GENRE

Comedy

There are many different forms of comedy based on the subject and situation that the comedy is situated on. Comedy can be based around an individual and the humour to be found in that individual’s life and personality, usually this is based on standard stereotypes of society. Comedy looks at everyday life and usually points out the silliness of situations we encounter all the time in our daily lives.

STRUCTURE

Jokes have to have a certain structure. In order to ensure laughs, the audience has to believe what you’re talking about before you introduce the laugh. That is one of the most challenging parts of comedy. You’re going to want to have honest set-ups and honest but exaggerated punchlines. You see, a joke starts out so logical, with a comedian saying something that we all know, but then can turn it into something so different that it allows for a laugh. The rules of humour are analogous to those of poetry. These common rules are mainly timing, precision, synthesis, and rhythm.
