From the Creative Director
I am thrilled to welcome you to the Celebration Singers’ third season! Our season opens with a Christmas concert where you’ll hear all of your favorite carols as well as a few new ones that bring a unique sound with a percussionist for two of the songs.
I am most excited about our second concert in March when the choir takes on John Rutter’s Requiem, accompanied by an ensemble of seven instruments and featuring a soprano soloist. This beautiful contemporary work is quite challenging, but I belive the choir is ready to stretch their talents.
Season ends with the annual Singers’ Choice concert. This is my gift to my loyal singers, giving them the opportunity to chose the music they want to sing. Our past Singers’ Choice concerts have had a variety of music genres, and judging by the requests that have already been submitted, this season’s selections will also showcase a wide range of styles.

Welcome to our 2012/13 season
Welcome to the 2012-2013 season of the Celebration Singers.
As both the President of the Board and as a singer in the chorus, I am afforded a dual perspective of this unique choral group. Celebration Singers combines a great passion for music with a firm commitment to service. Founded in 2010, we are an auditioned, service-based community chorus as well as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization which offers financial support to carefully selected charitable organizations. Full descriptions of the four charities chosen for the 2012-2013 season can be found on page five of the program. All donations collected at our concerts will be divided between these outstanding organizations. As we begin our third year of seasonal concerts and reflect back on all we have accomplished the past two years, I am reminded that the possibilities are endless when dedicated people work together toward a shared vision. Going forward, our future holds great promise as this vision gains both clarity and depth. It has been an honor and privilege to work with such a wonderful group of individuals who share their time and talents with the chorus, the audience, and the entire community. On behalf of the Celebration Singers and the Board of Directors, I invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the program.

Behind the music
Terry StackleyCreative Director
Terry hails from the Baltimore region, and attended school in Westminster, MD at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). She arrived in Northern Virginia in 1995 and has since lived in Woodbridge. In 1998 she became the Music Director for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Woodbridge, a position she held for twelve years. She subsequently formed the Celebration Singers, an auditioned community chorus, in the summer of 2010.
Terry’s music background includes solo work for the church. She also has sung with the Ron Freeman Chorale, under the direction of Ron Freeman, and is currently a member of the Metropolitan Chorus, under the direction of Barry Hemphill. Terry has studied choral conducting under Rodney Eichenberger, and was mentored by her beloved friend Pat Siviski. Additionally, she has sung under such notable choral conductors as John Rutter, David Willcocks and Stan Engebretson. Terry is a member of the American Choral Director’s Association.
Laura Riski Accompanist
Laura has been a teacher and accompanist since 1975. She has a Bachelor of Music degree from Miami University of Ohio and a Professional Studies degree in Piano Pedagogy from the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC. After becoming a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association of Music (MTNA) in 2003, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at George Mason University. Since completing her advanced degree in 2008, she has been teaching privately In Montclair, VA, and has been the Celebration Singers accompanist since 2010.

All donations will be distributed evenly between these four oustanding charities.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary organization in Alzheimer’s care and
support, and it is the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research. It is committed to progressing new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure. The local chapter is based in Fairfax, VA. www.alz.org/nca
ACTS, or Action in the Community through Service, has served Prince William County residents since 1969. Their mission is to alleviate hunger, homelessness, and domestic violence in our area through emergency assistance,
homeless shelters and a domestic violence intervention. www.actspwc.org
The Kara Foundation, was founded in 2008 in memory of
local resident Kara Lalumiere who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2006 at the age of 23. Recognizing the hardships young adults with cancer face when travelling to undergo treatment at cancer hospitals, the Foundation provides them and their family support. Presently they are involved in a long-term project with Johns Hopkins called “Kara’s Place.” www.foundationforkara.org
MusicLink is a national organization with a local chapter based in Arlington, VA. MusicLink gives musically inclined
children in need the opportunity to study music with professional, volunteer teachers. They also provide musical instruments and scholarships for these young musicians to develop their full potential. www.musiclinkfoundation.org
