and ased the question I didnt want to hear

How did you become homeless?

By now, most people have heard my story o being on the streets

o Dallas in the late 1970s and struggling in poverty in Houston or

many years ater that.

But I had never explained exactly hwI ended up in such dire

circumstances. When I answered the question at dinner, everyone at

the table stared at me. The woman who ased the question sat there

with her mouth open and eyes un-blining.

She ased, Why have you never said this beore?

My riend Mar Ryan was sitting there, also staring, and said,

As long as Ive nown you, youve never told this story beore. Its

riveting. This changes everything.

Changes everything?Riveting?

They all said I had to tell the story now.

Given the current nancial crisis and with people losing their

homes and their jobs, this story needs to be told more than ever

beore, Mar said.

I heard them and realied I agreed.

So heres the story

I new I wanted to be an author when I was a teenager. I wantedto write boos and plays that made people happy. Everywhere I looed

I saw unhappy people. I believed I could help them with humor and

stories.

During that time o the mid-1970s, I watched sports. I dont today

but bac then the Dallas Cowboys were the rage. Roger Staubach and

Tom Landry were heroes. I got caught up in the excitement and eltthe place or me to mae my name was in Dallas, Texas.

I lived in Ohio at the time. Born and raised there. I wored on

the railroad as a tracman, doing heavy labor all day long, woring

weeends and summers rom the age o ve.

I saved my money, paced up my bag, and too a bus to Dallas. It

too three days to get there. I was lost in the big city, o course. Being

raised in a small town in Ohio didnt prep me or the hustle and bustle

o a city the sie o Dallas.Beore long, I wanted out.

But I still wanted to be an author.

At that time major companies were building oil and gas pipelines

in Alasa and the Middle East, and oering to pay big bucs i you

were willing to go to either place. I wasnt een on going to a oreign

country and doing more labor, but I saw a chance to mae money, save

it, and then go on a sabbatical where I could write or a ew months or

even a year. It seemed lie a brilliant strategy.

I answered one o the newspaper ads that promised to get

me pipeline wor at an extraordinary hourly wage. I went to their com-

panys oce, met an upbeat sales person, and ended up giving him all

o my money my entire savings, about $1,000 based on his promise

that Id have overseas pipeline wor in a wee or two. You might guess

part o what happened next but you wont guess all o it.

Within a wee or so, the company that too all o my money

went out o business. Their doors were closed, no one answered the

phone, and no orwarding addresses could be ound. Shortly aterthat, the company went banrupt. And not long ater that, the owner

o the company committed suicide. There was no one let to try to get

my money bac.

I was alone.

I was broe.

I was in Dallas, ar rom home.

I coness that my ego got in the way here. My amily bac in

Ohio would have taen me bac in and welcomed me bac home. ButI was head strong and determined to somehow survive.

Well, I did survive by sleeping in church pews, on the steps o

a post oce, and in a bus station. It wasnt an easy time, as you can

imagine, and I never used to tal about it. It was too embarrassing.

Grasping the Glden Ring


When I told this story at dinner, everyone agreed I had to share

it with you. They said that people are nding themselves in the same

situation they trusted a government, or a corporation, or a person,or a ban, and now they are losing their homes and their jobs.

Hearing that I went through the same thing three decades ago

and not only survived but prospered to a level that the Joe Vitale o 30

years ago could hardly imagine, ought to be inspiring to you, too.

I got o the streets and out o poverty by constantly woring

on mysel reading sel-help boos, taing action, scrambling at

times by taing whatever wor I could nd, but always always always

ocusing on my vision: to one day be an author o boos that helpedpeople be happy and stay inspired. Along the way, I created the seven

steps Im going to reveal to you in this boo.

I youre in a place right now that doesnt eel so good or seem

too sae, I urge you to remind yoursel that this is only temporary. As I

say in my boo, The Attractr Factr, this is simply current reality, and

current reality can change. You can help it along by doing what you

now and need to do. (You always now what you need to do. Its a

matter o actually dingit.)

But remember, the sun will shine again.

It always does.

Your job right now is to ocus on what you want and eep it

in sight.

Yes, eep taing action;

yes, stay positive and surround yoursel with positive people;

yes, be o support to others.

But remember, i I or anyone else can survive homelessness,

poverty, job loss, or any other hard time, thenyu can survive it too.Please hang in there.

One last thing:

I admit that there were times I wanted to throw in the towel and

get mysel out o this lie. Than God I stuc around. Had I let early,

I would have missed a lie o magic and wonder, success and ame I

had never dreamed o beore, priceless relationships and experiences,

and much more.

I have no idea what wonderul good is headed your way andneither do you. What you have to do is stay the course and ollow

your heart. Ive written the seven steps in this boo to help you attract

money now. I now what its lie to struggle, and I now what its lie

to succeed.

So let me tell you how to change your lie...

Ive traveled a great deal in the last couple o years since the

beginning o whats been called the worst recession since the Great

Depression in the 1930s and I spea to thousands o people about

how to attract what they really want in lie. Even those who were

septical are now much more interested in nding out how to attract

wealth. People are being laid o or losing their jobs, while their homes

and assets have been slashed in value, and are now eager to hear what

I have to say. Those that once ound it easy to be positive and upbeatabout their uture are now rightened and unsure.

Whats the solution to all this?

Ive spent a great deal o time and developed many programs to

help people nd joy, happiness and nancial reedom in their lives.

However, many people have decided to sit on the sidelines until now.

They elt their lives were ne, their relationships oay, and their career

or business good. They didnt eel the need to try anything new or

dierent. They were close-minded. Now its a dierent world. The lives

o literally millions o people have reached a critical juncture. They

eel as i theyre running out o options and searching or anything

that will help even i they used to thin it was a little too ar out o

the ordinary or them.

Just writing that maes me smile because I was once one o

the most septical, negative people around. I didnt have a dime to

my name, a roo over my head and Id borrow money rom anyone

and everyone that I could with no clue how I would pay it bac. The

interesting thing was that this happened in the 1970s and early 1980sas the oil maret cratered and unemployment syroceted.

Sounds a little amiliar, doesnt it?

