A Message from the JCC’s Executive Director, Beth Goodman

In the coming months, the Jewish Community Center is offering a multitude of ways to engage in some aspect of Jewish life—for you, for your children, for your whole family! No prior experience is necessary to enjoy what we’ve got to offer. Sum-mer day camp, our Teen Program, lively activities for seniors, arts and culture, clubs and classes…there’s something for everyone!

The Jewish Film Festival has found a new home! Yes, the Rialto Cinemas is relocating to the former Sebastopol Cinemas, and the JCC is proud to present our 2012 Jewish Film Festival at this fantastic new location. The films this year could be the best yet and you'll see them in a real movie theater again, with Rialto's famous popcorn, lots of parking, excellent restaurants nearby and an easy drive to it all. Thinking about becoming a Sponsor? Now's the time. Email Ellen for more information at [email protected].

We bet you'll be surprised at all the activities brought to you by the JCC. Among other things, this year we offered a Mah Jongg club, Yiddish Literature classes, Parenting workshops, the Klezmatics concert, the com-munity Yom Hashoah Commemoration, Israel’s Birthday celebration, a countywide Purim Carnival, Seders for seniors at seven locations as well as a Passover cooking class. Mark your calendars for the return of Simcha Sunday on April 7, 2013!

The JCC connects people and creates community – Jewish community. You can discover the inviting array of opportunities to connect Jewishly in a comfortable way whatever your level of commitment – and providing those options for you is what your JCC is all about. But it doesn’t just happen! With your participation and donations, you make it happen by supporting Jewish life in Sonoma County.

Please contribute whatever you can to help JCC fulfill its purpose. You can use the enclosed envelope to make your donation. We do have something for everyone!

P.S. If you are a donor to the JCC at the $180 level and above, you’re invited to our annual Donor Thank You event on Sunday, June 10. This year we’ll use the indoor and outdoor space at the JCC offices where we’ll host ‘A Taste of the JCC’ – wine, appetizers, delicious BBQ and a silent wine auction will be just part of the day. Look for some special guests and surprises too.

Because I consider myself a non-religious Jew, the Jewish

Film Festival gives me the opportunity to check in with

my community in a meaningful way. I love seeing what Jewish life is like

around the world, and I always feel way more in touch and yes, proud of my

heritage after each film I see.~2011 Jewish Film Festival

Don’t miss this great summer night as the Bay Area Jewish community unites at the ballpark. Be proud and thrilled as once again our teens sing the National Anthem before the game. See the flyer on the facing page for all the details!

Camp Chai - Summer Day CampRick Concoff was recent-ly reminded how power-ful a Jewish Day Camp experience for a Jewish child or teen can be. Re-cently he was promoting camp to various religious

schools, and was excited to meet with the current 7th graders who are eligible for our Coun-selor in Training (CIT) program this summer.

Two of the 7th graders cited their 'Trip to Israel' at Camp Chai a number of years ago. They remembered a whole day dedicated to 'visiting Israel' during Camp Chai. The way the counselors creatively made the 'trip' happen still lives as an ex-citing memory. They want to bring that and so much more to the younger children attending this summer. This is the legacy of Camp Chai.

Camp will once again be led by Rick Concoff, Director, Aar-on Selya, Assistant Director and all of our great counselors.

Reserve your space at Camp Chai now for the last two weeks of June. Look for registration in-formation inside this newsletter.

Camp Chai Summer Day Camp 2012 Where Your Community Feels Like Family

Where Kids Create Positive Identities, Friendships & MemoriesCamp Chai has been an important part of the Jewish Community in Sonoma County for over 25

years. It is a wonderful place for children to experience camp in a safe, well-organized program. Many of our counselors and CITs are former campers who have experienced the love of camp and want to share it with others. Our long-time Director, Rick Concoff, is a local educator, youth leader and Jewish advocate who brings years of experience with him.

Camp Chai offers campers the opportunity to bond with other Jewish children and learn about their shared heritage in a fun, active, child-centered atmosphere. The Camp Chai program includes learning and saying daily blessings, expressing gratitude, and looking at how we interact with others in our daily lives. All are welcome regardless of religious observance and affiliation

Session I: June 18-22Session II: June 25-29For campers entering K - 9th gradeCamp is Monday - Friday, 9 am - 3 pmCamp meets at the large gazebo area in Finley ParkCost is $295 per session
