More than 20 people comprise the
new Leadership Monadnock cohort
that met for the first time in early
October at Stonewall Farm. Over
the coming months, they will meet
in various places around the region,
becoming familiar with what makes
this area so special…and learning
about some of the economic, social and cultural challenges and op-
portunities we encounter as people who work and live in the region.
They’re a great group! If you know someone you think might be
interested in being part of a future cohort, or if it seems like some-
thing you might like to do someday, let us know – info@keenecham-
ber.com – we will add names to a list and contact you when we know
when future dates are finalized.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Many of our monthly Business-After-Hours events take place in
Keene, so it’s always fun to visit some of our many members in
surrounding communities – in this case, to make the short drive
to YMCA Camp Takodah in Richmond for October’s after-hours
gathering. While there were fewer people there than there are some
months, several of those attending commented about how well
they were able to network with their peers. The Camp is a 500 acre
gem – not only a wonderful spot for kids and families in the warmer
months…it’s also a terrific venue for weddings, corporate retreats,
and other gatherings. For more information about the camp, and
what they offer, contact them at [email protected].
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Thanks again to Impact Monadnock for a terrific Regional Issues
Series forum in October about early childhood development, and
its connection to a sustainable workforce for our regional economy.
Nearly 150 people attended this session which highlighted, among
other things, how much of the brain’s development is in the first 2-3
years of life. Impact Monadnock will be meeting with many of the
early childhood development stakeholders who participated in this
forum this month to identify and promote effective follow-up actions.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The Regional Issues Series we launched in September has been very
well received – by Chamber members, not-yet members, government
officials, and the media. It’s important to continue to emphasize that
the purpose of the series is primarily to raise awareness about the
various “backbone” public policy issues and economic development
challenges we face in the Monadnock Region. As awareness is raised,
and understanding of the complexities and nuances of the issues
becomes more widely understood, we hope that Chamber members
and others will become engaged in efforts to address the issues on a
regular basis, and directly advocate on issues they deem to be impor-
tant to the future economic vitality of the region. We at the Cham-
ber, including our Programs & Public Policy Committee, remain
committed to presenting interesting additional forums in the month
ahead. Among the topics we’re working on are: Digital Infrastructure
(high-speed internet); Transportation; and Energy.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The ad hoc group – which includes the Greater Keene Chamber of
Commerce – working on how to approach branding the Monadnock
Region continues to meet and will, in the months ahead, be focused
on inviting regional travel and tourism stakeholders to agree on an
approach that will give this initiative a home, and commit organiza-
tional support to it.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Finally, the Chamber is among several groups convened by the City of
Keene that has met several times in recent months to discuss whether
there might be community support for a new kind of “fall festival”
– possibly beginning in 2016. The group is reaching out to a wider
community audience this month for its input. We’ll keep you posted.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you enjoy our FULL-COLOR printed newsletter! Thanks to the Keene Sentinel Print Shop’s new digital printer, we were able to upgrade to color printing for a reasonable cost. While many organizations have moved away from print, we have deter-mined, from discussions within the Marketing Committee and with members in general, that a print version of the newsletter is still valuable.
The newsletter is also easier to find on our website with a link right on the home page. As our integrated marketing continues to evolve and more emphasis is placed on digital delivery, we are going to be making some changes in the coming year, including additional advertising and business promotional opportunities on our upgraded website.
Beginning in January 2016, Outlook News will be published six times a year. The January/February issue will be distributed at the beginning of January, March/April at the beginning of March, etc. Please keep this in mind when submitting event informa-tion. Remember that you can always post an event on our online calendar. If you need assistance please let us know.
In the coming year, we will continue to help members become more familiar and adept with digital marketing opportunities. Our goal is to provide marketing value and support that meets your needs!

Northeast Energy Direct
AFFORDABLE ELECTRIC RATESNew England’s pipeline capacity has not kept pace with the rapid growth of natural gas-fired electric power generation capacity.
According to ISO New England, New Englanders paid over $7 billion more for electricity during the
winters of 2013/14 and 2014/15 than what they paid for electricity during the winter of 2011/12, largely
as a result of the existing lack of pipeline capacity servicing the region. Independent studies have
concluded that the New England region will require projects like Northeast Energy Direct (NED) to meet
these existing and future supply requirements and drive down the cost of electricity in the Granite State.
NH’S ENERGY CRISISNew England’s families and businesses currently pay the hiqhest prices for natural gas in the continental United States, yet an abundant supply of low cost natural gas is only 300 miles away.
New Hampshire’s 2014 fuel costs were the highest in the nation. The Northeast Energy Direct Pipeline
(NED) will provide New Hampshire with additional access to lower costing, clean, abundant and domestic
natural gas supplies enabling the development of gas distribution systems to serve communities.