I now what its lie to be unable to even imagine a uture or

yoursel as everything that you thought you believed in crumbles

around you. Bac in those days, I would grit my teeth as the taling

heads o the day discussed peoples worries over how they would retire

or when peoples assets would recover their value. And here I was just

hoping I could nd some way to pay or ood!Each morning during that horrible time, I would see the same

dejected, hopeless expression in my eyes in the mirror the very same

expression I see on many people today. Though I understand how

they eel, and how you may be eeling about your nancial situation, I

now that with tremendous struggle and hardship comes tremendous

opportunities.

What?!Opportunity???

I now youve heard that beore and might not have taen the

idea seriously, but its true. As humans, we tend to foat along doing

whats easiest or most amiliar. We stay in our comort one. It may be

lousy, but at least its nown. Its not until we are plunged into turmoil

that we begin evaluating our lives and then, and only then, are our

minds nally open to change.

I now this because thats what happened to me. I I hadnt beenhomeless and nancially destitute, I might have trudged along living

a boring, average lie or the next ew decades. But things were just

awul. I couldnt eep going the same way. It wasnt woring and it

was obvious even to someone as stubborn and hardheaded as I was

at that time.

Financial hardship has a way o beating the pride out o you.

Unortunately, it also destroys your sel-condence and you become

convinced you are hopeless. This is where the real problem lies. You

no longer believe in anything. Not in yoursel, not in your ability to

overcome, not in the nowledge that tomorrow is another chance.

You lose hope.

I can tell you rom my own experience that this lac o belie

isnt about reality its about perception. Just because you have less

money in your pocet than the next person, doesnt mae you less o

a person but it can mae you eel that way. When everything around

you seems to be altering, it is hard to see the good. But that doesnt

mean the good isnt there. Opportunities are all around you. It onlytaes one to change the course o your lie completely.

Now, you may be thining, I couldnt attract money i you

slathered me with honey and rolled me through a ban vault! But

that isnt reality. Anyone can attract wealth into their lives i they

choose. It maes no dierence what the economic conditions are or

what the stoc maret is doing. In act, the entire world could be in

chaotic meltdown mode and you could still attract money!

Dont believe me?

the Proo o history

You may have heard the saying that millionaires are made during

economic downturns. Many millionaires were created during the

Great Depression. There is no question it was the worst time or many

people, but did that mean all the opportunities dried up too? NO!

In act, thousands o people became millionaires. And bac then amillion dollars went much urther than it does today.

Over the last 100 years people have proven repeatedly that

attracting money has nothing to do with having the right education

or nowing the right people. It has everything to do with your mind

and your belies about money. Ive said it many times but it bears

repeating: i you arent doing as well as you lie, the only person

standing in the way is the one you loo at in the mirror every day.

I you allow septicism and negativity to dominate your thoughts itwill soon devastate your ban account. Money will always match your

mindset.

Remember that:Money will always match your mindset.

Contrary to popular belie, an economic downturn is a good time

to start a business. Start-up costs are much lower in a recession than in

boom periods. Savvy entrepreneurs thin about what people will need

as the economy improves and then position themselves to provide

those goods or services. It is also true that many poorly run businesses

close during a recession and their equipment and assets can be bought

at re-sale prices or pennies on the dollar. Commercial rents become

inexpensive and there are many worers available as unemployment

rises. This allows or many opportunities.

A good example o this is a man I met a ew years ago named

David. He was woring construction doing small odd jobs around

the neighborhood. Ater a ew conversations I learned that he was

actually a trained che whod been laid o a ew years earlier rom a

local country club. He decided that the only way he would be trulyhappy was to open his own restaurant. His seemingly insurmountable

challenge was that he couldnt aord the $200,000 it would tae to

open a new restaurant. His amily was in the construction business, so

he wored in it as well. This allowed him to earn a decent living and

save or his dream a Jamaican inspired restaurant. I encouraged

him to stay ocused on his dream and opportunities would present

themselves to mae it happen.

A ew months ago I ran into David again and ased how thingswere going. He was so excited he could hardly tal ast enough! One

o the customers hes done some construction wor or had some

vacant commercial property in a prime location. It had recently been

a restaurant that ultimately went under. All the equipment, dishes and

xtures had been abandoned in the building. The man told David that

i hed x it up and reopen, he could have the rst years rent ree and

the next two years o rent at a substantial discount.Needless to say, Davids construction experience came in handy.

He remodeled the interior and within two months, opened his dream

restaurant, which made money rom day one due to the low overhead.

Would this opportunity have appeared in a boom economy? Probably

not. It may not even have happened i David hadnt shared his dream

with all his construction customers. David ocused on that dream, and

when the time was right everything came together to mae his dream

a success.Just lie business owners in the Depression era, those who open

themselves to opportunity today are going to attract money! Right

nwwhile youre reading this. Its happening constantly and could

be happening to you, but it will only happen i you dont let ear

overwhelm you. Every time I see or hear something negative about the

economy, I immediately thin Well, that doesnt apply to me. Thats

because I now how to attract money.

When I tal about past recessions and the opportunities they

presented, someone will usually say, But things are dierent now.

My response is that they are and they arent. Yes, we live in a dierent

environment than past generations. Technology has made our lives

easier and more complicated at the same time and it has also brought

us more opportunity. These days you can start a business rom your

computer, you dont physically have to go nd a maret or open a

bric and mortar store as people in the past did.

One o my avorite stories is o Ashley Qualls a sel-made

millionaire beore she was out o her teens. Ashley, who was only 16at the time, started a website called whateverlie.com rom her home

in Michigan. She wanted to help her riends get cool layouts or their

MySpace pages and provide her riends with easy to understand HTML

tutorials.

When she started her website, she gave all the designs or ree. She

earned her money rom the advertising revenue. It was a very simple

concept. Ashley saw the need and wanted ids her age to be able to

get really nice page designs or ree. The website now receives severaltimes more trac than most circulations o popular teen magaines

including Seventeen, Teen, Vgue! - combined.

Bac in 2006, someone tried to buy whateverlie.com rom her

or $1,500,000 and she turned down the oer. In September 2006,

Ashley attracted enough money to buy a home or $250,000 cash.

