Produced by Neil Ferguson - producer for Chumbawamba, New ModelArmy, Coope, Boyes & Simpson, Steve Tilston, Roy Bailey, O'Hooley &

Tidow, Tracey Curtis and Robb Johnson the new album features guest

appearances from members of Chumbawamba, The Wedding Present and

Cud.

bleeding edge/distant past features an outstanding set of acoustic

songs by this critically-acclaimed singer songwriter. The album explores the

themes of lost love and regret, births, lullabies and film stars, ending with

songs about writing a hit song plus one that may or may not be about

Greek ships...

On previous release Illegal Songs, Parkes pronounced himself theinstigator of a Second Golden Age of

Protest - though his songs tackled

subjects from the conventional

wisdom about personal relationships

to the insanity of modern economics.

Parkes set out to say the un-sayable

and said it with incisive wit and

wisdom.

A less confrontational affair, and the

first John Parkes album release in

some time, bleeding edge/distantpast focuses mainly on songs of

sex, sympathy and sorrow; tales of love, life, loss, lust, regret and

relationships but starts off with a lullaby.

John Parkes has fronted a number of groups much beloved by night-time BBC Radio One DJs including the late

and legendary John Peel, who played something from every record John made over a period of 14 years, and

Janice Long, Mark Radcliffe, Mary-Ann Hobbs and Gideon Coe. Bands in which he has participated include cult

indie guitar heroes The CHORUS, GREENHOUSE, FUZZBIRD, THE SINISTER CLEANERS and latterly WHOLE SKY

MONITOR. WSM, as they are also known, were enthusiastically championed by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio

One and received considerable airplay across Europe for a recent single.
