1. OVERVIEW

First business in Algeria was the “Techno-Economic Study” for the Petrochemical industry in Algeria, requested by UNDP and UNIDO in the mid-1960s, soon after independence.

Since then, more than 40 Oil & Gas Projects have been completed. Three (3) projects are on-going.

JGC’s own local engineering company has a staff of more than 330 Algerian staff and very well appreciated by clients.

JGC has been making significant efforts to maintain and reinforce the Algeria-Japan business relationship.

1. Challenges faced by foreign companies conducting business in Algeria:

- Foreign companies are not permitted to establish 100% owned companies. In a joint case with Algerian companies, a maximum 49 percent share is permitted for foreign companies.

- Renewal of liaison office license is currently suspended.

- Difficult and long process to obtain work permits for foreigners
