JFFBEARTM Connections with differing weights are interchangeable

within a given OD. When differing weights or grades are made-up

together:

Make-up Torque:

o The lower make-up torque of the lighter weight/grade

connection should be used.

Connection ID

o Pin higher weight than coupling – Step on pin side of

connection.

o Box higher weight than pin – Step on box side of connection.

o Dimensions per side of the step may be determined with the

rules below. See next page for examples.

JFEBEARTM Mixed connections examples (torque values with API modified):

Example 1: Pin heavier than box, same grade. ID step = 0.031”, applied torque meets lighter

weight.

Example 2: Same weights, different grades. No ID step, applied torque meets lower grade.

Example 3: Box heavier than pin. ID step = 0.042”, different grades, applied torque meets

lighter weight and lower grade.

Note: These interchangeability rules are to be used when running tubing and casing.

When accessory items such as tubing or casing hangers are being ran, it is

recommneded to contact your nearest JFETC office.