She wors out o her basement employing amily and riends and is

attracting money every day.

We Love chaos

When I say that you can attract money into your lie right now,

I cant tell you the number o people who thin that means they can

sit on the couch sipping margaritas while money miraculously fies in

their window and lands in their lap. This is nthow it wors.

In order to attract money into your lie, you must ollow the

seven steps I have laid out in this boo and not one o them says tosit on the couch and wait. Attracting money requires action and ocus;

these cant be pushed aside or compromised. Unortunately, humans

are chaos magnets so unless we tae the necessary steps to change

our lives, we will attract obstacles and problems blocing our path to

success.

Ive also had people criticie me or presenting a program that

ocuses on attracting money. The truth is that most o my programs

ocus on attracting wealth as a whole. The dierence between wealth

and money is that wealth is what you have let when you dont have

any money or your money has been taen.

Thin about it. You may have a wealth o love, wealth in your

spiritual lie, or many other avenues that dont have anything to

do with physical cash in the ban. Money, on the other hand, is

your oundation or getting by in your daily lie. It is your resource.

Without money, or some sort o resource to survive, you cant ocus

on attaining wealth in any other area o your lie.

But money is just a rststep in achieving a better lie, ultimatelyhelping you to become more spiritual.

I can vouch or this personally. When you dont have wor or

and once you have that stable oundation it allows you to pursue

those higher ideals. Money is needed and money is good. As youll see

money. Money is just a tool. A useul one, but just a tool nonetheless.

It is truly the human condition to nd problems, create them,

and/or attract them. Even when you resolve a problem, you almost

instantly ll the gap with another one. We do this without evenrealiing it. You have to understand that as one problem disappears,

another bubbles up to tae its place. Thats how the human mind

wors. Some people lie drama and chaos more than others, but we all

seem to attract problems simply out o human habit. Its our current

nature. Its our program. And many o our problems revolve around

money.

To paraphrase Buddha lie is suering, but once you realie that

lie is suering, you no longer have to suer. You are ree. At that pointyou realie that lie is a theatrical experience and you are just playing

your part in the script. You are detached. You are, in many respects,

awaened. Yes, we are problem-maing beings but you can also detach

rom the experience o the problems. You can witness them. You can

watch them as i watching a soap opera on television.

I oten see this in airports during delays. Theres always someone

who loses their mind and rants and raves. Will this mae the plane

tae o aster? No. Will he get there beore me? No. Does he love

chaos and drama? Yes. I can sit and view the scene with detachment

because I now that delays are part o the game. It is what it is but

many people havent discovered that yet.

A problem to one person may be a blessing to another. It depends

on your intention, which directs your perspective. So where is the real

problem? Is there even a problem at all? Dr. Hew Len, my co-author o

the boo Zer Limits, oten ass, Have you ever noticed that whenever

there is a problem, you are always there? He means that the problem

is yours yours in perception and yours in responsibility. Clear thebelies in you that see it as a problem and the problem disappears.

Poo!

Your perception about money determines whether it is a git or

problem. The choice is in your mind.

I recently met a young couple, both surgical techs at a local

hospital, that were acing a oreclosure on their home. The husband,

kenny, said hed been in a state o depression or wees and unable to

see any options. I ased, Options or what?He replied, Options to eep our home.

Why are you so convinced those are the only options?

He stared at me or a while lie Id grown a horn on my orehead.

But a home is just a thing nothing more, nothing less. His emotional

attachment to that home was altering his perspective. There are many

options and opportunities that we encounter every day, but we are so

sure that only one type o option or opportunity will wor that wedont even consider any other possibilities. This doesnt mean its easy.

kenny and his wie wanted a solution that included rescuing their

home rom oreclosure. I ased, What would happen i you lost the

home. Then what?

He thought or a moment. Wed have to start over.

And what would that loo lie?

Again he thought. Well we could relocate to an area with higher

pay as our hours have recently been cut at the hospital.His wie chimed in, We could even become traveling techs who

earn even more money since we wouldnt have a house to hold us

here.

As they taled, ideas fowed. Within an hour, they were

convinced that losing this home was perhaps the best thing that

could happen to them as it had prevented them rom pursuing

other opportunities that would have attracted much more money.

They had been so caught up in the drama and chaos o the oreclosure

that they hadnt looed at it objectively, in a detached manner.

Once they removed all the negative emotions they attached to the

event, they were able to thin o many good things that would come

rom it.

When you ace a problem or challenge in your lie, its only a

problem because you arent accepting what you have, and are ocused

on what you want with a eeling o lac or desperation. You need to

be grateul or what you have now andwant more. When you do that

with awareness and detachment, the issue isnt really a problem, itsjust your next activity. When you tae the edge o your stress, you

can more clearly see your next move.

Let me explain.

money is in the minD

Ive always nown that the idea o money is in the mind. Most

money is just a piece o paper or coin that only means something to

the one giving and the one receiving. It is an agreed upon exchangeo value. This is a very important idea to eep in mind. Oten, when

people thin o attracting money, they thin o cash they can tae to

the ban. While cash is included, it also includes things o value that

come in rom other sources.

For example, when David wanted to open his restaurant, the oer

o a ree years rent is just as good as cash in the ban, because it was

money he didnt have to spend. Im always amaed at the gits andother things that just seem to fow to me eortlessly. Its not always

money. Sometimes it may be my expenses paid to visit exotic places

lie Peru where I can stand on the ancient stone steps o Machu

Picchu and have a great experience. Other times it might be a git

that arrives unexpectedly lie a beautiul handmade leather bag I once

received.

When you thin o attracting money, thin o attracting anything

o value that will enhance your lie. Not only do I experience thismysel, I hear about these types o gits all the time through my blog or

through email, as others are learning to attract money or themselves.

While you may thin that we are on a currency system, many things

can still be acquired through trade or agreement without any exchange

o money at all. This opens new realms o possibilities.

The idea that money is in the mind highlights the act that what

you eel, thin and now about money, determines your ability to

attract it. Again, money matches your mindset. Many o us have had

a tumultuous relationship with money over the years. Once I nally

gured out that the issues I ept struggling with were my own creation

(due to the belies and perceptions I had), then I nally opened the

foodgates and let money pour into my lie.

