James Marshall Hendrix

James Marshall Hendrix(bornJohnny Allen Hendrix; Seattle, November 27, 1942, London, September 18, 1970) was an American musician, singer and songwriter.

Jimi Hendrix was of a mixed ancestry that includedAfrican American, European, andCherokeegenetics.

He is widely considered to have been the greatest electric guitarist in the history of popular music, and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.

Following success in Europe with his bandthe Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in the United States after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, he headlined theWoodstock Festivalin 1969.

Hendrix is widely known for and associated with the use ofpsychedelic drugs, most notablylysergic acid diethylamide(LSD), as were many other famous musicians and celebrities of that time. He supposedly had never taken psychedelic drugs until the night he met Linda Keith, but had smokedcannabisand drank alcohol previously.

Early on September 18, 1970, Jimi Hendrix died in London. Hendrix had taken nine Vesparax sleeping pills. The normal medical dose was a half to one tablet.
