JISC’s expectations

At least 50% external content

– These should be materials produced externally to the institution and that do not have any connection with the institution leading the bid

JISC expect that materials not already freely available to the UK HE sector would be made so during the course of the project

Use materials from programmes such as the JISC Digitisation programme, JORUM, D4L, X4L, DEL, JISC Collections and the SFC eLearning Transformation Programme

Learning materials released to the UK HE sector, through an appropriate accessible repository – JORUM

Openly available on the Internet?

Available in the long term?

Why a project support function?

“The technology that enables new types of digital publishing races ahead and the law often appears to lag behind. However, there have been significant legal advances that should warn against a cavalier approach to handling the rights which exist in materials.” John Casey, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Networked e-Learning: A Beginners Guide for Content Developers

What will CASPER be doing?

Outcomes

– Templates to help institutions clear rights for the re-use of content

– Understanding of the true costs associated with rights clearance for e-learning materials

– Understanding and assessment of the training needs required to support management of IPR and e-learning content use

– Transfer of knowledge to 3rd party content owners on how institutions want to use content in e-learning

• Currently many content owners – especially academic publishers – have a knowledge gap in this area that limits existing licensing

2. Start collating and maintaining accurate, detailed records about all of content you are using in your project

- We’ll make available templates to guide your work in this

3. Arrange a meeting with me and Caren!
