NOTICE OF A NEW TRANSNET ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT PROCESS
ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION PROCESS FOR THE PROPOSED UPGRADE AND NEW CONSTRUCTION RELATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT
OF THE SWAZILAND RAIL LINK PROJECT, FROM DAVEL TO NERSTON (MPUMALANGA) AND GOLELA TO NSEZI (KWAZULU-NATAL)
ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION PROCESS
Notice is hereby given in terms of Regulation 54 of the Environmental Impact Regulations published in Government Notice R543 in Government Gazette No. 33306 of 18 June 2010, under Section 24(5) of the National Environmental Management Act No. 107 of 1998, as amended, that Transnet SOC Limited (Transnet) proposes the following;
The upgrade and new construction of the Swaziland Railway Link project and associated infrastructure from Davel to Nerston (Mpumalanga) (Reference no 14/12/16/3/3/2/553) and from Golela to Nsezi (KwaZulu-Natal) (Reference no 14/12/16/3/3/2/552) and the Davel Railway Yard (Reference no 14/12/16/3/3/2/551).
In terms of sections 24 of section 24D of the National Evironmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998), and Government Notices R543 (Regulations 26 to 35) and R545 as amended, an Environ-mental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required in terms of the following listed activity:“The construction of railway lines, stations or shunting yards, excluding-(i) Railway lines, shunting yards and railway stations in industrial complexes or zones;(ii) Underground railway lines in a mining area; and(iii) Addtional railway lines within the reserve of an existing railway line.”
This project covers the following Municipalities:In Mpumalanga: In KwaZulu-Natal:Msukaligwa JoziniMkhondo The Big 5 False Bay Hlabisa Mtubatuba Mbonambi City of Mhlathuze Uphongolo
ADDITIONAL AUTHORISATION REQUIRED
Application will be made for the issuing of Water Use License (WULA) for activities associated with the project which require authorisation in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act No. 36 of 1998.
Futhermore authorisation will be sought for activities associated with the project which require a Waste Management License (WMLA) in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act No. 59 of 2008.
Aurecon South Africa (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Transnet as the Independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner to undertake the required EIA, WULA and WMLA.

The fair, hosted by the Department ofLabour (DOL), targeted work seekerswith degrees, diplomas, N-courses,trade certificates and Grade 12. Theparticipants were also given training onvarious topics ranging from how toprepare themselves for the workplaceand how to master interviews.

Messrs Hassim Jassat, Mohamed Moogalia and Tafael Zulu join some of the elderlycitizens to whom they handed brand-new blankets in Wesselton last Wednesday.The Women’s Islamic Society Serving Humanity (WISSH) and the Al-ImdaadFoundation made the donation of 200 blankets possible.
