OK guys… Our class is 2 for 2 now! I passed the test today!

Just like Jennifer said… Stick to the plan that Joe taught us. DEFINITELY study the

outline and the glossary! That helped a lot. Of course, you have to also know the

formulas, otherwise you won’t even be able to make an educated guess on

those questions. But on my test, there was probably only about 4-5 formula

questions.

problem if you basically do everything Joe has said to do… read the book, read

the outline, and know your formulas.

Hi Everyone,

I Passed the Exam today! :)

Lessons Learned ;) -

1. Joe was 100% on about studying the exam content outline. I studied it and

noticed many questions were easier to answer since I studied it carefully (the

suggestion to cut out the tasks and rearrange was good too)

2. If you notice, the new exam content outline contains more emphasis on

stakeholder engagement, project charter, and lessons learned- guess

what...many many questions were on these topics

3. Mindy, Moe, and Elizabeth's advice was great -Thank you - I used their

suggestions to study as well

4. The suggestion from Joe (and as per PMI ethics) to investigate hearsay helped

a lot - many questions related to this

Hello Joseph,

Wanted to let you know that I passed the PMP exam last week.

In my opinion my exam was pretty much exactly as expected: a pretty healthy

blend of straightforward questions, tricky 'got ya' questions, and plenty of

distractors. One surprise was that there were graphics/illustrations on the

exam…

I thought the preparation course, practice exam, and your tips above did a

great job preparing me for this exam.

I wanted to let you know that I passed the PMP Exam on the first attempt. I

followed your instructions and advice in preparing for the test. I specifically

remember you saying to memorize all the formulas as there could only be one

right answer. 90% of my questions were formula based. I remember this being

my weakness in the boot camp and focused on learning and applying each

formula. Thank you so much for the wonderful instruction and guidance you

It was pretty good and just what I needed at the time. The examples and tips

were very helpful in remembering the materials... For me it was about making

time and getting back into good study habits but I don’t think I can emphasize

enough to people about the importance of test questions. I learned faster from

my mistakes plus understanding the various ways the questions could be written

is invaluable.

Finally took the test today and am happy to report that I passed! The boot

camp was a tremendous help. I had taken on online course prior to the boot

camp, and it was helpful for an overview so the topics were familiar to me going

into the boot camp, but I doubt that I would have passed based on the online

course and the PMBOK alone. The online course sample test questions were

quite different from the real ones, the [vendor] sample questions were more

helpful. So thank you Joe!

[More than] 60% of the questions gave a scenario and at the end was usually

the question, “What would the PM do next?”

Dear All,

I am also happy to share with you that I took the exam this afternoon and has

successfully passed the exam! I found that approximately about 40% of the

questions are from PMBOK and 60% based on real project management

experience.

I took the test today and passed. I mainly focused on … content with PMBOK as

backup. I was disappointed with myself when doing the practice exams at

home but the actual test seemed a lot easier. Most of the situational

questions seemed straight forward as I used my work experience to determine

what I would do as the PM. Anyway studying the material from PMBOK and …

was all I used and it worked for me.

…All in all, doable. Just put yourself in the shoes of the perfect PM. # 1

recommendation is know what to do “next” in the process. When I have a

change request submitted by a stakeholder, am I supposed to… clarify

requirements? Check the scope? Send it to CCB? Reject it myself? Essentially,

you can do all of this “next”. When I close the project, what do I do next? When

I receive a risk, what do I do next? When I have team/stakeholder issues, what

do I do next?

I took my test today and passed! Thank you all for a great class. I definitely

couldn't have passed without this course. I also probably studied about 30

hours or so in addition the test. I started the first 30 minutes really stressed, but

calmed down after awhile and got into a groove. There were a ton of

calculations on my test and thankful I studied those…

Hi Joe,

Just wanted to let you know that I passed the PMP exam this morning.

I studied 50 hours over 3 weeks after the PMP class…

Your suggestion about recreating the Pg. 61 chart using index cards and the

PMP Exam Content Outline cut up and worked like a puzzle were very helpful. I

probably did each at least 6 times. They helped me solidify in my mind the

processes and how they were grouped together. That gained me a few more

correct answers on the test…

I think this test was harder than the CPA exam because so many of the PMP

questions require correct interpretation of the question in order to get it right...

It was brutal.

Hey everyone, hopefully you have already passed the test. I took it today, and

some parts of it were tough, lots of the items can get confusing. As they say,

make sure you feel comfortable before taking it. I wouldn't recommend waiting

long before taking the exam…

Anyways make sure you cover all the key points and ensure that you

understand how to handle changes to the program, procurement, and EVM.

I am so happy to say that I passed the exam!!

I took the exam last night at 5pm and I had 20 minutes left at the end...

Before taking the course I read the PMBOK and felt like I learned a lot of words

and different concepts but had difficulty putting it all together.

Mr. Tierney helped make sense of the PMBOK and learning from each of your

experiences in the class was like gold to me!

I passed the exam on 18th of July. Most of my questions were on Procurements

and HR. About 20 questions on CPI and SPI alone, so tell your class to study those

really good.

