The current conditions along the Boylston Street edge of The Boston Common are not taking advantage of the existing plant material . Drainage issues cause large puddles, while compacted roots are struggling to survive. Phase 1 of this project is constructing a french drain along the edge of the walkway, allowing water to infiltrate into the crowded planting bed. Phase 2 is reworking the existing vegetation, removing a few unsightly plants for the long term health of the larger specimens.
