

• Main research objectives:

- To understand key constraints/enablers to continued study at PGT level

- To assess the impact on employment outcomes for those who complete the

scheme.

- To assess any impact on perception of employers of PGT students

• Dissemination - Project micro-site on UoG website

- Two project events to showcase findings

• Details of scheme defined

• Marketing material prepared

• Scheme marketed through three main channels

- Presentations to Y3 UG students

• Over 100 applications so far.
