  • JOIE DE VIVRE CHOIR STUART SLADDEN, CONDUCTORJoie de Vivre choir welcomed Stuart Sladden as choir conductor in 2018 following his return to the Winnipeg music scene after some years in Edmonton, where he has completed a Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Alberta. He currently sings with the Winnipeg Singers, conducts the Bison Men’s Chorus, the Rochester Ringers, the Good Neighbours Choristers and the U of M Concert Choir, teaches at the Faculty of Music at University of Manitoba and at the International Music Camp, and is the Vice President of the Manitoba Choral Association.

Stuart came to this city from Toronto to study for his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at University of Manitoba. His undergraduate studies, from both Humber College and the University of Toronto, focused on vocal jazz. While in Edmonton for his studies, Stuart was also active as a musician with affiliations to the Richard Eaton Singers (Assistant Conductor), the Da Camera Singers (Assistant Conductor), and the Accord Ensemble (Artistic Director), along with singing occasionally with Pro Coro Canada.

Stuart is also an active clinician and guest conductor across Canada, with guest appearances this season in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Ontario, and had the privilege of being the Canadian representative adjudicator at a major music festival in Hong Kong this past May.

Stuart is happy to be back in Winnipeg and is excited to be working with Joie de Vivre!

ELIZABETH SADLERElizabeth Sadler joined the Joie de Vivre choir as an assistant conductor this fall. Before her recent training in conducting, Elizabeth is a trained jazz vocalist. She performs at corporate events, with church choirs and is the lead singer of a 70s funk/soul group called Flatland Soul Band. Elizabeth was part of the 2019 TD Winnipeg Jazz Festival this past summer. In 2016 she graduated with an Associates of Applied Arts degree (A.A.A.) in Professional Music from Southwestern Community College in Iowa. She is currently finishing her Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree at the University of Manitoba. Through performing and teaching music, she strives to add momentum, excitement and growth to her life and the lives of others.

    O. KOSHETZ CHOIRThe O. Koshetz Choir sings almost exclusively in Ukrainian. The Choir is celebrating its seventy-fourth anniversary this year. Olexander Koshetz, a world-renowned choral conductor and composer, was exiled from Soviet Ukraine in the 1920’s, and Winnipeg’s Ukrainian community invited him in 1939 to come and teach music to their children. Koshetz died here in Winnipeg after an all-too-brief stay,

MIROSLAVA PACHES, CONDUCTORMiroslava Paches was named director of Koshetz Choir in June 2007, bringing both her youthful vigour and her excellent experience and credentials to open a new chapter in the life of the choir. Graduating from the Lviv State Music Academy (Theory, Composition, Musicianship), she completed earlier studies at the Uzhorod State Music College (Majors in Piano, Choral Conducting, and Music Theory). In addition to Koshetz choir, Miroslava conducts both the adult and children’s choirs at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. She creates new compositions and arrangements for all her choirs, heard in celebration of the liturgy and in concert. She maintains a very active private music studio, teaching piano, voice, and theory, with numerous successful entries in the Winnipeg Music Festival. She is married to Maxim Paches, and has three musical young sons, Stepan, Yaroslav, and Alexander, and an even younger daughter, Veera.
