The HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention

In 2012, if all missed opportunities for HPV vaccination had been eliminated, coverage with ≥1 dose of HPV vaccine could have reached 92.6%

By increasing 3-dose HPV vaccination coverage to 80%, an estimated additional 53,000 cases of cervical cancer could be prevented over the lifetimes of those aged ≤12 years

In 2007, Australia began providing the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine free to girls 12 to 18 in a school-based program. Now researchers have calculated the effect on the incidence of genital warts in women 15 to 27.

The study found that the rate of genital warts in young Australian women decreased by 61 percent, while rates in age and sex groups not covered by the program were unchanged.