Im oten approached by individuals saying, I dont want to

now about that mumbo-jumbo Law o Attraction stu, just tell me

how to mae money!

How do you expect to attract money i you dont understand

how to do it? Just lie happiness, you cant pursue money. I you do,you will become a slave to the pursuit. The only way to experience

true reedom, is to attract the money to you, allowing it to fow and

circulate or the good o yoursel and everyone else.

Those who are desperately seeing money, oten run around in a

renied state o panic, not understanding that this mindset slams the

door on all the riches that would normally fow toward them. Panic

attracts more panic. Worry attracts more worry. Desperation attracts

more desperation. In this case, lie attracts lie!STOP!

The rst step is to stop all the activities youve been doing and

evaluate yoursel and your mindset. There is no way you can tae

ocused action in the right direction i youre unaware o your limiting

yoursel, and your attitude toward money, it will always elude you.

Attracting money is not about getting lucy. It is not about aonce-in-a-lietime opportunity. Its an understanding o how money

I have lived the worst type o lie and now enjoy the best. And the

good lie can be yours too. Im not special or blessed in some way.

lImItIng belIefs are lIke thieves in the night. And some

o your belies are much more costly than others. The direction o

your thoughts and the explanations you give yoursel are extremely

important in determining i you will attract or repel money. The frst

step to attracting money is to understand and alter how you

think. In order to do this, you must address your underlying belies

- and dont thin or one second that you can just sip over this step

and go on to the others. I you do, you absolutely will ail, so dont be

tempted to treat this lightly. This rst step is crucial to your success i

you want to attract money.

People usually enter my Miracles Coaching program when

everything they have tried has ailed or has only been marginally

successul. They say they have tried it all and they have, except or

the rst step! You must align your mind with where you want to go

and who you want to be, way beore you become it. In similar ashion,you must understand how money wors and what it really means to

you, beore you will overcome anything. Otherwise you will end up

sabotaging yoursel repeatedly.

Have you ever elt lie you were just within reach o something

you wanted and then blew it at the last second? This happens requently

in sports. One team seems to have the victory in hand and then maes

blunder ater blunder, until it ends up losing.

Why does this happen?Mindset.

I you dont have the mindset o a champion, youll never be

one. People oten thin that they will have a wealth mindset once

they have made a lot o money. The opposite is true. You must have

Thin wealthy now and you will begin to attract money now. Simple.There are three core belies that have to be released i you want to

attract money into your lie. Theres no way around them and no way

to avoid doing your due diligence. You must get past them or they will

always steal your potential.

i Love myseL

The most important core belie that must be expelled rom yourmind is I dont love mysel. This is the rst thie. Now beore you roll

your eyes and wonder what in the world this has to do with maing

money, listen up. How you eel about yoursel determines how much

money (or anything else that is good) fows into your lie.

Did you now that every single person who hasnt attracted what

they want, has this limiting belie? They dont love themselves. Until

they get rid o that belie, theyre not going to attract money, theyre

not going to experience success and theyre not going to have any

o the things they want. They will wish or hope to attain their goals,

theyll attempt them, but they will level o and be rustrated, wondering

Why is it going so well or everybody else but not or me?

When I say that you must love yoursel, it means that you must

have a tremendous level o acceptance o all your good qualities and be

woring on the qualities you want to improve. This is not an idea where

you ever achieve perection. There will always be more to accomplish

and new issues that must be dealt with. As you grow in nowledge

and understanding, you will achieve your potential. You will alwaysbe woring on yoursel. Thats how I, and everyone I socialie with,

approach it. I dont have all the answers, but Im actively looing or

them. Im also open to woring on anything within me that might

eep me rom attracting what I want.

All o this is lie peeling an onion. Every time you wor through

one layer, another appears. In your nancial lie, these layers and

challenges have nothing to do with the external environment. It

doesnt matter i theres a recession or not, who the President o theUnited States is, or how the stoc maret is doing. Its completely

and totally internal within you. This is one o the reasons why

limiting belies are hard to change. They are invisible and incredibly

destructive.

Step 1: Alter Hw Yu Think


You probably now people who are doing very well nancially. I

not, Im sure youve read about some. Theyre liely doing reallywell,

no matter whats going on in the country. I you loo at the storiesrom the Great Depression or at other challenging times, youll nd

many people who have prospered and thrived many o whom are

still around.

People lie Colonel Sanders who created his namesae chicen

recipe during the Depression, opened a restaurant, and now the

company has locations around the globe. Companies lie John

Deere, which you might have expected to disappear during the

Great Depression, came out o it stronger and is still going strong.These types o companies are all around us and serve as examples o

what can be achieved. However, it begs the question, why did these

companies survive when so many others didnt? Its because their

mindset made them immune to the economic conditions. They

believed they could weather the storm and did. They ound out that

negative news is lie a disease and you can choose to allow yoursel to

be inected or not.

yoU Deserve to sUcceeD

The second o the thieves is I dont deserve it. Its directly

related to I dont love mysel. I you have an important goal, and

you thin its worthy or valuable, such as, I want a new job. I want

a raise. I want more sales - and youre not achieving it - you need to

loo deeper. The reason you arent progressing is liely because you

believe that you dont deserve it.

Now you may thin this is irrational, but is it? Have you ever

had a nice suit that you only wore on special occasions? Or perhapsa special set o dishes that you only use on holidays? The motivation

behind these actions is that you eel these objects are too good or

you to enjoy every day.

I once had a riend who owned a small ranch. One all he bought

a brand new customied truc and came by to show it to me. It was

gorgeous. He was beaming with pride and you could detect a distinct

dierence in the way he waled lie he was 10-eet tall. The next

wee I saw him driving his old truc again and ased what happened.He said, Oh I just tae the new truc out or special occasions, its

way too nice to drive around the ranch. What he was in eect saying,

was the thought o the new truc was above him. It couldnt be part

o his daily lie because he only elt he deserved to have it or special

occasions. You see and hear this thie rear its head every day when

people tal about how someone else is so much better than they are

and how they cant possibly attract certain things because they are justnot or them.

