John RAY and Louisa FULLER 1 JOHN RAY AND LOUISA FULLER John RAY was probably born on 10 th August 1797 at St Mary’s Parish Nottingham, England to John RAY and Hannah KEFFIN. 1 John RAY was transported on 1 st July 1821 on “Lord Hungerford” and arrived on 26 th December 1821. His native place is listed as Nottinghamshire. Wife and one child at New Buildings, Nottingham with father and mother. He was caught stealing cotton stockings and lace and tried at Nottingham on 30 th April 1821. 2 His convict record ( No. 251) describes him as: 5 ft 4 inches. Hair light brown, eyes grey Age 24. Trade: Frame work, Knitter. Marks left arm crucifixion, Sun, Moon and Garden Pot. Right arm Adam and Eve and other figures. 3 He worked in Tasmania at a property called Jericho for Mr Whitchurch. 4 He worked as a gardener. His convict record states: Sept 1824: At Whitechurch riding in a cart drawn by bullocks without reins to guide them. Fined 10/- 22 June 1826 At Whitechurch striking a dog belonging to Sam Hyams. Charge dismissed. 27 July 1826 At Whitechurch having in his possession one dollar. Charge dismissed. 29 May 1831 Violently assaulting and stealing from Timothy Murphy. 29 October 1835 At Roper, drunk on the Sabbath and insolence to his master. Three months in irons. 19 Sep 1838 Charged with harbouring cons Duxberry and the female he had in charge. John RAY was probably born on 10th

August 1797 at St Mary’s Parish Nottingham, England to

John RAY and Hannah KEFFIN. 1

John RAY was transported on 1st July 1821 on “Lord Hungerford” and arrived on 26

th December

1821.

His native place is listed as Nottinghamshire. Wife and one child at New Buildings, Nottingham

with father and mother.

He was caught stealing cotton stockings and lace and tried at Nottingham on 30th

April 1821. 2

His convict record ( No. 251) describes him as:

They married on 16th

July 1838.

They were married in St Davids Church. The marriage certificate indicates that John was a

Ticket of Leave and Louisa was a convict. Neither could write.7

Louisa FULLER was born on 18 April 1815, at Aldgate, England.Aged nineteen years, she came

out to Sydney on the “David Scott” from England on 3 October 1834, as an assigned servant to

Charles Coulston, White House Windsor Road, NSW ( possibly an inn). Louisa was sent from

Allgate prison.

Louisa FULLER arrived in Van Diemens Land on the brig “Siren” on 12 May 1835 from

Parramatta. She had been sent from Sydney, after being sentenced to seven years for receiving

stolen goods. 8

Louisa died 22 August 1890 at New Town Charitable Institution, later St John’s Park Hospital.

with her sister Susan. Ellen was possibly married previously to Seymour.

Died 18 Oct 1896.

Wallar a policeman on 30th

April 1860. Witnesses were Charles Lee and Matilda Beans.
