Due to your generosity and prayers, we have been able to accomplish much in Nyanza and Western Provinces in the Lake Victoria region of Western Kenya. Last February we visited a town called Timau near Nyeri north of Nairobi. There we stayed with Sister Joanne of the Franciscan Order where she is the head of a school that teaches pre-school children as well as senior citizens how to read and write. Later on in the journey, we carried that infor- mation to Mbaka Oromo Primary School in Maseno, Kenya for the school commu- nity's tailoring IGLA (Income Generating Learning Activity). One of our major efforts on this trip was to establish IGLAs at all of our schools. We are happy to report that we are in various stages of completion at three sites. The handa school community chose horticulture and are already harvesting tomatoes and kale. Lufumbo and handa are currently building shelters for two goat breeding stations and planting crops to feed the dairy goats. We were also able to visit Christ the King Parish in Katito, south of Kisumu. Christ the King is the future location of Hannah's Hope. Hannah's Hope is an Early Childhood Center in honor of Hannah Congdon and her friends Katie Shirley, Bailey Goodman, Meredith McClure and Sara Monnat. Off of Lake Victoria is a remote island named Mageta. where we were able to see the devastation to the families of those left behind by the death of relatives due to HIV/AIDS. Everlyn showed us her report card; a brilliant mind who couldn't further her education. One of our travel mates, Christine Buckley couldn't let this happen and is now sponsoring Everlyn for her 4 years of high school. Events like this happen every day in Kenya. The needs are so I!reat and your kindness I!oes so far. We visited all of our 37 scholarship students, supervised school construction on three sites and made connections with organizations such as Kisumu Children's Remand Home that is a safe-haven for children who are found on the streets of Kisumu.