This is a clear indication o where their ocus is which is not

on achieving their dreams, but on why they cant or why someone

else deserves it more. It shows they dont value themselves or their

contribution to their own lives. I you dont love yoursel, you will

never believe that you deserve anything o value in your lie. You will

wal around with the idea that good things only come to others but

they are not meant or you.Now you may even consciously orce yoursel to say I do love

mysel. Loo at what a nice person I am and loo at all these nice things

Im doing. But i youre not seeing positive results, they are being

bloced by a limiting belie deep within you. Your results are simply

a mirrored refection o whats inside you. The outer always refects

the inner. When you experience lac o achievement or when you get

close to a goal only to choe at the last minute, you are struggling with

belies that must be addressed.

I now literally thousands o people who use positive armations

every day as a tool to change their belies. They can be very eective.

The idea is that the more oten you say it, the aster you will adopt it as

a belie. Unortunately these armations are no match or a limiting

belie that may be luring inside you. The positive ideas you are trying

to adopt bounce o lie a ping-pong ball hitting cement. The only

way to change the situation is to acnowledge the underlying belie

and deal with it rst.

money is a tooL or gooD

There is one additional belie about money that belongs with the

other two thieves. This biggest, baddest, boldest, most insidious belie

about money has been around or literally thousands o years and is

still here now Mney is the rt all evil.

Yies!

With this belie, how could you possibly thin youre going to

attract money into your lie, while being a good, spiritual, holy person?You may have some money temporarily. Just enough to survive on.

But deep down your subconscious mind will repel money away rom

you, because you dont want to be associated with evil. This includes

sabotaging your eorts at success.

This one belie has ept generations on the verge o poverty since

the beginning o time. Whats worse is that it is not even true. Money

is ntthe root o evil, especially all evil. Actually George Bernard Shawsaid it best when he said, Its the lack o money that is the root o

all evil. Theres a great deal o truth in that. The lac o money puts

people in a desperate mindset, and that is the true evil. When in

this mindset, they will do things they may have never contemplated

otherwise and oten those things are very destructive to themselves

and/or to others.

The belie that money is evil actually stems rom a Biblical

reerence stating that the lve o money is the root o all inds o evil.(Timothy 6:10) Love o money reers to someone who is chasing the

dollar at the expense o all else in their lie. This principle allows greed

and selshness to maniest in their lives. Chasing money indicates a

competitive mindset that will do anything to have more money. It

does ntsay that money in and o itsel is evil, but that people who

love money are prone to this trait. The Dicens character, Scrooge,

is the perect example o this mindset. He loved his cash money and

only wanted more o it to the exclusion o everything else in lie.

O course when you have a biblical reerence with that much

power, its easy to understand how it can be distorted over time. As

more and more people believe that money is evil, it can be hard to

change the precept and realie the truth.

Remember in the last chapter when I said that money doesnt

have emotions and only maes you more o what you are? Thin

about that. The richest people in the world, millionaires and even

billionaires dont love money. NO. They dont. They love the reedm

that money provides. Money is just a scorecard. Always remember thatyou cant really achieve great monetary success unless you ollow your

passion. The money is secondary. Money fows to the wealthy because

they do not chase it just or the sae o having more. They desire

reedom. They dntdesire money. This is an important distinction!

When you understand that money is neutral and simply an

agreed-upon exchange o value, you will attract money into your lie

right away. As long as you thin that money is bad, evil, corrupt, or

that evil people are rich and rich people are evil youre not going toallow monetary wealth to enter your lie. It will bounce o o you as

i youre made o rubber and youll never even notice it, except when

you loo in your checboo. You will now that you dont have any

money and wonder why.

I went to Ohio to visit my amily a while bac and I saw one

o my brothers, the youngest in our amily. Hes got a nice amily

and a nice little piece o property. Hes a mechanic, so hes maingsome decent money. Hes woring hard and living what most would

consider a completely normal and average lie. But he loos at my lie

and marvels at it. I now on some level hes really conused, since he

doesnt understand how all this money was attracted by someone lie

me a person he grew up with and views as normal and average.

He ased me at one point, How did you do it? To answer him,

I basically laid out all the inormation Im giving you now. I told him

how money wors, what holds us bac, how I overcame my beliesand how I help others do the same thing. He said Thats never going

to wor or me. I could never do that.

I was stunned. I wondered, How can he even thin that? But

in his mind, in his world, based on his past experience, he has no

idea how to attract money into his lie. He has convinced himsel

that he is a mechanic and only a mechanic and thats what hes

going to be or the rest o his lie. That means he will always mae so

much per hour, and thats good enough. When you loo at it rom his

perspective, you can understand this limiting thought process. Hes

raising his amily and has people he loves and taes care o. Hes got

his little piece o property and his vehicle. Hes doing ne. Its good

enough or him. But he doesnt see his own mental process, nor does

he recognie how his limiting belies are eeping him rom an even

better lie.

Then we started taling about my car collection which amaed

him. My brother ased me, How come you dont have a Corvette?

I replied, I dont have one right now. It might be next on thelist, you now. They come in time. This is not a limiting belie on my

part, but my garage is only so big (although Im building a bigger one

as I write this). Still, there are only so many cars that will t inside at

any given moment!

He said, I could never have a Corvette.

Again, Im stunned. Im asing mysel, what goes on in his or

anybody elses mind that sets such limitations?

My brothers mindset is just lie most others. He wors at a jobor a certain amount o money. Thats what he nows and thats what

he sees as his uture. He doesnt see the big picture or the possibilities.

Even with me standing right in ront o him as an example o whats

possible, he still doesnt see it.

While hes taling, Im thining to mysel,I culd name three ways

yu can get a Crvette. It really struc me in that moment how very

dierent our thought processes are. My thought processes can comeup with all inds o options, all inds o opportunities. I listen to most

people, and in 20 minutes or so Im thining Theres an idea theyre

nt even acting n. Theres smething they culd draw ut and turn int a

prduct. But theyre not doing it. In act, theyre not even seeing it.

It still taes me by surprise sometimes that my own mindset has

changed so much. Not that Im saying I am the awaened one. Im still

woring on mysel all the time - every day - and Im sharing whats

woring or me with you. Its just proo to me that i you do the woreach day, youll mae progress without even realiing it.