Looks like good news all around! I passed mine on June 22nd…

I had so little time to review, I probably did about 2/3rds the studying that Joe

recommended. I did skim the PMBOK, stare at the Tools and Techniques a bit

and re-read … power point slides. I did this chapter by chapter, kind of like we

did in class. I made sure I could reconstruct the equations for Earned Value.

I finished with about 10 minutes to spare and was felt like I couldn’t do justice to

a proper re-reading of the exam and didn’t want to second guess myself so I just

stopped.

Hi Everyone, I finally got in to do the exam this past Saturday and I passed!

Whew, what a relief…

Although I've done PM work for a long time, your class was the first time I ever

saw the PMBOK and had exposure to this material so I felt the need to really

learn it first.

Your class was a GREAT kick start for all this stuff…

So, now it is done and I can start worrying about PDU's. ;)

…Thank you Joe and everyone else for making the start of this journey for me a

fun one.

I know many (most?) have passed already and for the rest of you, I'm confident

you will get your certification soon. Hang in there!

I passed the PMP exam on the first pass.

I had 7 minutes left and I took the break midway through as you suggested.

Hi Joe, …I took the PMP boot camp with you from 18th to 21st March 2013 in San

Jose.

Took the exam on April 15th and passed it…

Your teachings in the boot camp were by far the biggest asset I had as far as

preparations were concerned... I wouldn't have been able to pass it without the

boot camp.

Joe, I passed the exam and earned my PMP certification yesterday. Thank you!

You prepared me well.

I would NOT change what you are doing too much.

It is on target...

Posed a number of questions that tested your knowledge of 'Executing' v.

'Monitor & Control'.

Closure was trickier than I expected - plenty of scenarios that read something

like this: 'Given scenario X, your project was just cancelled, what do you do

first?‘

Hey Joe, Took the test today and passed – the first time! Thanks!

FYI – here are the comments I left for ...:

Joe was great. Really knew his stuff and ran the class well. Kept things moving

and interesting (and I tend to get bored very quickly)…

I came to realize that the way the information was presented allowed me to

UNDERSTAND the material so that I could figure out answers where needed,

instead of having to completely memorize everything. This was incredibly

helpful and gave me more confidence going into the exam…

Overall though the course helped immensely so thank you! … If I go for another

certification I will definitely use you guys.

…I would like to add that the course instructor, Joseph Tierney, was outstanding.

In 30+ years for working for General Electric, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing, I

haven't had the pleasure of meeting anyone of his caliber…

Joseph's ability to balance the course material, PM theory and his real world

experiences kept a very diverse class interested and will serve me well after I

pass the PMP exam.

Joseph is a credit to your organization.

Joe, I just wanted to say thank you for a great class. Going in, I had never

heard of ... so I really did not know what to expect. I wasn't sure if I would be

getting anywhere close to my money's worth with a four-day crash course that I

found on the web. Now, at the close, I feel like a received great value…

I felt that the most valuable aspect of the class - by far - was your personal

illustrations.

[They] helped me to put the concepts you were discussing into real world

situations, and also to see the way a mature and successful PM would approach

the problems. Second, your ability to communicate complex and, at times, dry

subject matter was in itself a learning tool for me. I used your demonstrated

communications ability as an example of how a successful PM would approach

the management of a mature and intelligent team. Also, the level of

excellence and attention to detail that you brought was very apparent to

me. It was clear that you value the PM process as well as the ethics that PMI

puts forth, and the passion and skill with which you presented the material

helped me a great deal to envision myself as a successful PM…

The real value is in the experience you have and the way you communicate it.

The rest of the class (the ... portion, if you will) was a good and necessary

introduction the material and a great signpost for how to proceed with the next

stage of study…

Hi Joe:

Just wanted to let you know I took and passed the PMP exam yesterday! I really

didn't think I passed, it was really tough...and I barely finished, but guess I got

enough questions correct to pass. I was thinking you might see me in another

class if I didn't pass, but guess not!

Classmates, Just a short note to let you know I passed. ... study methodology

was very good from my perspective…

1. Reading the questions. Knowledge based questions took

substantially longer to carefully read and understand. Because they

often contained superfluous information, I recommend you read the

question you need to answer, before trying to get through the

context. I ended up doing this at the end because I was going back

to the beginning of the question to re-read it anyway.

2. Finance questions were deliberately confusing. The math is easy if

you understand what is being asked. The information is presented in a

way that may require more than one formula to calculate. I got a lot

more of them than I expected. More sample questions when studying

would have helped.

3. If you have even a strong feeling about an answer, complete the

question and mark it. I was time constrained (barely got through 2nd

pass) and needed to address the questions I had skipped entirely

before reviewing other answers. Because there's no penalty for

answering incorrectly, recommend you put something down if it

doesn't require calculation. Again, coming back to questions and

reading them completely eats a lot of time.

I'm happy to announce that I passed my PMP exam today…

Anyway good luck to the rest of the team preparing to take the test....its not

easy but its doable…
