PASTORAL CHAT My dear readers, This week Brother Samuel Lim’s testimony (at SGH on 29 April) is shared with readers for encouragement and “instruction in righteousness.” Samuel and wife (Christine), and their two children recently returned after being in China for 8½ years. Their testimony of God’s blessing is so heart-warming. Many readers will greatly benefit by following in the footsteps of Mr Samuel Lim’s family. For all who read and follow, the benefits are everlasting – eternal and to the glory of God. Mr Samuel Lim’s testimony is reproduced hereat. “It is Non Negotiable with My God” Testimony by Samuel Lim, on the Grace of God Deuteronomy 6:5-9: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee these day, shall be in thine heart; And thou shalt teach them dili-gently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest, in thine house and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eye. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” In 2003, when I was posted by my company to China, I knew my family would be getting out of our Sunday comfort zone (meaning the spiritual care of the Church). Church Services, etc, in Calvary Pandan BPC are ever ready packaged for us and all we need to do is to attend. But it would not be the same in China. With my son 11 and daughter 15 joining me there, I was fully aware of the chal-lenges facing them as teenagers. The choice was: either the way of the Lord or the way of the world. To me, church attendance was a vital commitment for the children to know the Lord and remain faithful. As a father, the Lord wanted me to talk, and also walk in His ways, as the Bible said whether I lie down or rise up. I had to be consistent, walking the ways of the Lord in my daily life, for the children to follow. It simply means the way of my Lord is non-negotiable. I promised the Lord: although my might is limited and my human abilities small, I will do my best for Him. So with the Lord leading, I gave instructions to my household to follow: 1) The biggest challenge facing us in this generation is called the Twitter age.

If I lose the war with Internet, my children would eventually belong to the world. There would be no more human noises in the house but only computer key-boards clicking. Is that what the Lord wants? No, surely not. So the computer was placed in the main hall, not out of sight in the rooms. By constant reminding (or some say nagging), we told the children of the hidden dangers of the Internet. Our children must be protected. 2) The sound of Prayers and Family Worship must be heard loud and clear eve-ry morning and night (first and last) and no member of the household was al-lowed to miss it. 3) There is no “policeman” in the house to watch over us, but we kept close touch with the Lord. 4) We taught the children to learn to personally speak to the Lord. 5) As parents, we cannot be always around to be responsible for the children’s successes or failures in life. “You children must be responsible. We can only of-fer advice, support, comfort and of course finance. I will be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for you.” 6) To the children, I say, the ways of the Lord must be written clearly in your heart, your studies, aspirations, friendships, and be as the “frontlet of your eyes.” 7) There must be a lot of communication in the house. 8) The Bible must be the first book to be read, consulted, and loved. Thus it must be read over and over again, and what God says is final. Eight years have passed and we are back in Singapore. I thank God for taking care of all of us in His way. I recognize that I am weak, but He is strong. He keeps me from all wrong. My family was rewarded by the Lord, in so many unexpected ways. His showers of blessing keep raining upon us. There are too many examples of praise to the Lord. Egs: full scholarship to a university in USA, being awarded one of the Top 12 Outstanding Youth 2010 in China, the privilege to graduate early (skipping a year), etc. Thank God for continued good health throughout our stay in China, for keeping us safe from the earthquake even though we were so near the epicentre. Finally, this testimony is to acknowledge all glory to God Almighty. What I have done was merely to follow His instruction in Deuteronomy 6:5-9. (End of testi-mony) Praise the Lord! Yours faithfully in Jesus our Lord Dr SH Tow

this morning. May the Lord preserve their health and bestow many blessings up-on them. Please stay behind and join us for tea fellowship to celebrate this Moth-er’s Day.

2. WORDS OF LIFE: The Bible, being the word of God, are words of life that help us to experience God’s blessings as He intended. The more we keep His word in our hearts, the more our life will conform to His plan. We have all expe-rienced God’s Word come alive but with different verses at different times. As we start a new memory verse program, we hope to make it more personal. VERSE OF THE WEEK Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