Just as Im astonished at how ar Ive come, there are also those

times when it becomes obvious how ar I still have to go. Recently, I

had dinner with kevin Trudeau, author o the Natural Cures boo

series. I was telling him how I have published over 30 boos, several o

which have become bestsellers. I elt really good telling him.

Then he told me how he sold 30 millin copies o one o his

boos. Suddenly I thought, I havent accomplished anything! But

my point is that hes thining dierently. Hes thining bigger than I

have up to this point and that means I still have a ways to go. There

will always be more to reach or and more to achieve. The process o

changing your thoughts to accept each new level o achievement into

your lie is the real challenge.

the git o reLease

The rst question anyone ass when I tal about the three thieves

is, How can I change my belies and thoughts about money?The rst step is to evaluate what you believe and why. Awareness

is a must, as you must identiy whats holding you bac in order to

deal with it. Once youve identied the ideas you want to change,

then you must get clear o them and release their power over you. Ive

written many boos and oered numerous techniques or clearing old

belies and Im always open to new or dierent techniques.

The basic premise o any clearing technique is that you rst

connect with that belie and become aware o the emotion you haveattached to it. I you eel you arent deserving, then the rst thing to

do is connect with that eeling. Do you eel sad, mad, or worthless?

Now realie that this is just a perception on your part. You choose

to eel the way you do and you can choose to release it. I oten

encounter this belie with people whove been treated badly or abused.

They eel undeserving because they were told that as a child. But is it

true? NO.Getting past your old belies means exposing them to the light o

day and examining what they are and i theyre valid. Usually, 99.9%

o the time they arent. We carry around a whole slew o belies rom

childhood. I you were made un o in second grade because you were

araid to spea in ront o the class, it may have created a long lasting

ear o public speaing. But where does that ear stem rom? I you

miss a word, is the audience going to jump on stage and devour you?

NO. Your logical adult brain can gure this out, but you also have torelease the emotional connection. This is the real challenge.

Thin bac to a specic incident and recall those emotions. Does

your chest eel tight? Do you hold your breath or cringe with ear?

These reactions are not in response to a real danger they are the mind

reliving an old incident that no longer can even aect you unless you

hang on to that old emotion that blocs your progress.

A lot o people thin that positive armations will overcome

limiting belies, but I disagree. I you dont directly address the issue

and just use positive armations, you dont release the negative

emotions that are blocing your progress. This is why i you just use

armations, without dealing with the underlying issues, you will

have limited success, because the limiting belie is still there.

There are many dierent variations o clearing techniques. Brad

entirely on eliminating money belies that are holding you bac. You

can do this on your own, or limiting belies such as, I dont lovemysel. I dont deserve money and Money is evil. None o these

attracting money can be released right now. Your lie can change in a

nanosecond. I remember when I rst started doing seminars, people

would as, Can I really learn this in a weeend? Can I really change

my lie in a weeend?

All I can tell them is my own experience. Ive had moments in mylie where I changed because o a story somebody told me over dinner.

Ive had moments in my lie where I changed because o something

I saw in a movie. Ive had moments in my lie where Ive been in a

seminar and somebody said one thing just a phrase or explanation o

a concept, and it might not have even come rom the seminar leader

and something shited in me and I awaened.

You can have an awaening at any point at any time, includingright now as youre reading these words. I now many people whose

lives have been changed by reading a boo. For whatever reason,

whether it was a new idea theyd never seen or an old idea they

were nally ready to hear. The words awaened them and changed

their lie.

I wrote this boo with the intent o helping you brea through

your nancial barriers. Most people will change other aspects o their

lives but money is the hardest area or them to grasp. You shouldnteel trapped into sitting on the sidelines while others attract the money

that you could be sharing. And you dont have to.

But you must decide. Are you ready to loo into those dar, long-

held belies and banish them orever? Are you willing to do whatever is

necessary rather than whats easy? Are you ready to say, Hey money!!

Here I am! Im ready to receive!? I you are, then youre ready to learn

the rest o the steps that will get you there, but you must commit to

doing them all. Each one in ull. Then and only then will you open

the foodgates to your new abundant uture.

Remember, the frst step is to alter how you think about

money. When you realie that it is a neutral orce or good, and you

deserve it, then you can begin the process to attract money now.

But understanding and altering how you thin is only step one.

the time while those who dont have money, experience struggle

constantly. Its as i there is some secret that the wealthy now that they

arent telling anyone. There is a secret but its not how to accumulate

money. In act its not even about money. The wealthy now that

i you chase money, it will always elude you. They also now that

money has to circulate, meaning you are a conduit or money, not a

receptacle.

This is the secret that causes so much conusion. Most people

assume theyre supposed to be a receptacle or money. You attract

money into your lie and it stics to you lie glue. In reality, it fows

through you. You are not a stopping point but a conductor. I lien it

to trac on a busy street.

Imagine that you are in control o all the trac lights on a busystreet. The cars fowing by are dollars. I you try to jump out in the

middle o trac and capture the dollars, you do nothing but cause

chaos. Liewise, i you set all the trac lights on red in an eort

to eep as much money as possible, you completely stop the fow o

trac. It then taes much more time and energy to get trac fowing

again. Here again, gathering a ew specic dollars is not nearly as

powerul as controlling an entire stream o money. You can direct this

stream at will which allows you to have the ind o lie you dreamabout.

Wealthy people understand the concept o directing a stream o

money rather than hoarding it. They now that money in motion

is a powerul tool, while money just sitting is doing nothing but

losing value. Unortunately, most people who want to attract money

into their lives merely sit bac and wait to receive it. Thats not how

it wors. You cant stand over home plate with a big catchers mittwaiting or your ortune to come at you. I you do, your eorts will be

met with limited success because youre standing in the way!

When I explain this idea, there is usually a room ull o people

nodding and agreeing as i they get it. But it can be a struggle to

actually understand the idea on an everyday level. This is because were

conditioned by everyone we now and everything weve heard that the

way to riches is to accumulate them. This is why we have retirement

unds and save or a rainy day. These things are not necessarily bad,but the idea that this type o mindset is the way to true wealth is just

plain wrong. Once you see the true power o directing revenue streams

rather than hoarding your money, it becomes obvious that savings

plans alone wont get you the lie you really want.

