– Too many books are already missing. We operate openly but on trust

• Share your information– Submit your documents (reports / conference papers

/ articles etc) to CERN Document Server http://cdsweb.cern.ch/ (use the submit button and “CERN Open Document” for most of your submissions)

– Donate books you no longer need

• Make your old colleagues behave like you– Many are often not even aware of the service

• The LHC-era will see a publishing reform– Already discussions are taking place to fund a new

publishing model for particle physics and ensure open access

– Other domains (engineering/computing) should follow suit – the way to start is to self-archive your papers.

Open Access where possible

• In the meantime you can help to ensure people can read your work by self-archiving

• CERN rules say you should submit your documents to CDS. If not, even CERN staff might not have access to your publication– 50 years old CERN reports can still not be scanned

because the publisher owns the copyright…• Self-archive your own copy of your articles
