October is the Month of the Rosary. The Knights of Columbus, working with the Office of the Marian Apostolate and the Legion of Mary, are organizing a month of Public Square Rosaries in support of our own ailing country. Our goal is to pray the rosary in a public gath-ering, in a public space, every day in October. Come pray with us as we humbly ask for healing and unity for our country with the beauty and simplicity of the Most Holy Rosary. You can find a full listing of event times and locations at www.siouxfallsrosary.com.

Good morning to all! I have given a gift of some new books
to the parish library. In honor of this election year, let me share with
you one the books that would be worth your time to read. Archbishop
Charles Chaput, archbishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has given
our Catholic citizens a worthy reflection on Americana civic life called
“Render unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Be-
liefs in Political Life”. Archbishop Chaput is a leader among Ameri-
can bishops, encouraging American Catholics to live vibrantly our
Faith rather than submitting to the culture.
What is the purpose of this book? The Archbishop writes in
the first chapter: Over the past decade I’ve grown increasingly tired of
the church and her people being told to be quiet on public issues that
urgently concern us. Worse, Catholics themselves too often stay silent
out of a misguided sense of good manners. I think that he is absolutely
right. Catholics citizens have to take up the challenge of knowing a bit
of our Catholic history in America and understanding better what the
Church teaches on the great issues of the day and why. May this book
challenge us to take up our baptismal vocation to be salt and light in
the world, encouraging what is good is America and challenging what
needs conversion.