Im not saying to be nancially irresponsible, but Im telling you

that unless you change your mindset and let go o the belies you

currently have about money, youre doomed to struggle, no matter

how much money you have.

We all now people who struggle to mae ends meet each month.

It doesnt matter i they mae $50,000 per year or $200,000 per year.

They have a mindset that ocuses on what they lac, so rather than

being a conduit or more money, they constantly try to chase money

or try to mae their money stretch.

I spent some time with a man Ive been acquainted with o and

on or years. He was a long-time real estate investor, and nown to

pinch pennies at every opportunity. His real estate investments always

seemed to squea by and not mae the big money he wanted. Justve minutes around this man and you could immediately see his

lac mindset he didnt tip, reused to drin anything but water

when he went out or dinner, and drove all over town to save ve

cents on gasoline!

Needless to say, my ideas about attracting money ell on dea ears.

He was convinced that maing money was hard. He told the story o

how his parents had survived the Depression by barely scraping by.

They considered giving money to others a sin. My nicname or himbecame Scrooge because he thought anyone who spent money was

one bric shy o a ull load. Needless to say, he thins Im cray to this

day. But my income has soared and his has remained about the same

as it was 10 years ago, which means hes going bacward, not orward.

Hes so ocused on every dollar that he cant step bac and see the big

picture. Thereore his money doesnt grow.

Its a common misconception that it taes a lot o money to getanywhere. That is simply not true. Even a small amount o money

applied in just the right way can produce powerul results. Not too

long ago, ater one o our notorious Texas downpours, a riend o mine

called and said part o his ceiling collapsed. He never even noticed a

lea. But over time drop by drop water had wored its way through

the roo and rotted out the ceiling. It only too one good rain shower

to bring the whole thing tumbling down. When you thin about a

drop o water, it loos and eels harmless but drops o water overtime carved the Grand Canyon. Dont underestimate the power o

a little bit o money applied in the right way as it can oten exceed

tremendous amounts o money squandered.

So i money needs to circulate, how do you start? Beore I answer

that question, Im going to say that you must decide to set aside

all those old belies you have about money or this idea will mae

you panic.

The secret to getting money to fow through your lie and be

attracted to you, is to GIVE IT AWAY. Read that again and again.

Remember what I said about setting aside those old belies? I bet you

instantly had them rear up at the idea o giving money away. How

can giving away money attract more money? Seems a little bacward

doesnt it? Its not. When you hoard money, youre stopping the fow.

Giving without expectation o return rom a specifc source

is the second step to attracting money into your lie.Ive spoen and written a great deal on the Law o Attraction.

This law isnt new or dierent rom anything that you learned as

a child. Simply stated, What you put out into the world comes

bac to you several times over. I what you put out is positive,

you receive positive returns. I what you put out is negative, then

you receive negative returns. Its that simple. When you were young,

you were probably taught the ideas o give unto others and its

better to give than receive along with other similar truths. These ideasare simple statements o the Law o Attraction. I you give reely,

without any expectation o return, you will receive bac in ind many

times over not to mention the sheer joy that giving brings into

your lie.

Some people thin giving has nothing to do with maing

money. I believe they are intertwined. The more you give, the more

you receive which allows you to give even more. You can give tothose you love or to those who inspire you. You can give to your

religious organiation or charity. It doesnt matter to whom you give,

as long as its something you eel good about. In short, give money to

whatever or whoever has made you eel uplited, inspired, encouraged

or happier.

tWo LeveLs o giving

There are actually two levels o giving. The rst is well nownto most people. It is called tithing. At this level youre giving 10%

or more o your gross income to the source o your spiritual and/or

inspirational nourishment.

Now Im sure youve heard that youre supposed to give 10%. I

have to admit that years ago I really struggled with the idea. Partially

because I usually heard it rom someone with a vested interest in getting

me to believe it! People lie ministers, non-prot organiations, and

charities. I thought they wanted me to give, so they can have their cut

o my money.

Bac when I was trying to get o the streets and get my lie

together, Id go to church and listen to those who taled about giving

as a path to receiving and prosperity. I thought it was a total scam!

I would sit bac and listen suspiciously, reusing to buy into what I

thought they were selling. I reused to all or it. But the truth is that

as long as I didnt all or it, I didnt receive money. I was choing o

the supply beore it even got started.

Even i I pried a ew bucs out o my wallet, I would waitimpatiently to get those ew dollars bac in return. The problem

was my mindset. I gave grudgingly; not reely and with joy. I gave

expecting an immediate return and accounting o the dollars I elt I

was owed by my giving. It wasnt until I learned gratitude and the

real joy o giving that I was able to step into the fow o receiving. It

is this joy o giving without expectation that must be mastered beore

you can move on to the next level, which is seeding.

Theres a wonderul boo called Seed Mney In Actin, by JohnSpeller. John tals about planting the seed o attraction. This seed

is giving. And giving has the power to bring more riches into your

lie. That means giving more than the 10% that youve been tithing.

In order to attract more money into your lie, you have to give. This

give, you open the door inside o you to receive. The more you give,

the wider that door swings open. Giving comes bac to you, but itonly comes bac through the same opening you made. So i youve

only opened your door a little, then a little is all that can come bac

to you.

I youre sitting here wondering, Wheres the money? Then

the rst question to as is Have I been giving money? I so, To

whom?

Did you give to your source o spiritual or inspirational

nourishment? This is important because you also want to attract morespiritual and inspirational nourishment or your journey. That source

can come rom anybody. Perhaps its a waitress woring two jobs to go

bac to school or maybe its a perormer with awe-inspiring talent. It

could be the cab driver oering an upliting story, or a woman rom

church who always thins o others. It can be anybody.

Sometimes people hear me tal about giving where you received

inspiration, and they say they dont now where they received it.

That always amaes me. Just stop, refect, and be honest with yoursel.

As, Wh r what inspired me tday? Your inspiration could come

rom anyplace or anybody. Maybe it was a smile you received rom a

stranger. Maybe it was a ortune cooie. Maybe it was rom a minister,

politician (it could happen), amily member or riend.

