One morning Jim woke up and saw an enormous plant outside his window. It was a beanstalk.

Page 5: Jim and the Beanstalk

That is strange. It wasn’t there yesterday. Let’s see how high it is. So he climbed the beanstalk and went up, and up and up.

Page 6: Jim and the Beanstalk

This is a very big beanstalk, he thought, as he climbed up into the clouds.

Page 7: Jim and the Beanstalk

At the top of the beanstalk, Jim saw a castle. I’m hungry, he said. I know, I’ll go to the castle and ask for some breakfast. I’d like cornflakes for breakfast.

Page 8: Jim and the Beanstalk

Jim went to the castle and knocked at the door. He waited and waited and then, the door slowly opened

Aha, said the Giant. That’s a nice juicy boy. I’m hungry, I’d like boy on toast but I’ve got no teeth. Come in boy, you’re quite safe.

Beef

Beer

The Giant gave Jim some beer and beef for breakfast. Is your name Jack?, asked the Giant. No, said Jim, . My name is Jim. Did you come up a beanstalk?, asked the Giant. A boy named Jack came up the beanstalk and stole my golden hen and golden harp and I’ve been sad ever since and now I’m very old. I can’t even read my books!

Page 10: Jim and the Beanstalk

Haven’t you got any glasses?, said Jim. What are they?, asked the Giant. They go on your nose. It’s my eyes I’m talking about, said the Giant and he banged his fist on the table. Glasses are for your eyes, said Jim. And he explained about glasses while the Giant listened carefully. Get them for me said the Giant. I’ll give you a gold coin.

Page 11: Jim and the Beanstalk

So Jim took a tape measure and measured the Giant’s head.

The Giant gave Jim a gold coin and Jim climbed down the beanstalk. He showed the coin to his mother but before she said a word, Jim ran off to the ..... oculist.

Page 13: Jim and the Beanstalk

The oculist could not believe his eyes when he saw the giant gold coin but he started work immediately. He worked all night and the next morning the glasses were ready.

Jim took the glasses home and then tied them on his back and climbed up the beanstalk

The Giant loved his new glasses. He could read his books.

You’re a good boy, said the Giant. Now I can see. I wonder what you’d be like to eat. I can’t eat boys nowadays. I haven’t got any teeth. Don’t you have false teeth?, said Jim. What are false teeth?, said the Giant

So Jim took a tape measure and measured the Giant’s mouth. The Giant gave Jim a gold coin and Jim climbed down the beanstalk. He showed the coin to his mother but before she said a word, Jim ran off to the ....dentist.

The Giant loved his new teeth. He jumped up and down he was so happy! Then the Giant looked at himself in the mirror and said, I used to be good looking. I had long curly red hair and now I have no hair. Look at me!

Haven’t you got a wig? , said Jim. What’s a wig?, said the Giant. So Jim explained about a wig while the Giant listened carefully. Get a wig for me, said the Giant. I’ll give you a gold coin.

Jim took the wig home and then tied it on his back and climbed up the beanstalk.

The Giant loved his wig. I look younger said the Giant. He put on some new clothes and smiled to himself in the mirror. ‘Marvellous’,‘wonderful’, he said. I’m happy! I feel like a Giant again and I’m feeling hungry too!

Bring me an axe!’ He took the axe and with one blow chopped the beanstalk down. At that moment, the beanstalk fell but Jim heard something else fall too. It was a piece of paper with something inside. Jim opened the paper and saw a gold coin and on the paper was written: .......
