Combustion Chamber
What happens in the combustion chamber?
• A combustor is a component or area of a jet engine where combustion takes place. It is also known as a burner, combustion chamber or flame holder.
• There are 3 types of combustors.• These are: Can, Cannular and Annular.
Can
• Each "can" has its own fuel injector, igniter, liner, and casing
• The air from the compressor is guided into each individual can.
• It is then decelerated and mixed with fuel.
• Finally it is ignited.
Cannular
• Otherwise known as can-annular.• Similar to a can type. • Contains discrete combustion zones contained
in separate liners with their own fuel injectors.• Unlike the can combustor, all the combustion
zones share a common ring casing.
• This is the most common type used.• They do not have separate combustion zones
and simply have a continuous liner and casing in a ring.
Annular