When you are on alert or receiving inspiration, youll note it.

When you do, reach into your pocet and give some money to that

person, place or source.

oPening the DoorA ew years ago I heard about a little boy named kir. kir had

a pediatric stroe six wees ater birth. I didnt now such a thing

existed. The stroe means that kir cant wal or tal. A mutual riend

o mine, kevin Hogan, told me about kir. kevin was raising money

to get kir some much-needed therapy. I told kevin No. I said, Im

already giving. I drew the line and said, I dont now this id or his

mom.

It wasnt but a ew hours later when it was really gnawing at meand I said, Oay, Im going to do it. I sent $1,000 and it elt great!

A ew months later, I thought, I wonder what else little kir needs?

So I wrote kirs mom. kirs mom replied that he needed an exercise

machine. kir would strap into the machine and therapists would

be able to move his body in ways that retrain his mind and body to

connect. The machine would allow his brain and his physical body to

start woring together again.The machine cost $15,000. So I went to my blog and told my

readers that I needed help raising money. I told the whole story,

posted a photo o kir, as well as a photo o the machine. I had a

PayPal merchant Account set up that went directly to kirs mom. In

short order, a couple thousand dollars came in. I was disappointed.

I thought, Why arent people giving? And then I thought, Why

arentIgiving? So I got out my checboo and wrote a chec or the

entire $15,000. I sent it to kirs mom.This money was going to a stranger Id never met, or a machine

Id never seen. The act o writing that $15,000 chec was one o the

most exhilarating experiences o my lie. It was absolutely exquisite!

I cant tell you how good I elt to now that I was writing a chec or

$15,000. I was homeless, living in poverty at one point in my lie. I was

on unemployment until the government cut me o. I was suering,

struggling, going through terrible times. Now I could write a chec or

$15,000 to a complete stranger. I elt antastic.

The power o this git opened the giving door in my lie even

wider allowing more than I could ever imagine to fow bac in my

direction. The same day I sent the $15,000 to kirs mom, I received

a chec out o the blue or $35,000. I didnt write the chec to get

money. I wasnt looing or the money. This wasnt money that was

owed to me or that I was rattling the trees or saying, When is the

mail going to come and bring my chec? I wasnt looing or it, I

wasnt thining o any o that. I gave with complete detachment to

somebody who was actually inspiring me.kir inspires me. His pictures show him looing lie a little

Buddha. He has a great smile, bright eyes and a loving side o him that

melts my heart. I loo at the photos o him and get choed up. I loo

at those photos and something inside o me goes, What the hec are

we complaining about? Theres no excuse. This little boy cant move

his body and hes happy. That was worth $15,000 to me. And then I

received $35,000 unexpectedly. Incredible!

Ive learned that giving is incredibly powerul. I really wantyou to understand that you must give. But you must give where you

receive spiritual nourishment. Dont give mindlessly or automatically.

Chec into your heart and do those things that nourish your soul. I

had t-shirts made a long time ago that said, Where did you receive

the most joy today? Wherever you received the most joy today give

there.

You can give in a lot o ways. What Im describing is a spiritualprinciple o giving away 10% o your income called tithing. This is

the rst step to attracting more money into your lie. I you want to

go urther, then the next level is the seed money principle. This is

where you give at least an additional 10% to wherever youre eeling

inspired. This is on top o what youve already given.

When I was struggling and nding my own path, there were

times Id loo in my pocet and there was $5. Thats it! And Id thin,

Well, 10% o $5 is only 50 cents. It didnt really seem lie it was evenworth giving such a small amount. Ater all, what can 50 cents really

do? But I was looing at it bacward. I was ocusing on what the 50

cents could buy rather than how wide those 50 cents could open the

door or me to receive. It wasnt the amount o money, it was about

the spirit o giving whatever I could.

Almost everybody gets to the point where they dont want to

give. They want to hold on to their money or they thin giving is a

waste. Its easy to assume, I will give when I have the money to give.

I will give when I have a million dollars. Just get me to the million

dollars and then Ill start giving. But it doesnt wor that way. Just lie

you have to have the mindset o success beore you become successul,

you have to have the mindset o giving beore you have a lot to give.

This is because giving opens the door. And i you dont give what

you have now, you wont receive more money to give later. As you

eep on giving, youll receive even more. You only have to ollow the

guideline give 10% to where you receive spiritual nourishment and

eep doing it.In 1924, John D. Roceeller wrote a letter to his son, explaining

why he gave money away. He wrote, ...in the beginning o getting

money, way bac in my childhood, I began giving it away, and

continued increasing the gits as the income increased Notice that

he didnt say he waited until he was wealthy to start giving money.

He started the practice as a child and continued it throughout his

lietime. It is estimated that Roceeller gave away over $550 million

dollars.Years ago I wrote a boo on P.T. Barnum, the amous circus

promoter. He was a big believer in protable philanthropy. He was

convinced that giving leads to receiving. And he was right. He went

on to become one o the worlds richest men.

companies are learning that business expansion is closely tied with

their willingness to give bac. This is opening the door to receiving ona global scale. And the most important type o giving is personal and

individual.

From my perspective, the biggest mistae that people mae is

to give out their gits with an eyedropper. They give ar too little and

miss out on the abundance they could be receiving. You have to give a

signicant percentage o what you have to be in the fow to receive.It too me ar too long to grasp this concept and or years I

gave as i it would physically pain me. I gave as little as I could. What

I received in return was equally small and miserly. This was proo

positive that it didnt wor. Where was my abundance? I expected the

universe to shove an elephant through the door when Id only let an

opening wide enough or a gnat! Naturally, what I got in return was

in proportion to what I gave. I gave very little and received very little

but I still wanted that elephant!

Finally, I made up my mind to test the giving theory. For quite

a while Id been reading inspiring stories rom Mie Dooley o

www.tut.com. I really enjoyed these stories and received a tremendous

amount o inspiration rom them. I decided to give bac to the source

o my inspiration and send Mie some money. In the past, I might

have sent $5.00 (gnat) but this time I sat down and wrote a chec
