What we like about our job

“Watching technology being used to enhance learning.”

“Learning cool things for my own students' lessons and then having my students tell their other teachers, so that the chain effect continues.”

Watching technology being used to enhance learning.

Just being able to try new tech tools in the classroom.

The engagement of the children and their motivation to learn!

Every day has been different

What we like about our job

“Being able to keep learning new technology and being able to share it with others.”

“I love how engage students get when you incorporate technology into a lesson.”

“Being on the cutting edge and introducing new concepts to both students and staff.”

I like the new technology that makes my teaching more effective and my job easier.

“Exploring new ways to deliver curriculum and thinking outside the box to find solutions to the roadblocks we run up against.”

Your responses: Challenges

Time/”Finding time to work with teachers”

“Motivating teachers to learn without bribing them with CEUs after school. I guess I thought they would love it as much as I do.”

“Staying current and getting useful professional development.”

Money

“Not enough time and administration, school board and coworkers don't truly understand the position. They feel you are "playing" when trying to explore a program or app. No budget for paid apps.”

Getting everyone to buy into changing their ways

Your responses: Challenges

“One of the biggest challenges as a technology integration specialist is to build a working relationship with coworkers so that they are comfortable asking questions. Another challenge is finding ideas to integrate technology in a manner that does not create more work for staff.”

“Not enough iPads - we would like 1 to 1 but only have 36! This makes the management difficult because students have to share.”

“The biggest challenge that we face in our district is an infrastructure that can't support the demands of all of the devices we plan on implementing in the very near future.”

“Trying to define what it is I'm supposed to be doing on any given day. Feels like working without a curriculum at the moment.”

How I have doing this job…

Depend on others – Cohorts, KIC, High Users

Lobbying for support from our administrators

Build trust with the teachers

Be timely

Be willing to learn along with the teacher and make it clear that you are learning along with him or her

Determine the need

Communicate with staff, but not too much

What advice would you give your fellow technology integrationists?

“Start with a couple of teachers who thirst for more information and have them share with their departments. And if you are lucky enough to have a class or 2, try out your ideas with them first. They can bail you out!!”

“Take baby steps. Technology can be scary and overwhelming to teachers who already have too much on their plate. Make things something that they can use now.”

“Network, network, network. Finding a way to connect with other people doing the same things you are is invaluable.”

“Stay organized.”

My goals as a Tech Integrationist…

*I stole this, but it makes sense to me

1. Make sure the technology is workingA. In my case it was get them the technology

2. Try to show that the help I will provide them will A. Save them time in the end

B. Help students engagement, and learning

3. Then I show them what they could do.A. It really has to come from them

Success will happen…

When you start small

When the teachers seek you out

When the administration supports you

When you pick the ones that you know will be successful and make the others jealous

Professional development model that fits into a schedule
